Oh my God! The reviews :(

I thought this is going the best RE videogame ever! But can't wait to play it, next week when I got my copy!
well GT, GI and ROTR gave good/ fair reviews (I have to recheck Giant bombs)and they weren't trying to make sure they would be overly harsh.(in the I'm gonna dump on this as much and as hard as I possibly can cause i want the horror the way it used to be) as the others did.

But it's true. It seems over all the dev's weren't sure of them selves on this game, direction wise and story wise and they didn't finish the game mechanic's in certain area's like the tutorial. Which shows the lack of focus that was mentioned and that's a big mistake.

I'm just going to wait until it's cheaper. Hopefully by then there will be patches or something too. They can start by fixing the camera.

A lot of common complaints seem to be (I can only vouch for some of them because of the demo)
-bad camera/camera with a mind of its own
-camera is too zoomed in/god help anyone with a TV that has overscan issues
-more QTEs than ever before/direct control is constantly taken away from the player
-controls are not adequately explained
-campaigns are too different/Frankenstein's monster of a game
-it tries to imitate top tier shooter & action titles but fails to be as good as them/it tries to imitate past RE's horror but fails at that as well/who is this for

On the plus side
-AI for co-op partner is better than previous game
-lots of content
-looks good

The most accurate to your opinion I'm guessing you mean?

No, I would say the most accurate to someone else's opinion. Obviously my opinion, but I thought, since I've played 10 hours of this game, that you know, my opinion might hold at least some weight?

Regarding the GI Review, I'm not talking about score, I never pay attention to the score in a review anyway, I listen to the reviewers words and get their assessment of the game, and the GI review does that most accurately. It points out pretty much all the flaws that pop up in the game but doesn't get carried away with just bashing those mechanics. They point out the pro's and cons in an accessible and non-snarky way.

I also wouldn't entirely disagree with the IGN review, but I haven't played Jake's campaign yet so I don't feel I can have a clear opinion on that review until I've done so. However, I've played the first chapter of Chris's campaign, that takes place across China rooftops and it's nowhere near as terrible as I thought it would be. The shooting mechanics and cover system, that seemed terribly convoluted in the demo, is a lot easier when you've already spent 8 hours easing into them in the Leon campaign, so I ended up having a lot of fun.

I could only play for an hour before my head started to hurt from the narrow FOV, but I think most of the reviews are being way too hard on it. It's sad to see RE become a full blown linear OTT action spectacle but meh, it's not really any worse than other games in the action genre. Well, aside from shoddy shooting mechanics which is mind boggling coz it's the only thing they didn't have to change. My only major gripe is with the QTEs for basic actions. Really, the first thing I did in this game was tap X to drag a body... I f**king hate that nonsense.

I love QTE's, the more the better. Maybe ill enjoy this more than some?

ok so here's Giant bombs Review
that was put up today

Resident Evil 6 (X360) Resident Evil 6 may be the most lavishly produced bad game in history.

if you saw their quick look it was obviously coming to this. Especially when you hear from them that the shooting mechanic's doesn't feel good to them. That's usually a sticking point with them. Among other things

so the ones that you can say were fair in reviews are GT, GI and ROTR and IGN(this time around). They explained them selves and didn't get too picky over one( horror and shooting) (yet it's still under standable in a way) issue and didn't do their review in a overly snarky way (X play was definitely snarky.)

How the heck could things turn up so bad? Granted I wasnt following this game as closely as others leading up to release but I thought this was shaping up to be the best RE in years. I remember the initial excitement when this was first announced and the first bit of info was released. Now it appears to look like the worst title out of all 8 main games (counting 0 and CV). How the heck did that happen?

well it was as Vic and Scott said to some degree if you saw the game and I know you played it. It's cause they were catering to "gear's of war" fans and other games by stealing elements from those others franchises game play. they even tried to the the stomp on heads from "dead space" in the game and that wasn't on the mark. they showed this in giant bombs quick look and that turned them off especially in that video too. They(capcom) lost part (some might say alot) of their identity.

Scott and Vic from EPD.TV/ROTR were nice about it when they pointed this out they said not to cater to those fans their busy with the ones they like, and half, if not most of them aren't likely to move away from that franchise or touch another.

The other problem is the fact that even in trying to copy some thing like the head stomp from DS it just wasn't polished and it hurt the game for others that chose dump on it like giant bomb did on capcom for copying other franchises.

