The Punisher is too violent for cartoons isn't he?

personaly I always LOVED the Idea of a punisher cartoon on HBO.

He was in Spider-Man, but obviously he always got stopped before he'd kill anyone. Or he'd use rubber bullets, and Microchip was always telling him to use non-lethal force.

his first ever appearance (asm129) he did not kill anyone,and a few other appearance's.

But you're right, I don't think I've read very many Punisher comics where he didn't kill at least one or two people. He'd be very hard to do for kids, without making his character a lot different.

When he isn't killing bad guys in the comics, it's usually when he's guest starring in someone else's comic, someone who prevents him from executing a minor criminal.

But that's not what's funny. The funny thing is the first two responses sound exactly like what we said.

They can do what they did with Spawn a while back. They made an HBO show with swearing, violence, and sex.

They had him on Spiderman the animated series in the early 90s. Of course now I look at him on there and i'm like "Is this some sort of joke?"

It's like IMDB is Bizarro-SHH.

I really think if marvel brought Frank to HBO it would be a cartoon,not live action.

Since the Punisher was inspired by 70's and 80's vigilante action films, why would he need to be animated? It is bad enough that the two previous films screwed up what should have been a no-brainer R-rated action film translation, why would you think going animated would do anything for the character?

Because we could get a Really gritty anything goes type story.

I mean have you ever watched the spawn animated series,I mean they Nailed the character and there was ALOT of violence,sex,and swear words.

I think doing the same thing with Frank would be a safe bet,but that's just me.

I mean honestly I think a live action series t.v show would suck,Kinda like,hmmmmmmm.....I don't know,BLADE!

HBO's track record is a lot more solid than Spike TV, who were the 'masterminds' behind the Blade TV show, weren't they? I mean, these are the guys who brought you 'manswers'. Whooo.

You do make a point,BUT think about it,pretty much every live action superhero t.v show has sucked,immensely.

Blade,Superman(not counting small-ville),Batman,Birds of prey,Witch blade,spider man(if anyone remembers that abomination) The hulk..well that was actually pretty good,but you see my point?

Those are all pretty much super hero shows. Some of those you listed are good, just dated. To do a show on HBO is totally different. Anything is ok. It's action, which works very well on TV. Have you watched anything on HBO? Rome, Band of Brothers, The Sapranos, they all worked great. I don't think The Punisher would have trouble with good stories. If this movie fails it could just be what the character needs... you have endless stories from the comics, and you could easily backstory on things that would be harder to do in a movie, like Born.

I'd be all over any HBO version of Punisher.

well,True anything does go on HBO,there really are no limits but I would like an animated Punisher better...it works in my head lol.

Yeah a mature animated series on HBO like the Spawn series is something I always wanted to see done with the Punisher. Give the art that Leandro Fernandez max series look to it. It would be great if only it would actually be done.

It's certainly better than Lewis Larosa, although I'm not quite sure if I like what he did with Barracuda. Kind of turned him into Jabba the Hutt in some scenes, he's so broad and wide.

I don't like the art of the guy who started the Long, Cold Dark arc (what's his name again?) But I liked how he drew Barracuda.

I remember back in the day when everyone was at first complaining about Parlov's artwork in Barracuda.

I still prefer Leo Fernandez. Hopefully one day he'll return to the series. I think his art work was the most iconic and I also really like how his rendition of Frank looked the most like Tim Bradstreet's.

I have to disagree,I think Lewis Larosa (Aside from Mike Zeck,and Goran Parlov) Is my favorite Punisher artist.

The way he drew Frank was almost pefect.

Leandro Fernandez was the best artist on the max series to me. He's probably my favortite Punisher artist next to Zeck. Lan Medina also did a great job on the Widowmaker story arc. I wouldn't mind if he came back on the book again also.
