The Supporting Cast

Saw that news about Voight this morning...very cool to hear. could that be the reason why they are delaying the cast announcements? maybe they are trying to work things out w/ Voight so he can have a part.
now the question remains...which part? Mephisto? Barton Blaze or even Crash Simpson? need ...casting news...soon.......arggggh! heh

also came across this small blurb from this VFX school site, seems one of their alumni will be working on Ghost Rider:
http://www.gnomon3d.com/newsletter_120704.html

" Clint Reagan has also made the long plane trip “down under” to work doing previs on Ghost Rider at Halon Entertainment"

for those that dont know "previs" is short for "previsualization"....animation/drawing that shows the shot movements for a given scene that the director wants to have done.

Found a article about Cage playing Blaze from http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/
its dated 12/19/04 so its now listed under thier archived articles....you have to sign up in order to read it.
anyway here is what it says, ill post just the stuff that is new:

" Cage, 40, is expected to arrive in town early in the month to prepare for his role as Johnny Blaze in the movie which starts filming at Central City Studios, Docklands, on February 14."
and
"Directed by Mark Steven Johnson, who made the Ben Affleck-Jennifer Garner hit, Daredevil, the $51 million adaptation of the marvel comic book series will be the most expensive film shot in Melbourne."

the official word that we have been given is that Cage would start shooting on 1/31....now it says in Febuary? also it says the budget is $51 mil. weird....not a big deal but it would be nice to get some solid info for once. hopefully all of this will be answered once they make their casting announcements. speaking of which i hope they arent running into any major problems w/ casting...maybe we will hear something by the end of this week.

I wouldn't worry about that. Remember he's shooting New World? Maybe the crew will start shooting the scenes that don't have Blaze/Ghost Rider in them.

i hope thats the case...would make better sense to start filiming and get some basic shots done until your star gets there. would also help "warm up" the production so to speak....make sure everything is running smoothly by the time Cage gets there.
i just hate any more delays, even if it is a few more weeks....GR has had wayyy too many.

by new world do you mean the terence malik film ?
nice to see the budget increase

hmmm..havent heard anything about Cage being involved in New World....although he still might be doing some last minute shots for Lord of War.
that could be the reason for the delay

I thought that was maybe the film retro meant...it has monica belluci in it as well:D
thing is cage is also signed to start shooting next in the summer so he better get a move on

Thanks for correcting me guys. It's not New World (Colin Farrell - Christian Bale) but Lord of War.

Heres some more news on Ghost Rider. New quote from Cage:

EVENING TIMES (UK):

The two projects Cage is contemplating illustrate his range. One is a remake of The Wicker Man set in California and written and directed by acclaimed playwright Neil La Bute. The other is an adaptation of the cult Marvel Comic, Ghost Rider. Cage is a comic book fan and even took his name from the Marvel character Luke Cage - his real name is Nicholas Coppola.

"I feel like I'm allowed to explore and challenge all the characters," he says.

"Whether it's in an adventure film or an independent movie.

"It just keeps me fresh, keeps me interested. And," he adds, "both are honest."

From the HERALD SUN (AUSTRALIA) - September 26, 2004:

NICOLAS CAGE

THE eccentric Hollywood heavyweight is heading our way to film big-budget flick Ghost Rider for several months next year.

Not exactly shy and retiring, the Oscar winner will certainly let Melburnians know he is in town. He has reportedly rented a palatial home in Brighton.

Cage, 40, may bring his latest wife, former sushi waitress Alice Kim, 20, with him. They have been married five months.

Cage separated from his first wife, Patricia Arquette, after nine months and his second wife, Lisa Marie Presley, after 107 days.

If Kim's relationship survives the Ghost Rider shoot, she will become his most long-lived spouse -- something to celebrate.

Again...nice finds Retroman.
i saw that 2nd article earlier today but that top one is new.
nothing big...but at least it will have to hold us over until Sony starts giving out an official cast list. i wouldnt be suprised if they delay announcing it until mid January.

hey MM nice to see ya....its been dead here on the GR board over christmas...still great news about cage hopefully some other casting after new years;)

Hey GR Peeps..

:D

Hawaii is great, and Nic Cage is 100% confirmed now, and recently married.. interesting news..

:)

I'll be back on the Hype and updating in about a week.. or so, whenever I get back.. the plane ride is going to be fun coming back..

:D

(Thank goodness for Apple Stores!)

Glad to hear everything went ok. give us a 5 page report on your trip when you get back :D
like HR said its been pretty dead since xmas....hopefully that will change in Jan.

So much great things coming in January. Ghost Rider announcements and shooting - Superman casting announcements - Elektra premieres......

