They are accurate in a sense, are they a predictor of what's to come this early they aren't that reliable. That being said I'm surprised that Hillary only has a 2 point edge on Trump in general election head to head polls and that Ben Carson is tied with Hillary.

At this point in time I think the margin of error is like ~5%(ie say Trump polls at 25% there is a chance he could get 20% or 30%). All that being said all that polls shows is what people feelings are as of today. The majority of the population isn't paying much attention and many times will pick the person they know.

Yeah polls this far out are useless and not indicative of how a candidate might perform in the general election. Not enough registered voters are being polled at this point. Once the primaries get going next year we will start to see which way the wind is blowing.

Carson is basically the anti-Trump. He started from nothing, Trump inherited all he needed. He admits he has a lot to learn, Trump insists he needs no help. He has a calm, soothing, bedside manner that draws people to him while Trump thrives on riling people up.

Basically, it can be summed up with: If you woke up from surgery and saw Carson, he'd make you feel that everything was all right. If you woke up and saw Trump, you'd immediatly check your side to see if he stole your kidney.
