The Stephen King Thread - Part 1

You'll burn through it in a hurry. It's damn good.
I have heard great things about it. I saw the movie when i was really young, but i remember nothing from it lol. I currently have Pet Sematary, The Stand, IT, and A Game of Thrones to choose from as my next book. I'm debating which one i should start first.

The movie is **** compared to the book. Absolute ****.

I just started IT. Thanks for the advice guys :) This is my 3rd straight Stephen King novel. First 'Salem's Lot, then Carrie. Now IT

It's a pretty risky project. I figure if it gets done it'll end up on HBO or Showtime. It'd work perfect with the Game of Thrones treatment.

The abandoned it for the right reasons though...they were worried that three R-rated big budget movies wouldn't turn a profit. So they were going to keep the books unedited in their translation to the big screen.

How would you want to see the taheen and can-toi portrayed? CGI, prosthetics and costumes, motion capture, or muppetry?

Does any one own The colorado Kid? Its really expensive on amazon im guessing im going to have to hunt for it in some used books stores. Is there a reason its so expensive?
Also im currently on the third book of the Dark Tower series and I thought it ended after the seventh book. Theres an eighth coming out is there a way to tell me with out spoiling the story why another is coming out or was the ending of the seventh just crazy?

Got it a dollar store for a dollar, it's in the Hard Case Crime imprint, isn't it? They sell those at Dollar Generals for a dollar all the time. Well, I think it's a 1.25 now...haven't read it yet. Now I feel bad that I have a copy and someone else really wants to read it.

If you're willing to pay 4.50 bucks for it (no shipping costs on this site), here it is used (good condition) on Better World Books:

I buy stuff from them when I can't find it at the used book store and just gotta read it. I try to get hardcover stuff to justify spending 4 bucks on it, though (as that is their base price). Got most of my Guy Gavriel Kay novels there.

You know what's another great place to get Stephen King books? Goodwill. They're only a dollar there. He's such a widely printed author there's always a copy of his big ones at any Goodwill. The Stand, Pet Sematary, Misery, etc.

I found the book the next day after that post at a used book store for like 2 bucks but I will have to use that website.

I never thought I'd say this but I'd rather have Javier Bardem than Crowe. Honestly their top choices make me doubt their creative vision of the books. I'd still love to see it though...

Just read Under the Dome. Damn good book. Like he says in the afterword, it really is pedal to the metal the whole way through. Incredibly engaging as usual. I'm off to restart the Dark Tower series, I guess, he really makes me want to read more of his ****. Anybody know if his Under the Dome stuff is supposed to be part of his DT world as per most of his work?

Nothing I've heard about Under the Dome even vaguely makes me think it's related to the Dark Tower...full disclosure, though, I read the Dark Tower series without even reading most of the other books he has written. Well, I read the Stand and watched the miniseries.

Read Pet Semetary last week. It was pretty good. It features several different reflections on the nature of death, some very poignant, other very disconcerting.

So what are some of your favorite Stephen King novels?

The Stand, of course. I really loved Dead Zone. Salem's Lot is a great vampire story. There are still a decent amount of his novels that I haven't read yet but those are, so far, my top three.

The first four Dark Tower books, The Eyes of the Dragon, the Bachman Books, The Stand, The Plant.

Dark Tower series are my favorite books ever.Salems lot Running man was short but very well done.I also read one about this kid who shot up his school that was good.Cannot remember name of it.I read another way back in high school about a walking contest if you stop you get killed.Cant remember the name of that one but it was brilliant.

I believe the first one was called Rage. It's been so long, I could be wrong about that. But I know that the other book you mentioned was called The Long Walk.

Yes, the Long Walk. That's another one that I really enjoyed a lot. That book is so freakin' good. If anyone wants to dig into the Bachman books start with that one...immediately. :cwink:

The Long Walk is friggin amazing. Frank Darabont has been flirting with a film adaptation of it for years. If he ever gets around to it it'll be crazy good.