That is true....lots of stuff should be happening in Jan.
Elektra is opening on Jan 14th and normally it seems Marvel likes to have at least 2 weeks of hype before a film opens. it would make sense that Marvel wouldnt want to "steal the spotlight" from a new film opening w/ casting announcements for another film thats set to shoot in a few weeks.
im thinking the producers will more than likely wait until the dust settles after Elektra opens and then make their official cast announcements for GR.
would also be cool if there was a press conference in Australia (would probably happen in early Febuary) w/ Cage, MSJ, and some other cast and crew members to talk briefly about the film similar to what Lions Gate did for the Punisher and 20th Cent Fox did for Fantastic Four at the San Diego Comic Con.
will be interesting....

i hope thery get someone good for the villians because i hope its not the kid from the matrix.

that would be a waste if they did that...would also mean they were really hurting trying to find actors for the villains.
its really odd too that there hasnt been any news leaks as to who the supporting actors are gonna be. i would think that some would have been revealed by now.

The only person that I would like to see the Kid play is a young Dan Ketch... in a few scenes. MSJ has said that Ketch is not involved but, you never know what will happen during production time. It was forever ago that MSJ posted those answers to us.

remember that "rumor" that i came across at IMDB about Eva Mendes playing the lead role? its possible....however slim....that some supporting charcters could be hispanic. also it seems that they were thinking of filming here in Texas as well (lots of latin and anglos down here). i would not be suprised if they were looking for latin actors if the film was set in the Southwest...or dare i say it...maybe even in Texas?
gonna have to wait and see on this one...right now i just want to know the cast!

Looks like BIGGUN was right too. Elektra has premiered and now we have some info...

Nice one... and it's very good of you to resurface an appropriate thread for the news!

I wonder who he's gonna play...

... and I also wonder why they reported it to be a 40 mill movie.

I love that pic of Cage. I think I'll post it in the Cage thread.

As most of you know, Matt Norman (CEO of The Actors Cafe Pty Ltd) is also an actor. Matt has been given a role in the new Nicholas Cage film "Ghost Rider" which started shooting in February. Matt jumped through the roof with the news that he would be playing opposite Cage in this $40Mil US blockbuster. To be in a film that Cage is in is one thing, to be in the same scene with an idol of mine is completely different. Also Matt's two sons are completely over the moon with this news. Being huge fans of this genre of film makes them very proud of their old man.!

FORMER Big Brother survivor Vincent Amato has returned to his pre-reality TV life and is working as a structural engineer in Melbourne.

However, there is still a little bit of the showbiz bug in him. Amato has scored the potentially bruising job as US actor Wes Bentley's body double on the action blockbuster Ghost Rider. Bentley plays the film's bad guy character, Blackheart.

Now, though, things couldn't be more different. With two Hollywood productions - Columbia's Ghost Rider and Paramount's Charlotte's Web - spending a combined $80 million here, the state's production slate is already well up on last year. According to Film Victoria, the value of productions up to mid-February was already around $164 million.

Ghost Rider is Mr Walsh's second production in Australia; last year he made the military adventure Stealth in Sydney. When director Mark Steven Johnson looked at Melbourne, Mr Walsh says, "he fell in love with it, especially the laneways and the architecture and the river with the network of bridges". (Before you go getting a warm, fuzzy feeling, he adds that Ghost Rider is set in a "nondescript city in Texas".)

Mr Walsh was speaking to The Sunday Age at the end of the first week of shooting in and around the motorcycle precinct in Elizabeth Street.

"It was difficult," he says of the night shoot that involved 200 people and 45 trucks loaded with gear, "but not insurmountable".

In a few weeks, the bar will be raised just a little higher when the second unit starts work - that's another 150 people and 30 trucks of gear. It dwarfs anything Melbourne has seen before in terms of movie productions, and it demands a high degree of flexibility on the part of the council, the Melbourne Film Office and other interested parties.

But if it all comes off, the rewards are potentially enormous. "I wouldn't say Melbourne is being held hostage," says Mr Walsh. "But what I see here with Ghost Rider and Charlotte's Web is the challenge to open this city up as a competitor to Sydney and the Gold Coast (Movie World)."

He says that, to the best of his knowledge, Nicolas Cage has no intention of flying back to Los Angeles during the Ghost Rider shoot. And he says co-star Peter Fonda plans to spend his entire time in Australia, despite a seven-week break in filming.

to add to that report, Melbourne isn't being held hostage due to the crew, but with the F1 also happening down the road from Melbourne, the city isn't the easier place to navigate at the moment.
thankfully i catch the train, which is see hardly any disruption (except for a scene MSJ said they'll shoot on the train tracks).
that being said, i've heard people whinge about not being able to get a car spot here in melbourne now. whingers! personally i would love for more productions to happen in melbourne, especially comic book ones.
