Is there any actual confirmation? Looking at her I'd say she'd make a good Felicia Hardy.

Still unsure. She's confirmed to be joining the franchise. No word on which installment or what character she'll be playing.

I think someone mentioned that Gadon herself said she'd be MJ. But idk if there is any truth to that either lol...

I see her more as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat than Mary Jane. I think Shailene Woodley is attractive. Just like Anne Hathaway's Selena Kyle/Catwoman to Michelle Pfeiffer's. Still very acttractive, but different from Pfeiffer's. This pisses me off if this is true.

If what is true? If they recasted her for her looks? They didn't.

Does recasting her in general piss you off?? Gadon is also an attractive and decent actress just like Woodley. Whats the problem?

Honestly she looks more like Felicia Hardy then Mary Jane, I feel like Shailene had far more of a Mary Jane-like appearance about her, attractiveness aside.

She has a great model appearance but I don't get any fun, party girl that lives next door vibes from her. Also she looks much older, while closer to Andrew and Emma's age, I'd say she looks older then both of them.

This kinda surprises me. There was a vocal majority of people who said SW doesn't look like MJ but many who felt she'd play a good MJ despite not looking like her traditionally from the comics.

Unless you are referring to Ultimate Spider-Man... in which case yeah I suppose SW looks somewhat similar to MJ. Otherwise I'd say Gadon looks more like both 616 Felicia Hardy AND Mary Jane Watson than SW does...

Well I'm going to sound really shallow but if its true then i'd be happy. I was never a fan of woodley based on her looks, I haven't seen her in anything so can't comment on her acting.

Same for Sarah Godon, i haven't seen her in anything but wow is she gorgeous!

In any case I highly doubt they've replaced Woodley so soon, I would imagine she is playing another role that might have a cameo in the second to set her up for the third. Betty Brant perhaps?

I'm sure Gadon will be fine just like I was sure Woodley will be. I'm not terribly protective of Woodley as an actress but the comments about her looks, the nasty ones make me sick.

Agreed, I am not familiar with her as an actress and I know that MJ has always been portrayed as a firecracker, a look that she didn't perhaps fit, but she is a pretty young girl and didn't deserve the mean spirited comments from the Hype "studs."

Still waiting to see her in a properly produced photo, but all the set photos of Gwen and Peter have looked great for both films, so I don't know if her MJ likeness is going to improve THAT drastically from what we see now.

Last night, Sarah was at a red carpet event at the Soho House here in Toronto and Entertainment Tonight Canada was covering it and just asked her the question and she just confirmed she was joining the TASM franchise, but didn't mention who she was playing.

I'll watch ET Canada tonight too see if there was anything else she said...

Well when I say this I'm kinda basing it more off personality then actual looks : p
As an artist I've kinda always seen subtle cues to someones personality through their appearance, like the way they carry themselves and the style of their hair, that sort of thing.
When I look at pictures and watch videos of both of these actors, while Shailene might not necessarily look just like a classic Mary Jane I feel like overall she gives off more of a Mary Jane vibe as far as her character goes.
Obviously its very subjective as to whether which actor looks the part or not, but I agree Gadon could play either role.

Just for the record I heard she's a very solid actress who just needs a big break, but I personally haven't seen anything from her. If one of the mods think the title should be changed to "Sarah Gadon IS (Definitely Maybe Possibly) Mary Jane" that would work too. hahaha

I've seen her at TIFF a couple of times, she seems really sweet. I like her, but I'm a little biased. She's a Toronto girl! She went to my school! I've only seen her in one movie, Cosmopolis, I thought she was good. She's kinda David Cronenberg's muse right now. She's currently in pre-production filming her third film with Cronenberg here in Toronto, actual filming starts in a couple of weeks so I highly doubt Webb is secretly filming scenes with her so he can insert her in TASM2. I mean, nothing is impossible, but it's just highly unlikely in light of what Webb said. He just doesn't strike me a *****ey, slimey kind of guy that would do such a thing

Anyway, while there are the statements going around Woodley was cut due to sheduling problems, some say that Webb and co got wind that people didn't like the directon MJ's character was going in, i.e tomboy/ edgy, etc and that they too didn't like the direction so pulled her out of the film and hired Sarah because she supposedly has an 'old school' look to her which might be the direction they want. I cannot remember the article which said, this, but I remember reading it.

I feel like somethings going on, if they hadn't just announced the cutting of MJ's scenes I'd just think this new gal was playing Felicia or something, now I'm not so sure. Maybe after cutting the scenes they just decided to start from scratch and go with someone else. or maybe it's a contractual thing, who knows? I'm sure the beans will be spilled soon enough.

One thing I'm sure of is if Sony is indeed dropping Woodley it certainly isn't because some greasy neckbeards on the internet didn't think she was hot enough.

What I honestly think is happening, my best guess anyway... Is that Woodley's MJ scenes were on the fence. With the addition of ASM3 and 4 release dates (and probably tentative production schedules) being decided upon, Shailene Woodley and her managerial staff were given the choice to opt out of future roles as MJ. Gadon (who may have been the runner-up during casting) will be in a cameo role at the end of ASM2 or mid-credits, in something similar to the "face it tiger" scene. Hence why the movie she is starring in and her official role hasn't been announced.

to go by that theory we have to accept the idea gwen won't die this film, because a cameo from MJ "face it tiger" wouldn't fit in well after a scene where peters gf just died

and even if gwen doesn't die i'm unsure how you could bring MJ in as a cameo without almost feeling like an obvious set up for gwens goodbye, alot more then introducing her early

i don't think webb was ever going to do a love triangle because when you have gwen who everyone pretty much suspects they will kill off, its abit disrespectful to the character, i mean yeah maybe it happened in the comics but to make what happens to gwen tragic you can't do that, when there is MJ it may take some of the tragic factor away for audiences
