Okay, sometimes the internet can get really, really screwed up and people get bent about the silliest things.

I just got banned permanently from Devoted To Tom Welling and all of it's related sites for, of all things, stealing content from them. The moderator there claimed that I had posted their content in my most recent news updates as James' new helper.

This. Is. Total. BS.

I had posted about the major update to the CBTD 2 site and then James later updated my news item with images he had downloaded from that site. However, they claim the photos he used were from their site which totally isn't true.

If you examine the photos in question, which I have, you may notice that the images James posted were of better quality than the ones posted on DTTW.

That is probably because James actually decompiled the Macromedia Flash animation (yes, you can do that) to pull the original images from it. On the other hand, someone over on DTTW had likely taken screen caps of the CBTD 2 site and cropped them to get their images.

Totally different means of getting the same images doesn't mean you stole them.

The mod who had emailed me had also claimed that I had stolen their news item about the ET segment on Cheaper 2 that they were going to have on tonight's show. James' item on the segment mentioned I told him about it, only they claim I heard it from them first.

Also, totally not true.

I had seen the tease that ET had at the end of their Tuesday show for the segment. I had corresponded with James about it and I think we had discussed whether it was a worthy news item since it wasn't clear Tom would even appear at the Cheaper Premiere (he didn't, if you hadn't heard). James knew about the segment before their news item was published.

I would also like to point out that this has been a two way street. There have been many times when it's been proven that news items and content have been taken from James' site and posted on DTTW without giving James credit, which breaks their own rules I might add.

Just a few days ago, in fact, that there were caps of a video on James' site that were posted on DTTW. These caps were posted without mention of where the images came from.

Their member's "theft" and rule breaking doesn't seem to bother the mods over on DTTW overly much. However, if they think someone has stolen from them, whether it is true or not, they ban you without getting your side and insult you in harshly worded emails.

Even though I'm venting, and will likely alienate any people that still like that site, I don't really care that I got banned.

What I care about was that I was banned for what seems to be one of two totally stupid reasons:

1. Alleged thefts that I did not commit but wasn't allowed to defend myself against before I got banned.
2. I "work" for two competing sites and they couldn't think of any better reason than accusing me of theft to get rid of me.

So I hope my story makes people examine whether it's really a good idea to frequent that site at all.

EDIT: btw, apparently "multiple people" have complained to the mods over there that I'm a plagiarist... As if.

I'm a writer and don't steal other's work. I've had some of my own stolen, so I know how much it hurts. I am also a good enough writer that I don't need to steal their content even if I were low enough (or desperate enough) to think I needed to. Any similarities are purely coincidental.

Well, I don't go over there much anymore anyway because a. the site is almost always malfunctioning, b. the news is usually posted elsewhere sooner and more acurately and c. because I get really annoyed with some of the immature banter on the forums. If you have something even interesting to say that's great, but I can only take so much of how much you wish Tom could be your boyfriend and you could move to Canada and have his babies cause that would be really cool.

Enough ranting!

I dont get how someone else's pictures (ET's) or someone else's site update (CBTD2) can be considered DTTW's news? Like no one else couldve been watching ET or checking the CBTD2 site and happened to see them, expecially other sites that focus on Welling?
I could see them having an issue if DTTW had some sort of exclusive pics or an interview that no one else had (not that Welling would give them the time of day mind you) and that popped up somewhere else without them getting credit, but to claim that they have some sort of original right to a 3rd parties public news is just ******ed.

It's not theirs. They're just being pissy because both James and Triplet have called them on stealing images from his site. The posters there don't follow message board etiquette. They have a tendency to copy images and news articles and don't always cite their sources or ask permission first. The bad thing is that it is downright stealing because they'll either crop the image or alter it to take off the watermark that most websites put on their images.

It's all so silly. But to "ban" people from a site that they have both contributed to because they are part of a "competing" site, is just overkill.. and mean-spirited, IMO. Tommy-love is meant to be shared by one and all. EVERYTHING eventually gets around to all the sites.. so why not just credit where due and move on?
