The Robin OYL Thread

Yeah, Beechen's gone from having a smudge on an otherwise good run to being irrevocably ****ty. If something's not done to rectify the Cassandra situation by the end of this arc, I'm dropping Robin for the remainder of his run.

Maybe its not Cassandra, maybe its like evil twins or something... riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight..

i just cant believe how ignorant beechen is. he knew that the first story he had to do was 'cassandra gone nuts' so you would atleast think he would do a tiny bit of research, hell even read the last batgirl arc.
its mystifying how lazy beechen was in researching the characters he would have to use, i mean the dude is getting paid to write the story isnt he ?

didnt read the batgirl comics but she was a good character, its just shoddy and lazy the way beechen has done this, i would of had no problem if she had a GOOD REASON to go nuts but batgirl already knew david cain trained others

maybe its a cassandra clone being controlled by the gene-gnome

blame the editors... its the editors job to correct the content... not just spellings, but also characters... the editor on the batbooks is being lazy apparently because now we have 2 character assasainations he should have stopped... (cass & dick)

People don't know yet what happened in the missing year, I keep failing to see why this whole outrage over the character shift as if it was coming out of nowhere when none of us know what happened. Cass knew Cain trained others, Robin didn't thats why he said it out loud. It would have been lazy and poor research on the writer's part if he automatically had Robin know that info.

i still think they're going to link he personality change to the lazarus pit. regardless, yeah, this is poor characterization of her character. i'm willing to wait it out. dc always does this to one character or another and then eventually they ret-con it and find a way to turn them back to their normal selves, just like they're doing with harvey dent.

i'm definitely pissed at the bat-book editors for their sloppy work, though.

I think the point of what Phantom Lantern was saying is that the given reason for Cassandra's murder of Cain is because he trained others and robbed her of what made her unique. That doesn't make any sense given that she's known for over a year already that Cain had trained others but still regarded Cassandra as the best of his "children."

And MY point is that a whole year has gone by where we don't know what happened to her. For all we know a new assassin joined the League and has the power to possess people or change souls with them or something and this could all be a setup to tarnish her in front of her allies. But, I digress; I should know better than try to bring reason to people complaining about what was done to one (if not THE) of their favorite characters. Sorry for the interruption...

We already know what happened to her: she encountered a writer who can't write her for s***.

If it's revealed that it's not really Cassandra doing these things, then I'll relax. Until then, it's obvious that the writers and editors are tarnishing her character to elicit a certain reaction, which I'm happy to oblige them with.

I think what Kain was trying to tell Robin, was that Cassandra and the other girl wasnt the only daughter. That there were actually triplets or something. maybe clones.....

i think the term i am looking for is "grasping at straws"

People just need to stop caring so much, I think. They're comics. You know if sales take a dip, Spider-Man's identity (switch with Cassandra's villanous personality) will be back under wraps so quickly even Peter himself (Cassandra herself) might forget. :o

:p:D

The only difference is Spider-Man is Marvel's flagship character. If something doesn't fly, they just reverse it.

Batgirl is far from DC's flagship character. If something doesn't fly, they bury her, forget about her, and get a new character.

I should really learn to re-read my previous posts.:(

I just read this from Alex Ross' site regarding Batwoman, which I thought had some relevance as to what's going on with Batgirl right now. I mean she already has that dark tendency (remember that one issue where the guy had a device that would drive a person to kill and it only took her a split second?), so the dip in the Lazarus pit may have taken alot out of Cassandra's inhibitions.

"Paul Dini had this idea of putting Barbara Gordon in the Lazarus Pit to revive her…spine, I guess," Ross said. "At least, that's what he would've done in the television show had they continued doing more cartoons, and her spin was broken the way it was. I thought it was a great idea, and we pitched then-Batman editor Denny O'Neil with these drawings of that costume design. The idea of using the red instead of the traditional yellow was meant to invoke the idea that coming from the Lazarus Pit, she was in a way, more compromised as a character, much like they're doing with the Red Hood now. Going into the Lazarus Pit is a metaphorical deal with the devil - you almost lose a bit of yourself. It doesn't allow you to come out without leaving its touch on you. So it was a slight new spin on her look, so it was getting her back in her classic style costume, but adding in this slight coloring difference, which had a reason to be there.

I always thought the effects of the pit wore off eventually. But that's pretty interesting.

Hey, didn't ware off for Talia. Of course she got dunked in, nearly killed, then dunked in again hundreds of times over the corse of a couple of days.

The pit Talia was dipped in was different. Nyssa had fixed the imperfection in Ra's pit so it could now be used more than once. Did Nyssa figure a way to conteract pit madness? And that was one of the most f**ked up things I've read when Nyssa dipped and killed dipped and killed. That's harsh. Way harsh.

Cover to issue #154.

"This looks like a job for SUP....uh...ROBIN!":D Sorry, I just had to say it with the ripping his shirt open.

He looks like a really muscular midget to me. Gleason does not excel at teenaged heroes, methinks.

Isn't Tim 17 or so? Why would he be kidnapped with a bunch of children who look no younger than 12ish?

that old guy with the blonde on his shoulder doesn't look 12.......

I know it's all about style but I really don't like that cover.

The art doesn't seem to suit the character.

Which reminds me... We need Scott McDaniel back on Nightwing pronto.
