The Professor's Outcome

just like in the comics.... when he made a deal with that outer space lady behind jeans back:o :down

wtf that's interesting. what deal was that?

I absolutely loved this scene, and it was quite probabyl my favourite scene from the whole film.

99% of the whole scene was perfect in my eyes. The slow, powerful build up of everything, Jean's powers slowly ripping the house from the ground, raising the Professor into the air as the music begins to soar, and everything else begins to run into slow motion, all except for Phoenix, rising from her chair, her hair blowing around her. Amazing.

But yes, the 1% that ruined was indeed Xaxiers flapping face. :/

Thanks wiegeabo, but I can't 'go advanced' for some reason...? now I feel stupid, I forgot about the newest post thing showing up...never post when your dead tired kids.

About the Wolverine past, ya thats true, it could be for the Wolverine movie but at the time I didn't know there was going to be one, so that was the coolest thing for me, and I think it was pretty true to the books.

It seems most people have pretty differing opinions, maybe I just have to watch it again, I don't know I wasn't overly impressed though.

well I changed the name of my initial post but it hasn't changed the title of the thread, I think it would just be best if we just let it die so that it will never pop up again. Mods, if you can delete it that would also be good, thanks

I extend a sincere apology to all who stumbled in here, or caught a glimpse of the title.

personally I would of preffered if X-2 was the X-men vs the Sentinels leading into the Phoenix Saga, maybe Jean Grey saves them from Master Mold exploding instead of Strykers lab exploding.. I dunno but I would of preffered that instead of an X-men movie about Wolverines origins.

It was a pretty pointless scene, IMO. Professor X really never got to do jack in any of the movies, right along with Cyclops.

it certainly was a very powerful scene. its the first time we see The Phoenix at full strength.

i didnt want to see Prof X get killed either. never had. not even in the comic books :(

Because he was killed like 40 min into the movie. If you're going to kill a main character save it until the end of the film.

no way, killing him at the beginning gave the movie purpose.

Yeah, purpose to create another mindless sequal where they get to ressurect somone else.

I was pissed with the way they handled his death after the fact. I know Ratner doesn't do the "emotional" scenes like Singer did, but we should've seen the X-Men dealing with his death a bit more. There should've been a bit more reflection on X, and they should've shown more of Wolverine and Storm struggling with becoming the "leaders" now that the professor is gone.

I wonder how many times the Prof has done this body swapping thing.

I thought they did enough, they showed there emotion.. they had the funeral, they sat around the school mooping for a while.. im glad they didnt dwell on it, who wants to see a bunch of mutants sitting around crying for an hour? the only thing I thought was gonna happen is Magneto showing more emotion towards Charles death.

Although for me, the movie sucked as a whole, the Xavier & Jean battle was good (the music was awesome), as well as Mystique except for the line "I told you so" after killing the guard, Rogue getting off the bus was good too as she saw all the signs opposing the cure, and everything about Magneto (Ian Mckellan) was amazing.

Ian McKellen is just a tremendous actor, I love how he plays Magento.. his dialogue in the movie is top notch, my 2nd favorite is Kelsay Grammer as Beast though.. although I feel Patrick Stewart is the PERFECT Prof. X, I like Beasts character more.. its a lot harder for Kelsay to play beast then for Patrick Stewart to play Prof. X because Stewart is just a natural for the spot.

I don't mean they should show everyone "crying for an hour," but losing the head of the school and X-Men, the man who taught everyone how to control and use their powers is a big deal. I just thought they should've focused a bit on how things were going to run now that he's gone.

I dont think this was a good title...I know the prof dies but people outside the spoilers forum...going to the nonspoilers forum can see this.

Why do people keep calling that scene a "battle" between Jean and Xavier? There was no battle...

Yeah your right. It wasn't much of a battle. Xavier got owned.

He loses the mental battle I guess.

but what I wanted more is to see Jean's mental battle against Phoenix. It seemed like she was only popping up from time to time whenever logan came by to beg to die but never fought the phoenix herself... what happened while she was in that energy caccoon to make her no longer be able to control her manifesting phoenix powers? it kills me that she only ever gets crazy and attacks someone with full phoenix force unprovoked when she kills scott. All the other times, she's just chilling and then someone pisses her off and she kills them...but not with scott though... it just seemed funky why she did that and it's never explored. I understand why she killed the prof. He's a jerk who locked her away for years because he's afraid of her. This isn't like naruto. She didn't do anything to deserve being locked away, not yet anyway.

Xavier's death sequence is fantastic. There are so many small things to notice in that scene, both from the actors (Stewart, Janssen, Jackman AND McKellan), the effects, and just the metaphors involved. I've seen it three times now, and it's a damned powerful scene on the level with anything I've seen from a comic book film.

Yeah, her struggle with Phoenix was almost non-excistent. The only time we really saw that struggle was with Logan in the infirmary. It felt more like Jean being pissed that Xavier messed with her mind rather than a battle between two powerful entities, Jean and Phoenix, for one body.

cassandra nova? anyone think for the next trilogy it kind of makes sense.
after reading this brett ratner interview on comics2film.com

Q: Now, why did you choose to do that?

BR: It's a spoiler, I just wanted people to, you know, it's a wink, it's not. Death isn't relevant in this universe anyway. I just thought, I got the idea when I read the script about the ethics class, where you can put the body, this consciousness of the person into this body. I said, oh, Professor X is such a beloved character, I said maybe he comes back and, there's a whole lot of story, and real hardcore fans will get that there's a whole thing about him having a twin brother that died at birth. You know, there's some crazy backstory **** going on, so is that the brother who's brain dead, grew up?