And looking at it if their gonna be copying people like Dead space and "not do it Right" then it's time to hire those other companies you ripped off from to take over your franchise. It only makes sense.

The other problem is alot of parts felt unfinished like the lack of info in the tutorial on the actions you can do with your character. That's it, lack of polish, focus and adding in thing's from other game franchise's they just couldn't pull off or would have if they took the time too but didn't and put it out any way.

I don't mind QTEs in general but I hate it when they're designed for things that would be more engaging if done manually.

That said, if you love QTEs you're gonna have a FANTASTIC time, no doubt about it.

I'm gonna give it a fair shake if they ever put out a FOV patch but for now I'm gonna set it down.

Pretty much. Rebranding established things that people like never really works out well, look at New Coke hahah. But anyway yes, it just feels like too much of an imitation of other popular action games. I feel very disengaged from the action and that's never a good thing.

I forgot to mention that I'm not a fan of the new UI, but I'll see how I feel about it I ever wind up playing more.

So I bought and played a bunch of RE6 today. I like it. It's Resident Evil. It plays like 5 so I don't have a problem with the control scheme. I've only played Leon's campaign, but I enjoy what I've done thus far.

I just played some of the Chris campaign in the demo. Hate it with a passion. Now on to Jake's campaign...

The demo sells the game really badly.

Also, I think the criticism of the QTE's is blOwn out of proportion. I think wiggling the stick to shake off a zombie or tapping A to repeatedly punch an enemy is fine and not lazy at all. Those controls felt totally intuitive to the actions they represented.

That first QTE is a bit silly though, but it's a tutorial so it didn't really phase me, I just took that as the game introducing their method of QTE's

The reviews I've read have been very average (..bad), much more mediocre than any game I've anticipated in a long time. I also saw it for about 40 mins (non demo stuff) while queuing up for another game & wasn't really impressed. Is this the 1st weak (main) RE game? :csad:

Played Jake's demo campaign until I ran out of ammo a couple of times and finally died. The melee attack wasn't going to save me. Leon's campaign was a walk in the park difficulty-wise compared to the other two. This Jake demo was tolerable. I just wish they'd sell me the Leon and Ada campaigns. Absent that it's a wait for the bargain bin. I don't care about RE's story (at all).

That's only shipped. Though I don't think anyone has any doubt it will sell well.

This game is unbelievably intense and awesome, can't believe it got mixed reviews!

My biggest problem is the save system. Why not just save at every checkpoint?! Last night I exited the game to buy skills, and lost an hour of work. They REALLY need to patch that.

It's a LOT better than the Dragon's Dogma demo, that that a disaster. This is actually fun and playable. I played the first chapter of Chris' story as Piers, and had a blast. Just that damned save system...

I played through chapter 1 of Leon's campaign between yesterday and today, and I absolutely love it. It's classic RE with you being able to see what you're actually shooting. They tightened up on the aiming from the demo too, so my shots are pretty accurate. As far as atmosphere it gives what a lot of people asked for. Zombies are back, and the feel is that you're in a really tough spot.

I'm glad other people are enjoying it too, not just me.

I don't see how they can't. Sure it's got it's flaws, but they put in what people asked for. People wanted zombies back so we got them. People kept wanting to go back to Raccoon City, and while we didn't get that we got something incredibly similar. People said that 4 and 5 weren't survival horror like the other ones so we go back to a classic horror scenario where monsters are breathing down your neck in various places. All of Leon's chapter 1 is what many RE fans have been clamoring for since part 4 came out.

I beat Jakes campaign last night. It was exhausting. I was just confused the whole damn time. I follow the RE story pretty closely and I have no idea what the **** this game is all about. Seriously. Nothing make sense.

I'm actually having alot of fun so far, things are different but it doesn't really feel bad, some tense moments so far and I'm enjoying the ride.

To make a comparison of another series that made a transition, I think I had much less trouble with the basic mechanics and shooting in Mass Effect 2 than this game's demo. It was a lot less needlessly complicated.

Content isn't the problem, with those who scored the game lowly. It's pretty much everything else that tries to hold the game together. Controls, camera, bad gameplay additions, QTE's, story and explosions, explosions, explosions.

Still haven't played it myself, but those are the points reviewers agree on. Even reviews that gave the game good scores mention some of these points.
