The Superhero Cinematic Civil War of Tomorrow Thread - Part 62

Why the **** would ANYONE cast this woman as Storm? She just doesn't fit at all.

20 mins into this Captain America Director’s cut and, no joke; this film is…fascinating so far. I’ve never seen the original, so this is my first exposure to Albert Pyun’s movie and its…fascinating. This does not feel like a superhero movie. It feels like one of those early 90s B-movie suspense thrillers that you’d catch on cable at 10pm at night. And I love those kind of movies oh so much.

So what I’m saying is: there’a a decent chance this ends up being my favorite cbm of 2025. Stay tuned. :funny:

Above picture could have been any of the covers of Batman from around 1950 that my dad had. Including a classic shocked Robin lol.

They slashed the budget last minute, and I saw a quote where Pyun said he knew he didn't have a movie here in regards to action, so to counter that he wanted to focus on character. This cut much more showcases that philosophy

Ok full thoughts on Cap 1990 Director's Cut. I actually...really genuinely liked this y'all. Now is it "good?" Ummm...not really but its a very sincere effort with what little budget Albert Pyun had. The movie is a vibe though, its moody and atmospheric and it doesnt feel like a superhero movie. The cinematography is moody and the score complements it well. There's no big triumphant orchestral score swelling throughout, instead it has a moody, foreboding synth score, the kind that you found in a lot of those late 80's early 90's R-rated thrillers.

I never saw the original "theatrical" cut (i dont think it was ever widely released right?) so I'm not sure how different the original is but I found this to be a solid cozy watch. Although, i have to say, poor Matt Salinger, the guy cant act to save his life and you can tell Pyun was directing around Salinger in the same way that Patty Jenkins directed around Gal Gadot. The man just has these hilarious perpetual blank stares where you can tell he has no idea what to do or how to emote properly.

But all in all, I had a good time with this. I kind of miss this era of Marvel in a way where they really had no idea what they were doing and were willing to take weird risks with their characters. I'm glad this got released. This maybe could have become a cult classic had this been properly released back in the day.

You can find the OG version easy enough on YT. I have it on Blu Ray. Shout did a release for it a while back. I think you can buy that version on Prime also

Londrgren’s Punisher isnt horrible but i dont remember it being very memorable.

I so wish there was a way to properly restore Corman’s F4 and George Lucas it up with some added effects and music and stuff. I would buy the Hell out of that.

At this point, I don't see why they haven't. People would buy an official release of it. Unless Avi is correct about burning it, I think it's just letting something that could make some money sit there. Not a billion dollars or anything, but it's something they can have streaming on D+ or Tubi on occasion or whatever and let Shout or Arrow do a Blu Ray for.

Okay, how are all of you guys watching the Captain America: Director’s Cut? I looked online anywhere I could think of and couldn’t find it and I’m starting to feel like a crazy person. :zany:

Sources tell Nexus Point News that makeup and prosthetics will be used for the film’s antagonist. In addition, actors with a strong build and stature are being looked at for the role. The makeup and prosthetic portion, heavily hints at the character being Brainiac, known for his green skin and technological enhancements. Another character, heavily speculated by fans to be the villain is Mongul, whom the casting description could be hinting at as well. Mongul is particularly known for his size and the makeup could be used to recreate his yellow skin.
