The Superman theme

well whos to say that end credits song would have been the main thing louis create for the finale. i am sure it would have been something new and exciting.

Do you think we'll ever hear the Superman theme in Smallville? There's a fixation on all things visual - the suit, the cape, the 'S', etc - but let's not forget that the John Williams score for the 1978 movie (which was subsequently used in all sequels, and also reworked for the 2006 Superman Returns) is a hugely recognisable piece of music which is as symbolic to Superman as his suit is.

I'm not sure of the legalities of it all, but I for one would have hairs standing on my neck if the Smallville series finale even had the first 20-30 secs of the theme, perhaps as Welling is ripping the shirt open.

Perfect for the finale scenes, very glad they were allowed to use it.

So much of this show, especially towards the end and in the finale, was about Clark/Superman as a beacon of light and hope, and the Williams theme just screams that. You hear it, and who doesn't think "The good guy is here"? And they way they used it in the final moments, when it really showed us that Superman has arrived, was perfect.

That was a big coup for the show, considering they caught hell for sneaking parts of the Krypton theme into Rosetta back in 2003.

My guess is that they were able to use it because Snyder/Nolan aren't going to in the new movie.

Someone posted recently that the Williams theme should be THE Superman music. Just like James Bond always get the famous 007 music, no matter how many changes or incarnations the films and character himself go through.

I would tend to agree. The Williams theme is now almost synonymous with Superman; it's immediately identifiable, and on top of that, it has that epic quality that other themes and tunes just can't match. It's hard to imagine Man Of Steel coming out and not hearing that theme.

I get its classic. But come on future directors/music composers shouldn't be forced to use things when tone/feel may be totally different. Plus there is plently of great composers out there today. Given the time could make something just as unique and special.

John Ottman changed the Williams theme to fit him...the next compser can do the same. It should be the universal Superman theme like Bond has his univeral theme

to each their own I say...but I don't believe you can write a better theme for Superman...it's impossible. Yeah I said it...IMPOSSIBLE!!!
