The Tobey Maguire/Peter Parker Thread

[Venom 1988]

A film's plot is told in part by a person's ability to be in-character, *****e. If the person can't be in-character, the story becomes disjointed, it feels forced, and it becomes less convincing. Too bad you didn't know that. Tobey has been the perfect Peter Parker. Peter Parker is the main character. Most of the plot does revolve around the protagonist, you know? If a person can't act, it obviously affects the entire film. Maguire doesn't have that problem. His portrayal of Peter Parker can either make or break the story. If you're so picky about Tobey's acting abilities why don't you suggest someone else to take his place? Let's hear some names.

While Tobey IMO has been doing an "ok" job and I dont mind him as the main lead, but I definilty think he should be recasted. He comes of boring at times and is too serious. He needs to be more witty and comical, but not too much tho.

I like Tobey as Peter. I'm familiar with him now, and seeing him go will be a definite shocker. I'd have to adjust to a completely different Peter Parker, and that would feel strange.

To be honest, I think TMags' best performance as peter/spidey on the whole was in sm3 and thats because he acted like a person who had confidence but generally, I think the guy needs to go. I appreciate he carried 3 movies but he's far from the perfect portrayal and it's time for someone else to carry the next 3 movies.

I originally really disliked the Spidey symbiote suit(a simple lazy coloring of the normal suit). It's grown on me now, it's not bad at all. But I still wish it had been different from his normal suit other than just in colors. Things such as the white web hand extensions from the symbiote suit and the symbiote symbol from the comics and tv show would have been cool. But all in all, just a small complaint.

Why does everyone on here, that I've read atleast, think that Tobey's best Peter Parker/Spider-man performance was Spider-man 3 and think he did terribly in the first two films? I think he was an awesome Peter/Spider-man in Spider-man and he was very good in the sequel. To me Spider-man 3 was all together his weakest outing. His acting was about as good as the other two films but he was completely out of shape in this one. It really shows when he runs over to aid Harry as he is about to die in MJ's arms.

well people who only know Peter Parker from the movies tend to think he was the perfect Peter Parker, even though they really have nothing to base it off. longtime fans of the comic see that the movies portrayel is nothing like the comic book version, and come off disappointed. i think some fans think his best performance was in number 3, because he actually acted a little like his comic book counterpart in a few scenes
