The Spirit

I'd be excited if I thought it was going to bear any resemblance to The Spirit.

Darwyn Cooke should direct this.
I love Darwyn Cooke, and he is doing a great job on the comic book series, but what does he know about the film industry? At least Miller knows how it all works, and he knew Eisner best. Read Eisner/Miller, an interview, it shows how close they are.

According to Ain't It Cool, Scarlett Johansson's been cast as the female lead.

Scarlett Johansson will soon materialize as a femme fatale in Will Eisner's The Spirit, being directed by Frank Miller for Odd Lot Entertainment and Lionsgate.

For "Spirit," Miller's adaptation of the classic Eisner film noir comic strip series, Johansson is in final talks to play a dangerous beauty named Silk N. Floss. Eisner's strip was known for its women with dangerous curves, and Miller is intent on keeping that tradition. Floss is a sexy and intelligent secretary with a vindictive instinct that makes her the perfect accomplice to the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), an evil mastermind.

Gabriel Macht is playing the title character, a detective who fakes his own death in order to fight crime in Central City as the masked man known as the Spirit.

Production is scheduled to start in October, with the film scheduled to be released in 2009.

Hmmm, I can totally see Scarlett as a classic Will Eisner femme fatale...

I can't believe there isn't a thread or a BOARD for this. Is The Spirit not a superhero? A comicbook hero? The movie is in pre-production already, but no board or thread in sight... Until now. This is my first thread btw. Now let's discuss all things Spirit. Frank Miller is attached to write and direct the film adaptation(yes, straight from the old reliable - Wikipedia), and starring Gabriel Macht as the title character. Samuel L. Jackson is the villain Octopus.

I guess they sort of look similar if you were to turn him into a pirate :(

This pic is enough to get me hooked.

Needs the eyebrows toned down for that hair but yeah so great looking.

This movie sounds interesting. Never read the comic book before. I might take a look at it one day. Is it violent like the Sin City stuff?

I'm also wondering how come this doesn't have it's own forum?

I hope it's not gonna be too Miller-fied, I do like Miller's stuff, but this isn't his work to mess with. The poster has me worried about what he'll do, considering this is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT comic books of all time, it deserves respect.

Hopefully this will be R rated, for nudity's sake.

Come on Scarlett, get off your high horse and show me your boobs already.

Does the Spirit movie have its own forum yet?
I mean they have an actor picked for the Spirit, they have Sam Jackson as the villian, they have Scarlet Johansson as his Jackson's secretary.
If it doesn't already, it should.

Yeah, i'd say production on this movie is far enough along that it should get it's own board. Some movies have gotten their own boards here at the hype even before they had a single role cast.

Is this a genuine poster? Or the work of a fan?
It's a genuine poster. Frank Miller did it. :o
And I agree with someone who hoped this doesn't go too Millerish. The Spirit is a classic, it shouldn't be tampered with.

The Spirit has inspired EVERY SINGLE comic since it was released! It was the first to use the contemporary means of story telling which is now used in EVERY SINGLE comic.
