We can move the goal posts all we want on the performance of Cruella, but plenty of other day and date content performed better than it did in that era.
Move the goal posts? Are you for real, man? The pandemic times OBVIOUSLY come with a ton of caveats for a ton of different films, especially because certain demographics behaved different than others during those times (Families and women were way more cautious with going to the theater, which was the demographic for Cruella). That movie having strong holds and doing 200 million dollars + in that period was huge.

Like I said, Silver Surfer is my fav comic book character, and Galactus is one of my favourite villains, so I’m down.

Don’t screw this up, Marvel.

Oooo we're getting Galactus so soon.
I just saw this. So in the movie, we are saying Shalla-Ball is the Silver Surfer? I wonder what this means for Galactus and Surfer moving forward since there are rumors of this being an alternate universe. We will see I guess lol! But this change will def...create more work for me here I am sure lol

Not every movie in the pandemic area can be called a success simply cause the pandemic happened. Other movies still produced better numbers and more interest in the day/date model.

It's a case by case basis because not every pandemic month is the same and not every demographic behaved the same way during the pandemic and also certain films are just different than others. The ways in which the pandemic and day-and-date releases ****ed up consumer behavior during that time is way more complicated than just doing blanket statements like the ones you're doing.

I am not making blanket statements. I am just not accepting excuses for every single movie. At a certain point, you have to look over the data of that entire span and let that tell the story. The story is Cruella didn't perform as well as many other day and date releases.

This isn't about fairness, remember

They're not excuses. They are actual facts lol. It is a fact that women and families weren't going to the theaters during the pandemic, and it is also a fact Cruella had extremely good holds despite that and having a day-and-date release.

All we have to go on for Cruella is maybe it would have done XYZ. We don't have tangible grosses. Nothing concrete that shows Gillespie here makes potential billion dollar movies that warrant an investment in him over anyone else. That's the point. We can make all the excuses we want on Cruella doing what it did, but it also doesn't prove anything about the man's franchise earning potential. Which isn't the argument that he is more qualified because he made 1 blockbuster? One that can really only be argued in hypotheticals cause of the pandemic. That's the point. It isn't a boost to his resume

This casting pretty much cements and lends credence to the ongoing rumor that this version of the Fantastic Four lives in another universe separate from the main 616 universe.

Lol these Supergirl takes are astounding. Just going for broke with the overreactions.

Vying for Bryce Dallas Howard over Gillepsie when she's never even directed a film is crazy to me.

Regarding Joker 2… I’m in the camp that liked the first one for the most part, but I didn’t want a sequel. Not because it could complicate any plans WB has for the Batman universe or whatever, but because it felt like an interesting character study that didn’t need a follow-up. But of course, it made $1 billion so WB had to do it. Gaga’s involvement could be interesting but I still wish she would have picked a different comic book character to play. I’m sure she won’t just do a repeat of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn but I still would have rather seen Gaga play a character who hadn’t already been taken on (and played to near perfection, IMO). I’m sure I’ll see the film and maybe a really good trailer will make me excited about it but for right now, I’m just kind of “meh” on another Joker movie. Anyone else feel like this?
I'm torn on it. I enjoyed the first a lot, but I also feel like that particular version of the Joker is so different that it thrived on its ambiguity. Joker 2, while I'm looking forward to it, is gonna be a musical with A LOT of songs. I don't know how well it'll be received by fans, and especially, the general audience. Gaga likely won't top Robbies portrayal for me either, even though I'm sure she'll be good.

That being said, the Joker is my favorite fictional villain of all time. So I obviously am excited to see it, and I think the first trailer will give me a feeling of what to expect.
