Homecoming The Spider-Man Skepticism Thread

The CG looks bad. Especially that shot of Spider-Man reloading his Webshooters. Suit looks like an early PS3 game with low-res textures & mesh on the suit. Doesn't even look like somebody is wearing it in that shot

"Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever Stark says he can"

Saw that on my twitter feed, found it kinda amusing

I feel that Homecoming 2 will be the Spiderman 2 of the MCU and this version of Spidey. It will be back to basics with less pressure and no more forced MCU connections. It will feel more natural.

Aslong as Sony are in a desperate need for a cashcow... yeah there will be plenty of Avengers stuff in the sequel

I am betting Stark is in the sequel too.

That won't fit to the Black Sabbath Iron Man theme tune they'll use for this movie. :o

While you can argue about the details of the changes, Marvel didn't "force" a reboot. That is entirely on Sony: Sony were the ones who screwed up the TASM movies

At least one of the main criticisms of those films seemed to be that they felt too crossover-y and unfocused so they made the next more crossover-y ...

Once the decision was made to cooperate and put Spider-man into the MCU, a reboot was unavoidable. They weren't going to ever stick the TASM Spidey in the MCU, when he wasn't designed to be a part of such *and* his failure was the reason for this whole thing in the first place.

They did portray him as the only hero and, in the first, a controversial one but they didn't really emphasize that and it's not incompatible, especially as a lot of the MCU isn't set in NYC.

So is Aunt May the new love interest for Stark or was that just nothing in Civil war?

They forgot to put this image on the altered international Spider-Man Iron Man poster.

Funny and accurate.

I'm sure they would never make Tony and May date. Flirt? Of course Tony flirts with everyone.Plus, I'm sure big sister May is still grieving Ben.

Didn't Aunt May date Coulson in the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon Marvel/Disney Produced?

She was also a younger version of Aunt May if i remember right.

I always assumed that was the reason they Aunt May younger, so they could give her love interest.

Yes she did. They made her as young as they did (in the cartoon) so she could be more relatable to Peter, i.e. playing video games and such. There's quite a good bit of inspiration coming from that show for Homecoming.

But since Coulson isn't in this, and Stark is playing the mentor figure, Aunt May is probably ripe for dating him.

I know some might have different opinions about this but this movie really has some issues if the costume from the video game look way better than your movie costume.
I think it's my favorite Spider-Man suit of all time. I personally want them to go in this direction in later installments.

Homecoming suit is neat, but became boring after some time.

Does any of that seem in character for Peter Parker though? Maybe when he first got his powers before Ben dies and he learns his lesson, but after that why would he? Bigger question...why make Spider-Man a YouTube vlogger at all? Does it really add to his character?

Yeah, it probably is not what 616 Peter would have done. But I do think that it would be interesting character trait. It's not that far fetched that Peter would enjoy positive feedback and popularity. It could add to the escapism aspect of Spider-Man. Meaning that Peter could take a break from his personal problems by becoming this cool superhero, which would also be wish fulfillment for the audience.

Or, you could at some point flip all that. Imagine that Spidey would start getting hate. People would dissect everything that he did or said. It could be a modern version of the hate that traditionally Spidey has gotten through Bugle.

And it could add an element to Spider-Man that we haven't really seen before: Interactivity with NY on a large scale. Many popular YouTubers use their status very responsibly. They host charities and try to get their values heard. I can imagine Peter trying to teach about responsibility online to his young fanbase.

I see potential for good stories in there. :)

Yes, maybe Sony/Marvel will understand that most of the audience is tired of Tony.:woot:

When the film makes over a billion... no they probably won't understand that.

Although Stark probably doesn't have that much screentime in the movie anyway so the marketing will just make people expect more from him if anything.
