The Stupidest things In comics

Wholesome Gwen Stacy not only cheats on the love of her life Peter Parker, but in the process, loses her viginity to her friend's dad...just because. Oh yeah, that spawned a couple of mutant twins who grew to look 20 years old in about 5 years.

Spider-Man's dormant powers manifest themselves after a life threatening expirience. Being buried alive, trapped under tons of machinery, shot at,beaten, drugged and nearly murdered over the course of 40 wasn't enough to trigger it. Being "killed" by a cross between the Hulk and Count Chocula did though.

Superboy punches comic book history stuff in and out of existance.
1)I really rrrreeeally hope that one gets retconned out of existance. There are no words for my feelings towards that.

2)Has Spider-man actually been killed before? No. I find that infinitely more stressful.

3)I liked this, actually. Superboy is after all right outside the walls of existance (You know how DC just loves to make everything so literal). He's probably been punching at for quite some time now. Hell of a work out...If there's anyone that could actually rupture the walls of reality. It's him...Now the Hulk punching through time...

I think having alot of Spider clones running around was and still is stupid.

A symaphetic Bruce Wayne adopting an adolescent who stuffered a simular tradgedy that traumatized him in his youth... and dresses him like a fairy to fight mental institution escapees at night.

Reed Richards the smartest man on earth turns his best friend into a walking, talking orange chimney.

Wolverine being able to get blown up...and two minutes later get...beter :-(

Count Chocula? Great now every time I go shopping and head to get cereal I'm gonna start giggling with the picture of a hulk size count chocula beating up spider-man...

1) I can't even understand why someone thought that was a good idea have sweet innocent Gwen Stacy, who was killed year ago in a very as and touching story idea, to be revealed to have had an affair with Peter's greatest enemy. WHY?
They will probably go back and reveale that it was all a scheme by Norman Osborne, another way to torture Peter mentally.

2) What was Spider-Man's dormant power?

3) Robin was originally created as a marketing gimmick to get young readers. They made Batman have a nine year old sidekick so young readers would identify with him. And appearently it worked becuase sales of Batman were higher after Robin was introduced.
But since he was already created, and they couldn't just explain him away, I like what they have done with him.

I think being nearly killed...alot, is pretty stressful.

I understand the "real life" reason but the comic book reason is tough to deal with.

As for the dormant powers, check out the Other storyline from earlier this year on wikipedia or something.

These aren't recent, but they've really stuck in my mind:

Mutants don't get AIDS. WTF!!!!!

The extinction gene. How the heck is it supposed to work? And how the heck did Hank identify it? I'm not a biologist so I could be wrong about this, but don't scientists have to, um, see the effects of a gene in order to identify it? Like: A fruit fly has gene R so it has red eyes; if it doesn't have gene R it has white eyes. Therefore gene R causes red eyes.

Yeah but I don't think it was the stress that caused the change. It was him dying and shedding his skin, only to come back even more powerful than before.

I like stuff like this because it reminds me of the days of Man-Spider. Good sci-fi stuff.

No not really.

Hmmm,let's see:

DC's multiverse/multiple earth mumbojumbo supercrazyness

Giving Bendis 2 Avengers titles

The fact that Roy Thomas' All Star Squadron has never been collected

House of M

Ungodly amount of tie-ins

Wolverine Origins

Artist changes during storyarcs

The "SHIELD is evil" plot dragging through the MU which we're supposed to be intruiged by

Daniel Way

Apocalypse

Killing off Hal Jordan and Barry Allen in favor of "cooler" versions, can't **** with the classics

So I went to wikipedia, here are the powers: night vision, ability to carry lots of weight on his back, ability to feel vibrations through his webbing, stingers that extend from his forarms, and organic webshooters.
(Correct me if I'm wrong or leave one out)

Also I agree, Robin's creation makes no sense in the "real world" or in the comics other than to get young readers. There is no reason for Robin to be there, there is NO WAY that Bruce Wayne would put a young child's or anyone's life at risk in his war on crime.
But like I said, since he is there its nice what they have done with him. Making him, Nightwing, Batgirl, and a few others like Huntress, into Batman's surregate family. Batman has created a family for himself without meaning to.

I don't really like Apocalypse either, he is intersting but then they went to far with him. Maybe if he wasn't wearing alien robot armor or if he didn't do time travelling or was less powerfull.

So is Wolverine Origins really bad?

Agreed on all accounts!

I'm not fully sure on his powers either as I haven't read it myself, but I remember someone saying he could also tell what spider species any spider is, and talk to them in a way. Also had increases in strength, agility, spider-sense and so on, and essentially took a step more towards being part spider. I could be wrong on that.

As for Wolverine Origins, personally I like it. I think the first issue did a good job of introducing the characters and also did a good job with the setting. Also the side characters took a step up making you think someone else was Wolverine and it ended up being the one you didn't expect. I've only read up to issue 5 so far tho (have 6 and 7 but have been busy and haven't read them yet).

Yeah, all the stuff you listed is not as bad as bringing Hal back. I highlighted this part because it was stupid, actually by far the stupidest statement in this thread.

1) Wally is and always will be a lot cooler than Barry. Kyle, is ten times the character Hal because unlike Hal, Kyle actually has substance.

2) Barry and Hal aren't classics, that goes to Mother****ign Alan Scott and gangsta ass Jay Garrick.
