The Last Jedi The title of Episode VIII speculation

Apparently it was in another title speculation thread, but my suggestion was "Star Wars: March of the Dark Side".

Star Wars: Legacy of the Force

Star Wars: Legacy of the Jedi

I'm hoping it's a weird title that nobody sees coming.

I stared earlier this year that I feel the theme of "prophecy" will play a factor in the next film, maybe going as far as having it in the actual title. I believe Rey and Luke's training will coincide back and forth with Kylo and Snoke's.

With that, I also believe, from the tiny hints in the Art of RO book, that Vader's castle will be used again (and what better time to use it when it was just shown in a previous film and will be fresh in everyone's minds) and Snoke will show Kylo the Sith cave underneath the castle. Back on Ach-To, we'll have Luke show Rey the first Jedi Temple (which I assume is part of that tree we've seen in set photos).

Piling this all together, I think we'll get more background on the Whills, from both parties. Perhaps, Snoke's and Luke's story about them are totally different, leaving the audience guessing which one is correct (in which we'll discover in EP 9?). Or maybe Luke has a piece of the Journal of the Whills and Snoke has the other half and in order to fully understand the prophecy or Force, they need to connect the two?

Regardless, I believe the next film could be called Prophecy of the Whills. Or even Journal of the Whills.

(sorry for such a long post haha).

I could see Prophecy of the Whills, now that you mention it.

"The Last Jedi" most definitely refers to Luke. Snoke even says so in Force Awakens, check out this video. He says that the droid will lead them to the Last Jedi. If Skywalker returns, he will give rise to the New Jedi. Skywalker is the Last Jedi, but not the last of the Jedi, just the last of that order of Jedi. His return will prompt the New Jedi, Rey and company, to rise. Snoke and the first order will do anything to make sure Luke cannot return, but I don't think that includes killing him. They either need him alive, or simple can't kill him. Maybe instead, they have marooned him on the island planet with no way of getting off. Luke's face out the end of Force Awakens is surprise that not that necessarily know Rey, but surprised someone has finally found him.

Either he can't return because he is stuck there, or won't because he knows that if he does, the new Jedi will rise and be exposed and targeted by the Snoke and the First Order.
