I feel like every Spider-Man film sits well considering them within their own context. But when you start comparing them things fall apart. Especially when you think of trivial things such as Sony's guidelines and the comics.

This is the MCU Earth 19999 not 616. They pull from all versions of all their characters. Almalgate them so we can get a group experience rather than one path.

I bought the 2000s trilogy on 4K blu-ray to watch on Ps5. It was kind of an impulsive decision but the nostalgia was really getting to me

Just watched TASM2 and find this movie not even close to being as bad as others say.

Is it messy? Yes. Is it bloated and underdeveloped at the same time? Yes.

But damn... This movie has a great idea for story. Acting, cinematography and music are amazing. Lots of elements shot like in a horror movie. I love that some of the scenes are very suspenseful. The goblin was great too, I love the scene when he is flying over Peter and Gwen laughing, plus Hans Zimmer's score... Perfect.

Villains have unique motivations not based on revenge, at least not in the beginning and if you cut all the Rhino stuff and all of those Sinister Six bull**** out of this movie and throw back the deleted scenes that develop the characters even more, it would be a very good movie.

It hit more beats than it missed. A lot of the hate at the time stemmed from people who were understandably upset that Raimi didn't get to finish his story and others who were understandably frustrated that the MCU was still playing the waiting game with their flagship character. On its own merits, in wasn't bad. I'll always contend that it made fewer mistakes than SM3.

I'd say that The ASM 1 is much better than it gets credit for, but ASM 2 while not awful, really isn't that good imo.

I do think alot of the criticisms towards it were valid . It was prime example of Sony throwing everything and the kitchen sink at the expense of the characters and the story in attempt to establish a cinematic universe akin to The MCU.

However, Garfield and Stone's performances are good in both films and make both films stronger.

The take away from those two films will be the Peter and Gwen relationship imo. I think that's what they're going to be remembered for in terms of positives .

There's an interesting little moment in Homecoming that I've always liked: Toomes in prison looking up through the ceiling bars at the seagulls flying above. It's a nice way of contrasting what he was versus what he is now.

Garfield to me is the definitive Spider-Man. I realize I’m in the minority with that.. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tobey and while I think the MCU depiction is the worst, I think Tom is a fantastic actor and great for the role. The direction of the character and choices made by Disney/Marvel is just horrible at times which isn’t Toms fault.

That being said, I wish Andrew would have had some better material to work with. Him and Emma far and way have the best chemistry in the series. It’s debatable as to which style of Peter Parker you like in regards to Tobey Andrew and Tom because It’s all personal taste…what isn’t debatable is their interpretation when the mask goes on, imo. Andrews line delivery and personality just fit the character so much better. He’s just a natural delivering the quips.

If everything goes through as planed and they are all in NWH, assuming the writing and material is up to par, Andrew to me can steal the show as Spider-Man….He’s just more natural at it.

Andrew definitely got a raw deal material wise.

The guy is a great actor , but at that point, Sony only really cared about keeping the Spiderman rights and establishing a cinematic universe ala the MCU.

They had a good actor in the role, but he didn't have the scripts or the studio that could really support him then.

Most accurate portrayal of Spider-Man to date was Josh Keaton's Spectacular. If he was just a few years younger her probably would've killer a college/adult Peter.

I was a little younger than you, I think I was a preteen when the first Spider-Man movie was out and I grew up on the 90s cartoon. So I think I am in agreement with you, CDB will be the definitive Spider-Man portrayal for me, live action or not.

I like Holland as Spider-man. but i think Andew is a little closer to being how id consider Spider-man.

And i grew up with the 90s animated series too. that was the show that got me into the character. i was hooked on the 1st and 2nd series of that show.

his role in Civil War wasn't really a cameo though, he was a major supporting character. But I liked him best in Infinity War, interacting with Tony and the Guardians

No he wasn't. To be a major supporting character he'd have had to be integral to the plot. He had the same amount of screen time as Ant-Man. Even Vision & Black Widow were in the film more.

so maybe not a major supporting character but it was definitely more than a cameo. A cameo is what Stan Lee had in all of the movies.

Same. Thought he had a great fantastic introduction in Civil War and he’s just become more and more useless/dumb/poorly written as time has gone by.

Yeah. He was a good actor, but he always had that darkness to him . It's rumored that Nolan recommended him to be Batman in the early stages of MOS 2. I think he suits that type of role much more than Peter Parker.

I think several actresses could have done about as well as Kirsten as Mary Jane but the only ones I could see doing better are Mena Suvari, maybe Alyson Hannigan.

I remember rooting for Kate Hudson , who was also up for the part.
She played a very Mary Jane like character in Almost Famous in 2000. Lots of charm and charisma .

Mena would also have been a great MJ.

Alicia Witt was rumored to have actually gotten the part, but I think she was considered too tall.

No offense to Jon Watts, but I find the cinematography and the overall visuals of his Spider-Man movies to be a major step down from what we got before.
