Not in this thread but it's been brought up in the cap forum. Unfortunately it's a merchandise thing. Even if a movie get's delayed the toy companies still need to push out the merchandise they have. It's why I think the MCU lego sets that have been released in the last few years have been primarily based on older movies.

Toy companies I get since that's their whole thing. I seem to remember certain Marvel Legends figures coming out well before the release of some MCU movies thanks to the Covid related delays. But for Happy Meal toys I can't imagine it being too much of an ask for Disney to have McDonald's withhold marketing for a movie that's still a year away by placating them with older toys that they could give out instead. McDonald's used to do that all the time back in the day whenever they'd run out of popular Happy Meal toys. It's like they always had an emergency stock of Hot Wheels and Beanie Babies.

McDonalds schedules this stuff well in advance, so if they delay the stock, there isn't anything to fill that void unless they try and use old stock of Happy Meal toys. So it isn't that logistically simple

I remember the ones that were the toughest to find weren't even from McDonald's at all:



They were so popular that they resorted to giving out Lion King trading cards because they couldn't meet demand. I think I was only able to get Ed, Mufasa and Scar.

I had every last one of those MMPR Movie toys. BanDai and Haim Saban really got all of our parents’ coins by repainting the same toys that we had before. Wild.

The opening of BvS taught me that putting the word “the” in front of Superman makes him really cool. And really dangerous.

Nah for real, the only thing that really pisses me off besides black leather, is when CBMs don’t use codenames.

It depends on the context for me. It's one of those things that looks better on paper than when actually said out loud.

In the X-Men movies I find it interesting that the X-Men usually use their names as opposed to their codenames when addressing each other but Magneto pretty much only addresses people by their mutant codenames (i.e., he only ever addresses Logan as "Wolverine" and his whole conversation with Pyro "What's your real name, John?").

In the MCU they're all so informal when they address each other that it comes off as weird if they ever use superhero names when talking to each other with the exception of "Cap" but even that's informal. In that universe everyone knows who they are anyway so it doesn't matter if some civilian hears one of them call Iron Man "Tony" or "Stark".

What’s your thoughts on this movie ten years later?

It's still one of the top and most underrated superhero films for me.

I said it the other day but out of the mainline X-Men movies DOFP is second only to First Class for me (X2 is a not too distant third place). It's got some great moments and it acts as a worthy finale to the original movies and a solid follow up to First Class.


Now this I can't really argue with. Of the mainline X-Men movies not counting any of the spinoffs, the only one that really stands out to me as far as action sequences is X2 and the opening Nightcrawler White House scene is a big reason for that. The other movies had some interesting sequences here and there, but it was usually few and far between like the fight choreography in the first movie, the Golden Gate bridge scene in The Last Stand, Magneto lifting the sub in First Class and the "Time in a Bottle" scene in DOFP if that counts. When it comes to action in the overall franchise, both Deadpool movies and The Wolverine stand out a lot more.

X2 for nostalgia and DOFP are my favourites. First Class decent. Even though we got quite a few good (very good in DOFP’s case) films from Fox amongst the not so good, none were great overall X-Men films that took advantage of what makes a varied bunch of interesting characters feel like family. They still managed to make good films focusing on Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto and Mystique but missed much of what made X-Men popular in comics in the first place.

DOFP is a great movie because of what McAvoy and Fassbender brought to the table. They really both hit their strides as Xavier and Magnus, but it’s still yet another movie where Logan is the centerpiece and where most of the X-Men are just used as visual effects.

Still no development for Storm and hardly any lines, Rogue is still a helpless victim (with her role being cut), it’s just why I say we have still yet to have a great X-Men movie where we see and know them as a team and their dynamics.

But the Sentinels were scary as hell and Peter Dinklage did an amazing job.

Can’t wait for her to rise from Mt Wundagore and meet her real father.

Exactly. Top quality film which I love and regard as the peak from Fox, but not top quality adaptation of X-Men that uses all the strengths of the source material. X-Men 97 is at least making a big effort on that front.

DOFP is really good. I still have First Class just a little bit higher because it doesn't have as much bloat and it comes across as more stylish and better directed to me, but DOFP is definitely right up there. Also, it kind of annoyed me how DOFP fridged most of the FC cast. As I mentioned a few days ago though, the Theatrical Cut is the superior version to the Rogue Cut.

That’s what I’m saying bruv.

They took the bare bones of the X-Men mythos, and IMO made a bunch of elseworld stories in the movies. Making Xavier and Mystique family, letting Havok, Mystique and a bunch of other random choices be the original First Class… that’s like doing a Batman movie, but starting out with Barbara Gordon as Robin and then having Jason Todd be Nightwing.

Never understood why it was okay for Fox to take so many liberties with the source material. It was too jarring for me.

So yeah FC, DOFP are good movies, but good X-Men movies?

When the trailer finally drops it’s going to be an exciting but also slightly nervous time. So much riding on this film.
