The Purge 3

The Purge: Election Year Trailer

I had to close the trailer before it spoiled more than I wanted but this s*** looks good.

So weird that the first movie had Ethan Hawke of all people.

Considering Hawke's career path, is it really that weird? The man's becoming a modern day Christopher Lee/Peter Cushing.

As for this one, it totally looks like they'd originally written the character as someone else and then shoehorned Grillo back into the lead.

I was almost thinking maybe they should have brought back Lena Headey to be the Senator, and reveal she lost her kids during the second film.

Elizabeth Mitchell looks so youthful. She's great.

I still haven't got round to watching the second Purge. The first one was not that impressive though. The family were so unlikeable. Especially the son. It's a shame 'cause the general idea for the films is great imo, but the execution was mediocre.

Hopefully the second and third are better.

You should definitely watch the second one. It's far better than the first, IMO. So glad to have Grillo back. Mitchell is icing on the cake!

Dammit, they brought back Grillo. I have to see this now.

Fantastic trailer. Looks like the best one yet.

Ethan Hawke is a long time close friend Jason Blum of which is why he has starred in multiple Blumhouse Production movies (The Purge, Sinister and Regression).

He's also close with James DeMonaco. He was in the Assault on Precinct 13 remake which DeMonaco wrote and he was also in DeMonaco's directorial debut Staten Island.

First one was awful. I enjoyed the second one. Looking forward to this one.

Actually, they should have aimed for October instead.

I disagree. October is saturated with horror that it could be bogged down. Summer horror might win peoples' favor. No comic book film in sight. Plus it is fitting with the theme of the film. To each their own, though.

While a bit too much of a twist with the neighbors near the end, I actually liked the first Purge movie the best. Something about making bunkers, forts, or armoring the the houses up trying to keep crazy people out that just seemed more involving for me. It felt like the characters were more vulnerable and the sudden twist of the boyfriend trying to off the father was definitely shocking and the neighbors trying to be overly nice to once another for fear of rubbing someone the wrong way just slightly was intriguing. There was a true social underpinning behind everything amplified by a truly outrageous concept.

With that being said, I think the 2nd movie was ok. Frank Grillo was awesome in it and would've made a great Frank Castle. However, for the Purge franchise, I think the main thing the movie franchise needs to avoid is an unstoppable action hero as then the idea of a Purge becomes more of a backdrop to an action movie. The trailer for the 3rd makes me think this will probably be the case but the movie will still probably be worth checking out though.
