The School/College/University Thread

Is High School really that bad? I hear people online talking about it as if it's Hell, saying bullying is a big problem and stuff, then there's movies like Perks of Being a Wallflower which has a very negative depiction of it.

Well, it varies a LOT. Everyone has to go through it, and naturally, those having a difficult time, are much more likely to talk about it.

Region alone makes a huge difference. Depending on the school system, drugs and stabbings are a much bigger problems than conventional bullying. Or vice versa.

In general, it's a lot like prison. Whenever you force people to spend time in a facility against their will, with people they can't stand, it will bring the worst out of them. Them being teenagers, doesn't help.

Thundercrack85, your last sentence is one of the best descriptions of high school.

I get my masters in December, just in time to be laid off from my job of 8 years. Well, that is assuming I graduate, as the two classes I'm in are fairly kicking my ass. Advanced Archives and Internet Fundamentals. I suck at html so I.F. isnt my cup of tea.

I just hope I'm being overly nervous and will do fine.

We got announcement a few weeks ago that our chain of stores is going out of business. While we may be bought by another company, there is no solid word yet if a purchase has been made. So I may be going from hella busy with work and school to being out of school and unemployed.

Sadly, the market for archivists and librarians is very poor in my area and while there are opportunities elsewhere in the country, I wont have the money to move there.

So, how has everyone's school year been? Can't believe its gone by pretty fast and is almost done.

Try 4 years of college/university, where professors don't care if you show up or not and everything is on you to get good grades and no one is holding your hand plus the overwhelming specter of choosing a major, paying off school loans.

Trust me enjoy your last year in high school.
Grad School > Undergrad >>> High School, in my experience. High school can suck it.

How is this thread not more active?

Anyways, undergrad graduation on Thursday, busy with honors at the moment. No clue what comes after that...Job market is an absolute cluster****.

Sucks for you high schoolers and below. Suckas.

:o

Thanks to schizophrenia and an average IQ it took me 8 years to get my associates from a community college.

But that puts me ahead of the 60% of the adult US population with no college degree, so I ain't even mad.

and high school felt like limbo, just waiting around for your life to begin. My only regret was not getting with this one girl who was practically throwing herself at me.

She had big ole bitties too.

Here's a crazy thought, but can we have some kind of law dictating the price of text books?

I mean, who is running that racket?

I know tuition is out of control, and we can't do anything about that, but these insane text book prices are adding insult to injury.

I personally take an immediate dislike to any professor who assigns a 200 dollar textbook.

Luckily, I've gotten lucky with my professors and textbooks. None of mine this semester required any textbooks unless I want supplemental information.

These textbook companies are a damn scam. You buy one book only for a newer edition to come out the following year. In a related note, according to my university's official code, all professors are legally required to only use the oldest relevant edition of any given textbook.

i am complete my study from t.s.s.m.sen.sec.school, shimla puri, Ludhiana, Punjab.

Congrats, man.

Just 2 more years of high school! I just want to get Junior year over with! :argh:

Went back to college as a mature student. Start 2nd Year in Film & TV Production on Sep 15th.

Only if you're doing something very, very wrong, or if the institution itself is systematically inept, should an undergraduate degree EVER take seven years.

I've had to drop out a few times for personal reasons, not to mention change my major because certain courses were too difficult.

Who cares how long it takes just as long as you reach the finish line?

First year of college started last week for me. I like my professors so far.

One of my professors ended the class by saying "So any questions, comments, or maybe some jokes?"
