One of the things I have to give Abrams credit for is bringing the tech from the original series into a more modern idea of what future technology could look like. From the redesign of the bridge to the weapons and the ships in general. I think Abrams did a GREAT job in the first film keeping the feel or the classic series while improving on those original designs. It's new and old at the same time.

All though,I DO wish they had stayed with the original phaser weapons rather than the pulse based weapons we have in the new Trek universe. It's a small knitpick, but one I think will always be in my mind.

I gotta say, I love the spacesuit designs. Specially the one shown Spock wearing in the volcano.

Anyone have any particular re-designs they like?

I wouldn't mind the bridge having more of a black and red colour scheme to match the original series than the white Apple store look.

The interiors of the ship, I love. The Bridge, the Transporter room, love all of it. EXCEPT! The Engineering. God and hate that. So much. I know it was filmed in a brewery, but it looks just like a Brewery, not Engineering of a Star Ship!

ah ha! Forgot about that! I totally agree with you. I think I read the sequel fixes that though? I hope that's true.

I think I read somewhere that they were remedying that problem in this film.

Can't stand the phasers with their flippy barrel and now only two settings, stun and kill. The phasers from TOS were much more versatile and looked just as good.

I saw a still with Chekov and behind him was one of those big steel vats which featured in the "big hands" scene where Kirk speaks with Uhura.

I'm guessing we still have a Budweiser engineering... :whatever:

I want to see more types of guns and more types of melee weapons in particular, like when Sulu had the pop-up katana. what's the equivalent of a gatling gun in the 23rd century? ah..

Also, let's see some non-lethal weapons, like entrapment weapons, glue bubbles, etc.

No need with the stun setting :) Fast and less messy

Some great new tech in this move:Spoilery so if you don't want to know;
I won't mention the plot just the tech, but still kinda spoilery:
1)Communicators (the hand held type) that work between Qo'noS and Earth
2)Portable transporters that fit in a backpack, can transport between Earth and Qo'nos
3) New long range torpedoes.
4) The gatling gun / or its equivalent used by a major character
5) Some advances/regressions in medical treatments that have remarkable properties, to say any more would spoil. Alright, this is spoiler tagged after all. Its a cure for death no less:doh:
6) Big bad ass ships that go faster, and have more guns n' stuff.
7) On the other side of things, Klingon defences and sensor technology seem remarkably poor.
8) Starfleet once again doesn't have enough ships
9) Nice seatbelts.
10) On the downside now, the ordinary transporters can only beam down when it counts, despite being able to beam Kirk and Sulu up while in free fall in STO9, as well as a whole group of people, save one, from a collapsing planet.
