Im not exactly sure what his first fight was about, I know it was a job from Bangun but who was it that he killed?

Tbh, I have no idea whom he killed either :woot: But this fight scene is necessary as an introduction to his character and his fighting skill.

And the 2nd fight where Prakoso was killed was suppose to start a war. But couldn't they have achieved that anyways when Bat Boy and Hammer Girl went on a massacre, such a scene could've served the same purpose. So what I'm saying is the character of Prakoso himself just didn't feel all that necessary, especially when we see scenes of his personal life that just pads the runtime.

But BBM and HG needed a reason to attack the Japanese gang ?
His personal life scene serves the purpose so that audience would feel sympathy for him in the 2nd fight. Also gives reason why Bangun wasn't provoked by Uco's words about starting a war with the Goto clan. Bangun said something like "Prakoso doesn't give a damn about other people's business, he only wants money, he only cares about his family"

All in all, I do think this movie has too many characters. The story might fit better as a miniseries.
That said, I love the story and characters, though.

Evans' original cut was 3 hours, afterall. The producers persuaded him to cut down some of the scenes.
Deleted scenes including [BLACKOUT]Rama beating up the politician's son in a night club before he was arrested.[/BLACKOUT]

The thing with the shakey cam is, it didn't hinder the visuals of the action; if anything it served to realistically aid and underpin what was going on without being intrusive nor a distraction.

As for the best fight, it's definitely hard to choose but the kitchen fight had the audience I was with in the edge of our seats, hoping that blade-wielding ****er would get destroyed but Rama Vs the "duo" in the hallway, that fight was just hilariously gruesome and 100% raw badass. I need to see this film again IMMEDIATELY.

I actually agree that Prakoso character and scenes works within the story But it just felt unnecessary since his ultimate purpose in the story [BLACKOUT]was to be used as a pawn by Uco to instigate the gang war.[/BLACKOUT] But such a thing could've been done in similar but more streamlined way.

10 more days until I watch this bad boy. This wait is killing me!

Hang tough! I'll see it on April 9th on a film festival, then it comes to major theaters on April 18th. 8)

The shakey cam was good in some scenes and excessive in others as others have said when hammer girl and baseball boy appear. It carms down from then on (which is the 3rd act) i can understand people saying its annoying because it is. Might even depend where your sitting in the cinema if you notice it alot ( i was at the front) still , i can't wait to see it again.

You guys saying you need to see this again need to chill. I havent seen it once and that sucks haha.

I know its early but you guys think this movie'll be financially successful? I really really hope so because Evans and the cast earned the **** out of it. This mustve been an incredibly hard movie to film and they all deserve success.

First one did $4 million domestic. I'm guessing this will do about $10 million.

Thanks brother. Believe me, there's still a lot of excess and the main character still could've used way more development. The side characters all get more character stuff than him.

 I wonder if they limit the main characters development to maintain a mystique or because the guy is more of a stunt man than an actor.

Do they cut away to another scene during the final fight scene at all? Or does the whole fight happen all at once?

Eh, it's hard to judge a performance in a foreign film. There's nothing to suggest he's wooden or a worse actor than those not involved in the martial arts stuff.

You follow Rama 95% of the way. They do cut to the bad guys at various points.

Rama does feel like background character at times but that's due mostly to the scope of the story. He can only be integrated so much.

I was just wodnering if maybe the guy wasn't actually an actor as such and cast for his fighting skills, he wouldn't be the first in Asian action cinema.

Are we talking about Iko Uwais? Yeah, he's a real martial artist. Rama, Prakoso, Baseball Bat guy, The Assassin are real martial artists.
Hammer Girl isn't, she's just an actress trained for 6 months before shooting.

Yeah I figured they were legit martial artists, I was just curious if the lead guy is actually a trained actor as well or if he was cast mainly for his fighting skills.

The acting in this is top notch so it's not something one has to worry about. Everything comes together so brilliantly and the payoffs come in abundance.

No he wasn't an actor. Before his first martial arts film (and he was the lead in that), he was a driver/messenger for a company and his acting was terrible in his first film. But the director sent him to acting classes and got him an acting coach, so he got better in The Raid: Redemption and especially in this one.

So I think what you said might be true. They limit the main character's development because the guy is more of a martial artist than an actor.
