The School/College/University Thread

SAT or ACT: which one to take to decide my fate? I'm personally going with the ACTs but I just want to be sure.

Depends, are you wanting to go to school in the mid west or out on the coasts?

The thing is though, it seems like everyone says they miss High School once they're out.

I never, ever miss high school. I didn't have a bad high school experience at all either. It was reasonably pleasant. But my life is so much better and more interesting now. I don't trust people who consider high school the best years of their lives.

LOL! This is pretty relatable for me at times!

Ugh, I remember those days. Being the one who was friends with the cool kids and the weird kids. It was so easy, but it's so much easier in college. There aren't any cliques. Everyone I grew up with essentially became friendly, your friends are your friends. That's what matters. There are no more cliques

This thread just made me realize that this years marked 10 years since I was in college, man that went by fast.

Yeah I have close friends in the popular groups but also close friends in the not-so popular ones. Just means we're that much cooler :o

So how was everyone's first quarter of school?

It's been a not-bad semester. I am happy it is winding to a close, as my final semester will be the best: a video production class and two graphic design ones. Yeah!

Try 4 years of college/university, where professors don't care if you show up or not and everything is on you to get good grades and no one is holding your hand plus the overwhelming specter of choosing a major, paying off school loans.

Trust me enjoy your last year in high school.

All that is part of what I loved about college. Other than the student loan payments, of course.

I don't miss high school. Not at all. I still keep in touch with the friends that matter. I've got no desire to relive high school.

College on the other hand, I miss. I just graduated in May and I already wanna go back.

The majority of my grade school classmates were ripped from the frames of Deliverance. The ten years I spent at Juniata Valley were hell, something I would not wish upon even my worst enemies. I keep in touch with three people and that is it.

Is High School really that bad? I hear people online talking about it as if it's Hell, saying bullying is a big problem and stuff, then there's movies like Perks of Being a Wallflower which has a very negative depiction of it.

Secondary School in the UK isn't overly terrible, but similar. I'm lucky that geeks don't get bullied here, it's actually *wait for it* cool to like things like Game of Thrones and Marvel :wow:

I think the idea of people being bullied just because they like things like Game of Thrones and Marvel is outdated here too. Both those examples, in particular, are far too mainstream to be consider weird to be a fan of. Avengers grossed over a billion ****ing dollars. I think the only reason why the idea of "people into pop culture = automatic outcast" is still being perpetuated is because the people who now write movies and tv shows with "nerd outcast" characters grew up in the time when the things like superheros actually weren't as mainstream. At least back in my high school, if you were an outcast but happened to like superheros, it was a textbook example of correlation over causation. Before the 2000s, a lot less people cared about fantasy and superhero stuff. Now every summer, that's almost all there is in theaters.

Anyway, I finished high school this year, and started my freshman year of college in August. There were some things I miss about high school, and I did have quite a few really good friends, but I wouldn't ever want to go back. It's part of my life I can look back on in a mostly positive way, but can move forward from pretty easily. I ever wouldn't trade a minuscule of my increasing amount of freedoms in college and beyond for a chance to be younger again, even if it meant less responsibilities.

High school is fine, but I don't see how they could possibly be "the best years of your life" when you can't vote, drive, get married, buy a house, or have a child for most of that time.

It's not bad by any means. Geeks don't get bullied for liking Marvel stuff. Even super popular kids like it. You just went by stereotype there lol.

And voting is probably the only thing on that list that doesn't happen :p

But seriously, I don't know anyone who got bullied for liking nerd things. Just... no.

But I do agree with you that I wouldn't trade adulthood for high school. Granted, I wasn't a huge fan of high school (I didn't "hate" it, but I didn't "like" it either).

I see. Just figured given the depiction of High School from guys here and in the media, that it was like some kind of hellhole :oldrazz:

Yeah, that rarely happens anymore.

Nerd culture has seeped into mainstream. Unless you're like some kind of psychotic shut-in about it, you're fine.
