The Trump Thread!!!

Maybe now people will start realizing representative democracy has its limits. A president will always be a representation of the average citizen's belief in his country. The fact that Trump is leading should tell people everything they need to know about the collective conscious of the American people.

It's Obama fallout. Everything is Obama fallout right now. People that despised Obama since he's been in are now just clamoring for the anti-Obama.

He's pandering to all the closet racists and white supremacists. Whether that continues to be a trend, when more level headed voters come out closer to election, or not remains to be seen.

Anyone who seriously believes these polls that show Trump would have a shot against Clinton or any other Democrat needs a reality check, but if the Republican Party wants to nominate him I'm more than happy to watch them self destruct. I'm really starting to believe half the responders to these polling companies are saying they'd vote for Trump as a joke. Not going to lie, I've considered switching my party affiliation for the primary to vote for him just to watch the ****show that would result from him winning the primary and I doubt I'm the only one.

That is a great idea!

It takes a few more people to think like that and you brazen numpties could end up with this oxygen thief as your president. People need to do everything they can to keep this guy as far from being the Republican candidate as possible. You'd be surprised how many would vote for him in a straight choice between him and Hillary.

I've already vowed to vote for him as a Dem if he wins the R's nom. I think our country can handle 4 years of insanity if it ensures the R's never win an election again. Fair trade off in my book

Assuming there would be a country left to have an election...

No offense, but I don't think you understand the systemic damage a candidate like that would do. Obama spent the better part of his tenure cleaning up the economic mess Bush left.

Trump would do damage that would take over a decade to fix, and people will forget about him. No matter what he does it'll be forgotten with time and the Republicans will keep getting new candidates. Also, that four years of insanity will start ****ing up your life after a while, to no ends.

Edit: FYI, your country, and the world, won't survive four years of Trump. Things are a lot more tenuous than they may seem.

I'm not going to lie. The sheer amount of support Trump has gotten is disturbing. But I still think this is just media fodder. The election is more than a year away. Right now, everyone is bored. If Trump is still leading in the poles in mid 2016, I will start to worry. But, right now, I think this is just glorified reality television.

Hopefully. At the risk of sound like a doomsayer, I don't think the average citizen has any idea what a bad state global society is in, socially and economically, forgetting the environmental aspect. People think civilian deaths at the hands of cops are bad under Obama, it'll be like a national pastime under Trump. The USA's social fabric is frayed enough without an incompetent narcissist setting the national agenda.

Everything trickles down from a country's leader, and Trump would royally **** things up.

My fear is that all the jovial bravado now gets people used to the idea of him and come the election he'll be seen as a viable option because people entertained it now.

There is no way a person saying this can win a general election:

"@YoungYoung54: @JeriHyatt @megynkelly @JebBush So true. Jeb Bush is crazy, who cares that he speaks Mexican, this is America, English !!"

Starting to think he either drunk tweets or is trolling the entire country right now

People said the same thing about Bush. He was patently a moron before the election.

Yeah, but he also got a higher percentage of Latino votes than any Republican running for President before or since.

Irrelevant trivia? People are going to rue the day they entertained this. At the very least it opens people's minds up to the ridiculous.

What's next? Adam Levine for secretary of state?

To Bush's credit, he didn't call them rapists and criminals. Even Rick Perry, has the sense not to openly antagonize Hispanics.

The only people seriously entertaining this are racist right wingers. The sad fact is that makes up a good portion of the Republican base. The worst case scenario is this completely destroys the Republican Party for a decade and a Libertarian movement gains traction which all in all I think the country kind of needs to happen. I don't think a single Democrat is kept up at night worrying about an inevitable Trump presidency,

Perhaps you're right, maybe he will fizzle out. I have to question the logic behind thinking Libertarianism is any kind of improvement over the current system though. It's asking for even worse levels of self obsession and exaltation of liberty over responsibility.

I don't agree with libertarianism but it's a healthier alternative than socially conservative evangelical warmongers. At least I can look at most libertarian principles and say "I respect your opinion and get where you are coming from but disagree, and hey you are even in the right on a few issues".

I'm not sure which is worse to be honest, I equate them with one another. The aspects that make libertarianism seem palatable are a facade to sell it to people. It's as dangerous as, if not more than, its alternatives. Any philosophy that preaches the choice of the individual over the effect on the community is extremely problematic. Even in theory it's a problem, imagine putting it into the average person's hands.

Libertarianism is essentially an attempt at philosophically justifying why an individual does not need to take responsibility for their behaviour or consider the consequences of their actions. It's hedonism in political dress.

I don't think you can run a society on Libertarianism. You can run a society on the principles of American conservatism. It's a patriarchal, and exploitive society, but it functions. Libertarianism is a half-assed form of anarchy.

I believe in balance. Fewer and fewer people do. I remember growing up when there were sane conservatives. Every now and then one pops up, like Kasich, but they are a dying breed.

The modern Republican party is dominated by religious extremists and / or demagogues, and those unable to stand up them (read: Jeb Bush).

This is true, I won't argue that. But it's more too. American citizens are tired of laying in bed with China financially, they are tired of losing jobs overseas, tired of making concessions at the negotiating table, tired of reverse assimilation, tired of political correctness. Trump is touching on that. Doesn't have a plan on fixing it other than blurting out remark after remark, but he is touching on it. And he is playing the moderate card in his own way by backing gay marriage and planned parenthood.
