No, I don't have any news...but what do you think will happen if Sex in the City is successful? I know David Chase says he does not want to do it, but as long if HBO chooses to go forward with a film adaptation of The Sopranos, Chase's hands will probably be tied. If Sex in the City is successful, I can see HBO jumping into the theatrical game in a big way, and The Sopranos is their most profitable and logical choice.

The series still has enough regulars alive to go forward with the movie (Tony, Paulie, and Sil are all alive. Sil is in a coma but he could come out). The only major characters who are dead, post-season 6 are Bobby and Christopher. If they really wanted to, they could even set it between seasons so certain characters can still be alive. A semi-prequel.

So what do you guys think? If Sex in the City is a success, will The Sopranos happen? Should it happen?

It's up to David Chase. I doubt HBO would do it without his involvement, and even if they wanted to, I'm sure James Gandolfini and co. wouldn't.

Honestly, it's not necessary. Most of the best storylines have been covered and a ton of the coolest characters are dead.

so there is a slim possiblity the show itself might come back?

I would love a sopranos movie. and please, no blank screens this time.

No, he was talking about for season 6. All actors involved demanded a **** load of cash.

They should have a movie just to give the series a proper ending, christ I haven't been more disatisfied with an ending since Neon Genesis Evangelion.

ah ok. i was confused. so what's the status on this movie. any credibility?

Its a rather popular anime series that was on during the 90s I believe.

well reportedly the owner of the real Bada Bing was told by HBO not to renovate his establishment (after season 6 had ended)

I am embarassed to say Ive never watched The Sopranos. Can someone tell me in one sentence why everyone raves aboutit?

because it was the greatest show on TV:woot:

very dramatic stories, well written, don't know who's gonna go next, enticing and exciting

HBO wouldn't go forward without David Chase. At the same time I don't think a movie is really out of the question. The big issue for me was the deaths of Christopher and Silvio(not dead, but in the finale they more or less hinted he was a goner). I really don't think the show/movie would be the same without those characters. The talk before was having the film take place before there murders, and have the plot built around another event but even that wouldn't work well.

If the movie centered on just Tony I would be fine with that, but you know people would cry to the high heavens because there was not enough violence and blood.:whatever: I think alot of people(myself excluded) would want some big mafioso Godfather film and that's not what would get made.

All an all I think a movie would be a mistake and they should just let the series end where it did.

If Chase is offered enough cash he'll do a movie, wasn't his plan to end the series after season 4 or 5, but HBO offered enough cash so he phoned in a couple more seasons.

Yeah, Gandolfini was really against returning from what I read, most of the other cast was really into though. I just think he wrote himself into a corner now with how he ended it. Sex and the City had some stuff to work with with regards to a film.

GQ article:
According to an interview in the latest GQ magazine, Sopranos creator David Chase probably crushed the dreams of show fans as he told them not to expect a movie based on the series. Show devotees were left dangling with the end of the series' six and a half year run on HBO. There has been rampant speculation that a film adaption would be in the works.

Chase told the magazine, "There is no thought about making a movie now and chances are we will probably not do it. But, at the same time, I'm a writer, and this is how my mind works: I could wake up some morning or James Gandolfini (Sopranos star) could wake up some morning and say 'how about it?' If it was great enough, we might be tempted to do it, but I don't think that's going to happen."

I see that quote translated as "Until HBO forks over enough cash, I don't think it is going to happen."

I see it as "we stretched it to far and now we're out of ideas.":cwink:

I was watching reruns on A&E last night, god I hate that Johnny Cakes storyline....:csad:

Yeah, it was painful to watch. :csad: They could've found a better way to build up tension between Phil and Tony. Still, the scene where Phil steps out of the closet in Vito's motel room in Cold Stones is bad ass. Phil may have been a dick...but goddamn he was bad ass. So old school, not the kinda guy you wanna **** with.

The whole gay thing(not homophobic) was just out of place. I go back and think they wasted like 8-9 episodes on Vito Spatafore.....he was a background player the entire series leading up to the infamous parking lot scene at the construction site. I would have rather those episdoes gone to more interesting characters like Bobby.

That scene is pretty badass....plus Phil did have some hilarious lines during that run....

Yeah, I agree. It was just unneccessary. I mean, Bobby was always there, but the argument can be made that the audience did not even really get to know him until the second half of season 6. Imagine if all the screen time spent on Vito would've been spent on Bobby. Would've made his death (which was the best of the series) that much more effective.
