The Raid

Good to finally see people enjoy action for action, without having to tell everyone that they weren't expecting Shakespeare.

Internet culture has changed to the point that you can't tell anyone you like a film unless it's about more than simple set pieces, stunts and choreography.

Yeah, like I said in the other thread about The Raid, the American remake should just get every DTV martial artist, lock them in a building and let them loose.

It's being released in April 2012 in Indonesia, so I'm hoping around the same time here in North America. This was my favorite film of 2011.

I keep watching the trailer over and over and over again. The stunt work and fight choreography looks mindblowing.

So I heard the Empire film review guy talk about this movie on BBC Film and I checked out the tralier. Looks insane like John Woo gone mad.

I'm so gonna check this movie out.

Yup, This movies look very awesome & xtreme....location in city jakarta, indonesia
& yes iko uwais is great actor....u can see in Merantau Movies too...cool martial action art...

Wished that was a red band clip cause they censored some stuff out.

I can't wait for everyone to see this film.

A friend of mine went to see Haywire and told me she thought it was the future of martial arts/action flicks. I told her "Clearly you haven't seen The Raid yet' ;)

Sony Prebuys Sequel to The Raid
Source: Deadline
February 2, 2012

Gareth Huw Evans' Indonesian martial arts flick The Raid is still over a month away from being released domestically, yet Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has pre-bought the U.S., Latin American and Spanish rights to its sequel, tentatively titled Berandal.

The film's star, martial arts sensation Iko Uwais, will be returning for the second movie, which presumably will follow directly after the events of the movie which won the Midnight Madness Award at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. Production will begin in Jakarta later this year. with a larger budget although the plot is being kept under wraps.

Screen Gems still has plans to do an English language remake of the original Indonesian action film, which follows a SWAT team's raid of a building filled with criminals and killers in order to capture a ruthless crimelord, although no director or cast has been announced as of yet.

The Raid comes out in select cities on March 23, and you can read our review and watch our interview with Gareth Evans from Sundance in which he talked about preparations for the seque

I need to... NEED to see this movie. Looks f***ing awesome.

Anyone else surprised that the director is, uh . . . . white?

I'm pretty certain Iko Uwais has been cast in the new live-action Mortal Kombat film! Hes listed on IMDB plus people have been congradulating him on Twitter and hes been saying thank you. No word on who he'll play but I'm going to guess Liu Kang. If its true, man that's great news!

i'll be honest...it's probably just me...and i'm a huge fan of action flicks. But this film...while it has plenty of action and violence....just seems to lack real heart to me. Like, it's being violent just for the sake of being violent without any real emotion to it.

Hi guys,

Anyone else surprised that the director is, uh . . . . white?

I was surprised in 2008 when learning about him when his 2nd movie, MERANTAU, had its behind-the-scene uploaded to youtube.
Gareth Evans is a Welsh marrying an Indonesian woman.

Unfortunately, it is not true. Iko Uwais hasn't been formally asked.
I, personally, prefer Iko to continue his role in THE RAID sequel (working title: Berandal "The Thug") to play in any hollywood movie.

Gareth still have crazy ideas that yet to be implemented. I still want to watch the car-chase scene he mentioned in Twitter.

While, indeed, the story of THE RAID was simple and it was nothing new, saying the movie was lack real heart without any real emotion was baseless. It was not a crouching-tiger-hidden-dragon material but neither it was snuff material.

Believe me.
I was one of the few lucky guy had a chance of watching it in INAFFF Jakarta, Indonesia.

Imagine you watch DIE HARD or perhaps even closer, EL MARIACHI for the first time.
