Pat, I was about to post the same thing as well.

Now what's the point of doing the Super-Sequel in Vancouver?!
If they're waiting for a 2009 release, I guess they'll reuse the Smallville sets (since, presumably, the show will be over by then).

Besides, filming the Superman sequel in the base operations of Smallville is kind of like adding insult to injury, no?

I don't understand that at all!

There is a thread on the Planet about casting for Logan's Run. I'd SO love to see our favorite superhero actor get one of the two leads in that movie. Logan would be cool, but my preference would be for TW to play Francis and Henry Cavill to play Logan.

Someone call Singer for me.

Nardi has developed a pyramid scheme for "Smallville", encouraging his friends to persuade their friends to watch. After recruiting his mother and grandmother to watch the show, he expanded to an entire unit of the US Army who now watch "Smallville" onboard their submarine.

an Army submarine?? uhhh, I know some things have changed in the almost 10 years that I've been out of the service but as far as I know, the Army doesnt have any submarines.... that's what the Navy is for...

Indeed, I did find it kind of odd, if not a bit ironic too. Besides all of the tax incentives and the experience established by the on-set crew as well as those from post production houses that a lot of CGI work was likely farmed out to, all of the wardrobe, props and sets are still Down Under. For a sequel (to the sequel :p ), it makes more sense (in my mind) to pick up where you left off rather than shipping everything of importance halfway around the world and then starting back from scratch with a new crew. And the really ironic part is that they were supposed to shoot the first film in Vancouver. Maybe that was just a rumor, I dunno, but it seems less of a rumor now considering.

Okay, 'nuf about SR...

Logan's Run. Hmm. Well, if they're starting principle in September, that would completely rule out our favorite guy in primary colors. L'sR isn't The Fog - or CBtD. They're probably looking at an 80 - 100 day shooting sked.

But as much as I wouldn't mind seeing our guy in a big film like that, I don't think he'd do L'sR even if he could. It would probably be the best decision in the end anyway........

That's what I meant by "insult to injury." When everybody and their grandmother practically confirmed Welling was Supes, one of the telling points was that the crew was planning on filming the flick in Vancouver.

Ultimately, they decided to move Down Under, hire a new Superman and Welling started the story about "Smallville having to go away" before doing a Supes movie.

Now they plan to film the sequel in Vancouver, knowing full well Smallville will be history by the time principal filming starts (even I, the eternal SV optimist, don't see the show lasting beyond 2008)?! It bogges the mind.

Who knows? Maybe the Superman sequel isn't a sequel after all, but the studios hedging their bets and planning a full on Smallville-based Superman after the series wraps. Thus the filming in Vancouver.

Hey. A guy can dream.

Why do you say that?

If he could get a role in a huge picture like that (if he could fit it into his schedule), even a supporting role especially if he doesn't have time to do the lead, why wouldn't it be a good idea?

It would move him up onto a higher plane in the business and isn't that a good idea?

If the film is due to unspool in 2009 (per the Variety article), then they'd start preprod sometime in the fall of 2007, right? That's only about 18 months from now. If SV goes seven seasons, that would put production for the sequel concurrent with production of SV's 7th season. (I'm extrapolating based on the schedule for SR, and presuming the sequel would have a summer preem.)

LOL I was just about to say, "keep dreaming." ;)

I still think it's weird they'd want to move the production sites when everything is already set up and established in Oz. But maybe Singer and the other PTB just want to be closer to home, I dunno. Peter Jackson didn't have *that* problem. [shrugs]

Regardless, IF we ever see a SV film, it won't be directed by Singer. He wasn't interested the first time. I can't see him touching such a thing with a ten foot pole now.

Turning down such a role has more to do with the picture and director, not the fact that it's a big film and therefore would be time consuming to lens.

  • L'sR is a remake. Would Welling be interested in yet *another* remake? Would that *really* be such a good idea?
  • Dystopian genred films aren't as popular now as they were in the 70's. Reference the underperformance of films such as Michael Bay's "The Island," and Spielberg's "Minority Report." Even Will Smith had a tough time with "I Robot," and I'm trying to forget the BO travesty with Bale's own "Equilibrium," the latter of which WAS really a brilliant film, IMHO. $1.2M domestic. That's IT! Budget: $20M. Ouch.
  • And finally, L'sR is being directed by Singer. Would the studio, Welling, Singer, EVERYBODY involved... *really* want to field the inevitable ENDLESS questions from both the fans and press? You KNOW the questions that would be asked. Can you imagine all the rumors and speculation that would ensue? I honestly don't think Welling wants to go "there" anymore. He probably rolls his eyes now.
Anyhoo, that's just the way I see it. I could be wrong.

