The She-rald of Galactus - Julia Garner is the Silver Surfer

My only complaint is, I wish she looked more alien-like in the flashback. I don't know what she looks in the comics before she became a herald, but in that flashback, she looks she came from Earth 828.

We don't need a Norrin Surfer yall. Garner was awesome and the character is already established now. No real reason other than pandering at this point to change it. Surfer was great in this movie

She was a lot better than she sounded in the trailer. Loved her gradually getting her humanity back.

Julia Garner was fine for a stoic CGI character. But that's about all I can say as far as the acting goes. I thought the change to Shalla Ball worked very well thematically. It wasn't just to give a second significant female character in the movie.

Definitely playing with themes of motherhood to contrast her with Sue Storm

I also thought she played well with Johnny. One thing the Marvel movies do is they take the essence of characters and play them in new ways.

The Silver Surfer was certainly the Silver Surfer. Johnny kind of took on an Alicia Masters role to some degree. But it also had echoes of Johnny and Crystal and even Johnny and Medusa. When Medusa was in the Frightful Four, he's the one who chased after her and hesitated so she could escape. There was definitely the "Johnny falls for another pretty girl" thought from the others, but he was recognizing that she wasn't evil. I thought it was played very well and felt true to the characters even when changing things.

She looked pretty normal in the cartoon despite the rest of the planet looking pretty random her and Norrin look pretty human like

She looked like some influencer from insta in that flashback tbh. I'm with that that they at least should have made her look more alien like if just with jewelry or hair color, clothing or something. As I understand it the flashback scene were reshoots right? Also I prefer the look of SS in RoSS the surfer in that one look more unique like a statue instead of humanoid.

I just wish we would have gotten Norrin and maybe her down the line.

I have to give them credit that they seem to be committed to Shalla Ball being the MCU Silver Surfer. Prior to seeing the movie, I had expected them to leave the door open for Norrin down the line.

I am a Norrin Radd guy, but I thought Garner was fantastic here. She was otherworldly but you really saw the humanity of Shalla-Bal behind the Silver and her slowly coming back to that was great. Her voice was awesome, she looked great and had the best action scenes in the movie for me.

I wish they released a solo poster for Silver Surfer and Galactus. I didn't really have a lot of options when choosing what picture of Shalla to use.
