Homecoming The Spider-Man Skepticism Thread

If anything, they should take notes from Ant-Man, that movie was the perfect example on how to make a movie in the MCU without having to tie it in to a future movie or building up to an Avengers movie.

Exactly, Ant-Man was actually a prime example of what a spiderman film should be. Funny but serious when need be with great acrion.

I just hope they don't take any notes at all from Ant-Man

Indeed, I hope a Spidey solo is vastly superior to Ant-Man. Spidey should have plenty of humor, but never to the point of vapid self-parody.

I've yet to see Ant-Man, so I can't comment.

Just hoping for the solo films of Spidey to continue being self-contained.

Well kevin did say they didn't want it be the end world and a more smaller scale story so we likely see Sm 1 be more similar to antman scope then say avengers.

If I were to put odds on this reboot, I'd say that it's likely to 65% fail and 35% succeed. If Marvel were going at it alone I'd give it a 65-70% success rate. A lot of baggage with Spider-Man and I think the audience are just fatigued and need a break. If Civil War is a good film it will definitely help the cause, but how much? The film needs to be extraordinary but I don't think it will be with Sony's involvement. It would have been MUCH better to give Spidey supporting turns in Avenger's films and slowly build the interest back up, but Sony needs to rush another reboot so they can hold onto the rights and aid their sinking ship.

el pulled off Ant-man out of hell and delivered a great cbm. If Feige takes the reigns of the creative decisions and Sony just nods "yes and "ok we are good. If Sony does what they have been doing the past decade, thinking they know Spider-man better than anyone else (LMAO!) we will have a problem. I pray they are smart enough to see which company has the most consistent track record and understanding of Marvel characters. I really pray.

really i still feel pretty good with spidey at the moment take away sony and the dumb venom news. We know for this film marvel is the ones handling the creative end. So really when we are looking at this from a creative endever its pretty much a ms film just one they are not paying the costs on.

So we got....

  • Two writers who written some terrible movies (with gross humor)
  • The creator of TSSM wasn't even invinted which makes me think that neither Sony or Marvel are aware that TSSM is the best spidey adapation and value it as they should.
  • The current adapations of Spidey are kinda terrible : tasm current run and the USM cartoon so I'm wondering if Marvel are actually the best thing that happened to that reboot.

I really thought they would do their best. But those past weeks made me realize that sure, the movie is going to be good, but is it going to be the best Spidey adapation I hoped it would be ? ...No.

I'm glad you can predict the future so accurately & attended Zendaya's audition

I highly doubt she was cast on her following alone, not to mention they said she won't be the female lead in the first solo film.

You can't answer the question of whether or not it's gonna be the best spidey adaptation you hoped it would be just yet. Wait til the movie actually comes out. It hasn't even started filming yet!

I am a bit worried about the villains. Other than Loki, I find all of Marvels movie villains to be forgettable. I am not worried about the quality of the movie though, I trust Marvel.

Marvel, they can do no wrong, am I right?
If you can't take criticism why going on that thread in the first place?

Yes, that's true her acting must have some weight but did so her popularity and when it comes to acting, it just shouldn't matter.

So we got....

  • An inexperienced director
  • Two writers who written some terrible movies (with gross humor)

  • And now Zendaya. That what I was afraid of, that they would casted an actress based on her popularity rather than her skills.

They did it with Iron Man ( downey wasn't as famous as he was in 80's but Paltrow definitely was), Thor (Hemsworth who with Portman), GotG:Pratt a tv comedian actor with Zoe Saldana, an actress who was the lead in the hightest box office movie ever.

Their male leads are always on point, but the female are so-so (Portman was so boring as Jane). Again, it looks more like popularity contest for the female, idk does marvel hope to attract more female audience like that? I don't know.

I know most of you never critized the MCU (I can already see Webhead2006 trying to take down every of my arguments) "they can go no wrong" but to me, they already prove they could miscast a character, it happens.
And now that they are working with Sony, it's even worse.
Remember the leaked e-mails? "The actress for MJ must have a huge following, maybe collins or moretz?" They didn't even mention their talent as actor, could they act? It's like they didn't even care.

And yeah, they really hit the jackpot with Zendaya. She has millions of followers. Everyone knows her and is now interested in that reboot that so many boycotted before.

I've seen shows and tv movie with Zendaya. Sure she's gorgeous and got some personality but her acting is average.
Everytime I saw her shows/movie it felt like I was watching Zendaya and not the character she played. She always had the same facial expressions and her acting range is limited.

Anyway, before everyone here telling me that she's "a wonderful actress" I'm just saying; I don't rant for the sake or ranting I was so happy when I heard Marvel got the rights back.
I really thought they would do their best. But those past weeks made me realize that sure, the movie is going to be good, but is it going to be the best Spidey adapation I hoped it would be ? ...No.

I agree with all your points, except the jury is still out on Zendaya as I don't know much about her.

The writers really make me nervous. I don't hate the current run on Amazing, but it clearly is not the route you would go with this new MCU Spidey. I really dislike the USM cartoon. And not consulting Weisman is a missed opportunity. I really hope/wish that Feige and Marvel know how highly regarded Spectacular is with the fan community.

At this point, the only thing i'm wary of is Sony's continued wacky ideas, like the separate universe Venom film, complicating things and potentially causing tensions with Marvel in the future. Other than that, the I like what i've seen and heard so far , which to be honest, is very little.

With Marvel handling the creative reigns , i'm really not that concerned. Its basically the Sony side and their desire to exploit the property in as manys ways as possible which I'm wary of.

personally i bet we will not see a separate universe venom film. If this spidey does well its makes far better sense to drop the spin offs to we get at least 2 solo films off the ground and the franchise is back in a stable place. Plus come on a venom film that is not connected or use spidey is so stupid. You loose all the spiderman aspects and what do you have nothing really. When if you play with spidey and the greater mcu you got alot more to play with.

We have a lot more to be skeptical now than just the Vacation writers. This thread is more relevant than ever.