Oh, absolutely. But I'm sure he's got plenty of offers sitting on his manager's desk. He's the lead in a heretofore successful TV show that's lasted five years and will be going into its sixth. He has three motion pictures under his belt, one as the lead, and they've all been B.O. successes. He's smart, talented, and most importantly, he's made friends at 20th, Warners and Sony. Trust me, he's not gonna disappear any time soon. He's got one helluva career in front of him. I loved Logan's Run and look forward to the remake. But all things considered, I think there will be FAR better roles for Tom to pick and choose from when the time comes.

Gotcha...

Maybe NOT doing another remake would be a hard thing to do... I mean, most films that have been made lately have been either a remake or an adaptation from another source.

Hardly anything that Hollywood puts out nowadays is original.

Yeah, you're right... I hope we hear soon what he's got planned for his summer hiatus.

Whatever it is, I'll be watching it opening day.

They're really jumping the gun with a SR sequel...

Although Jonathan Nolan writing BB2 is music to my ears.

Are you being facetious? I can't tell. You know PJ did LOTR and KK in New Zealand because he's from New Zealand, right?

Agreed on both counts !

Right, which is why I said Peter Jackson didn't have *that* problem. He was ALREADY "home."

It's gotta be tough for the American cast and crew of Superman Returns to be shooting on the other side of the world. In fact, that's one of the rumored reasons that McG didn't want to lens there. So I was suggesting that it might be why they're intent on bringing the SR sequel to Vancouver: Singer would prefer to be closer to home. I certainly would. And that's no slight against Singer or the folks in Oz. Just a matter of comfort. :)

I also agree with MJZ, though I'd bet dollars to donuts Warners isn't gonna greenlight a budget for anything larger than a 3x3 Post-It pad until AFTER SR unspools. They're not THAT stupid. LOL

You make good points (as usual) but I disagree. I think Logan's Run is a FAR cry from a low-budget horror remake with a low-rung director. I also think that it has much more name recognition and appeal for the masses. You may be right about the underperformance of this genre.. but as long as it's a *good* film that does decent B.O., I guess I'd still like to see him do it. I am admittedly biased though.. I loved Logan's Run and can't wait for the remake.

Oh, absolutely. But I'm sure he's got plenty of offers sitting on his manager's desk.
As previously noted by many of us.. he could star in "Phone Book Reading, The Legend Begins," and I'm still there opening night. :D

Always the pessimist.

Maybe, they've seen enough footage to convince them SR will be another BB. And that the 'other' guy is the one they were looking for after all.

Plausible? Yes. And at this point, all signs would point in that direction wouldn't it? (Especially with the budgets that get would be thrown around) Orherwise, there would absolutely NO talk of sequels this prematurely.

BTW, be JEALOUS of me MJZ......Yesterday in Hollywood I saw your hero....I believe his first name is Ivan....last, Drago. :) (looked skinny)

Ah hell, it is the Talon..I might as well brag a little.

In a span of about 35 mins, on Sunset Blvd I saw:

(Oceans Eleven, Oceans Twelve)

(Mr. Lundren)

and

kiss_gene_simmons2_GI.jpg

(This guy said was the one that said whats up. I thought it would have been weird if I asked to see the tongue...so I didn't) :o

if ya'll love MR and his funny, witty commentary, you should watch some JLU episodes with alot of screentime for The Flash. He's hilarious in that too. 90% of the things the Flash says are EXACTLY what MR would say in the same scenarios, lol.

Of course they'd want to do sequels, but it's premature to say it's gonna happen. We didn't hear anything on a BB sequel for a long time after release--many fanboys were worried stiff, even though it was a smash. I remember a bunch of flap after Hulk and DD were released, with the studios saying sequels were on the way, and look how that turned out.

Cool beans re: Dolph. He is rather thin these days. I guess I'll have to settle for hanging with Matt Damon and seeing Martin Scorcese in action this past summer. :)

You don't wanna play the celebrity game with me my friend. ;)

Let's just say you're lucky I don't walk around with a camera everywhere I go! I got a Jon Lovitz pic somewhere though (PISS drunk he was)......DodgerGames are the best. (Oh and knowing a certain Spanish Speaking Dodger Left-Handed Legend helps in the 'meeting ballplayers' category) :D

P.S A-Rod IS that damn handsome in person....:( I'm as straight as they come and I was like....'lucky ****er!'
