Superbot put more time in hyping the game, which generating hype is fine, but not enough time actually making it good. They promised worthwhile 3rd party characters that have close ties to the Playstation's history, and instead we got 3rd party characters that were there just to advertise their then-upcoming or newly released titles, such as the wrong Devil May Cry Dante for his DMC, Big flippin' Daddy (a character most associated with Xbox longer than Playstation) to promote the next Bioshock, MGS Raiden for the sake of the soon to be released Metal Gear Rising, and Heihaichi of Tekken (which would have been perfect considering Tekken's actual history & longevity with Sony, but gee, wonder why they went with specifically the Tekken Tag Tournment 2 Heihachi? Was it to market that newest Tekken?)
Superbot's decision to delay the DLC of Dart from Legend of Dragoon (a character I really wanted) saw that it flat out never happened. After Gravity Kat and that Dead Space 3 guy's DLC, Dart and Abe were next.
Superbot's choices for the roster in general I disliked. Where were the Sony of Japan characters? So few of them made it in. Where was the Easter Egg content? Throw us some vintage bones, here. Some reference to Jumping Flash! and Tomba for us old farts would have been a nice touch. Team ICO didn't get a single ref in any form in the entire game. The roster was supposed to be (as Superbot's Omar Kendall posted on the Playstation blog) a "celebration of the Playstation's history", but was instead a majority of only recent characters and 3rd party marketing "buy our games" fodder.
Finally, the "Super Moves Kill" only approach saw that my group of friends would shelve this game prematurely. That wasn't my biggest hang-up, but it didn't help it's appeal with me.
Superbot made some interesting choices with the direction of the game. I didn't like most of them.
