My bad, yeah you're right. (Although that Spidey is way funnier than Holland thus far) But Carroll sounds like he's never even read Amazing Fantasy #1. I mean, what he's saying misses the entire point of the origin story.

You can do w/e you want at this point even if it doesn't appeal to me. This thread like any other exists because there's enough people with that sentiment.

This movie seems to disregard preexisting characteristics of the cast and just seems to be mixing it up in the name of being different & appealing to kids smfh

Man if homecoming sucks the world man explode. I mean Spider-Man 3, amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 are considerd bad movies already and MCU is suppose to be the saver even though I like Spider-Man 3, amazing Spider-Man 1 and love amazing Spider-Man 2 and find MCU to be overrateid. But man if we get 4 Spider-Man movies in a row not considerd good and even the MCU not changing that in peoples eyes man things are not going to be good. This movie is a big movie to turn around Spider-Man in peoples eyes.

This being the MARVEL STUDIOS headed by Kevin Feige version of Spider-Man, that ridiculously ill-informed speech should have never came out of Eric Carroll's mouth.

Since the movie will definitely follow the Marvel formula "fun, fast paced, light" movie, there's no reason the general is going to be disappointed. I'm certain that, since it's Marvel, "everyone is going to love it". The GA and even critics, have hard time criticizing the MCU. I think the movie is going to disappoint only the ones who are attached to the source material like us t:.

I've thought about this and I think that you're right. This is not going to be a faithful adaptation. This Peter is more childlike, more financially secure, less independent and less burdened by his responsibility. He is different, no denying that. But I don't think that this version is inferior. I don't mind at all that Holland's Parker seems to be generally happier person than 616. Good for him. And it looks like from the trailer that he gets reckless with the boat. He is flawed, that can help make character interesting. And there is plenty of time for Holland's Spidey to grow as a hero and as a person.

And I already consider the character to be very likeable, based on Civil War. He is smart and funny dork, who wants to help people. I want to see more of that in July.

So then the question arises, at what point does he cease to be Peter Benjamin Parker? At what point does he become just some random, tech-savvy dork who loves Iron Man & wearing a Spider-Man costume? Reminds me of another movie:

All of the traits of his character you mentioned make him way less interesting & inferior to his comic counterpart. A 15 year-old kid who is thrown out into the cold hard world with nobody to depend on but himself, burdened by the responsibility to protect his city & constantly has the shadow of his Uncle whom he failed looming over him while also having to balance his normal life & keep his alter-ego a secret from everyone is an infinitely more interesting idea than a 15 year-old kid getting powers & wanting to have fun with them. Considering we've seen the latter story in dozens of comics & children's cartoons. The former is what makes Peter Parker unique from every other teen with superpowers.

The traits they stripped from his character are what made people love the character in the first place. Marvel Studios' Spider-Boy will never be equal to Lee & Ditko's Spider-MAN.

Yes, that is indeed a good question. Comics in this case don't seem to be exactly source material. Instead they seem to be resources that film makers can use. I haven't seen FF (2015), but I have heard that the movie had plenty of problems besides faithfulness to source material.

And I respect your opinion. But again, I find it refreshing that this version of the character seems to be enjoying life while simultaneously being unselfish person looking out for the little guy. It doesn't need to be a constant burden. That seems pretty close to unhealthy.

I agree that huge part of why Spider-Man is so popular, is that he has multitude of problems to deal with. And having a rich friend should take away money issues. But I'm sure that writers can think of plenty of problems for a movie series.

I think you mean AF #15.

I think it's crazy to assume there won't be these moments where Peter does have a heavy head or whatever. Carroll doesn't have final say, nor should he. If you guys are right, I'll be pissed. A dejected Spider-Man is essential at some point in almost every classic Spidey story, but it's crazy to just ASSUME we won't get that.

you can balance the fun/joy of youth with the heavier responsibility stuff.

no reason why it has to be an either or situation.

just because you are a young teen doesn't mean you can't feel the weight of the world on your shoulder, especially after a tragedy such as losing a loved one ( which you feel responsible for ).

nor does that mean you have to be all mopey and gloomy all the time.

I'm currently playing through the game Persona 5.

that follows a group of high school "misfits" challenging corruption and injustice in society.

The main characters are young, but the issues they tackle, both in society and their own personal issues, are quite serious - from teachers/coaches who exploit/prey upon their students to a girl who blamed herself for her mom's death and became a total shutin who has a hard time adjusting to real world socializing to a talking cat who constantly nags you about going to sleep.

Despite all that, the characters still have time to do stuff their age and have fun with each other.

so, it doesn't have to be an either or choice.

Man, I'm getting less enthusiastic about this film as the days go on.

I really don't mind a Spider-Man having fun, but "responsibility" should always come first, and I feel like that core part of Spider-Man is being lost in Homecoming, with the need to appeal to the general public and kids especially with this younger Spidey.

Spider-Man 3 and TASM2 are good examples of an overconfident and fun yet responsible Spider-Man, but a Spider-Man that ends up going through a lot and learning lessons after having 'fun' (Tobey's strained relationship with MJ and Harry, exacerbated by the symbiote, and Peter losing Gwen).

I know we haven't seen the film yet, so we can't say for sure, but Spectacular would have been such a great template to have worked from, as many have said on this thread.

Maybe this will be a heavy head moment? Carroll obviously doesn't understand the character at all. I wish he was not on this movie. Dude reminds me of Avi Arad in terms of how he talks about Spider-Man & his world.

I just don't know about this movie. Nothing I've seen so far has blown me away. Best things this movie has going for it are Michael Keaton and Tom Holland. That's some good casting.

I'm hoping for the best though, Spider-Man is by far my favorite Marvel character.
