The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

And since we're on a new page...time to repeat it:

Reminders, now that the movie is almost here:

This thread is to discuss the new Twilight film, and the franchise in general. It is not for:

- Making fun of Twilight fans. If you are coming into this thread to do that, stop now. If you can't stop yourself and post something bashing Twilight fans, you will be receive a one-month probation. No exceptions.

- Bashing Twilight for the sake of bashing Twilight. We realize this series has as many detractors as it does fans. However, if your purpose coming into this thread to announce that Twilight sucks just for the purpose of aggravating Twilight fans, you will also be dealing with some time off from the boards. Again, no exceptions.

To the Twilight fans: if someone is here to troll, just report the post and it will be dealt with. Don't make matters worse by engaging them, the staff will take care of them for you.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your cooperation.

Well, there are 0 fresh reviews for the movie and three rotten reviews for the movie.

"An eventful but bloodless first half of the smash series' finale."-Hollwood Reporter

"All the more disappointing, then, that a story so pregnant with dramatic possibilities should wind up feeling like such an unconsummated opportunity."-Screen International

"The performances in Breaking Dawn are largely soapy and melodramatic, especially from Lautner and to a lesser degree Pattinson."-Variety

Yeah. Three reviews. Out of dozens that will be posted once the movie is out (reviews weren't even supposed to be released until then).

Why so serious? :whatever:

All I did was report, you know? News. Not old news, but new news.

I'm just saying 3 reviews does not determine what the rest will be like.

And beyond that, I like to think for myself when it comes to whether or not I like I movie, rather than have people tell me what to think about a movie.

Just because you don't care it doesn't mean that no one else will care. Secondly, I never said anything about how the rest of the reviews will be like the three rotten reviews. To me it sounded like you were being condescending towards me just for the sake of it.

The movies aren't favourites for critics anyway, i really don't know any fans who will be looking to them for reference as to whether or not the films will be any good since all 3 got bad to mediocre reviews [shrug].

Anyway, i'm expecting nothing but a bit of pregnancy drama for BD part 1, the reviews have said it's a lead up where not much happens, and that's expected considering the second half of the story is where most things kick into gear, and we aren't getting that till next year.

To be honest the movies never get really good reviews anyway so this shouldnt be a surprise.

S.A.A.D: back away from this thread now if you don't have anything constructive to contribute. I can already tell this isn't going to end well for you if you continue this line of discussion.

And no, a mere three reviews on RT is not enough to make a consensus out of. And at this point, it could get 100 bad reviews and it won't matter, this series proved it was critic-proof a long time ago.

To those who decide to ignore danoyse's warnings...you don't want me to be the mod who gets the first response when your trolling gets reported...

Bought me and my ladies ticket for Friday, hope it's a good flick but after watching Vampire Diaries season 1 and 2 I can only think THIS IS WHAT TWILIGHT SHOULD BE!

It's no surprise that the first 3 reviews are bad. The movies have never gotten good reviews, I actually expect this to be the worst reviewed one seeing as how it's a part one and even a lot of fans disliked the last book.

I have a feeling most critics have already made up their minds about this movie before even seeing it. It's just one of those polarizing franchises. Like with Friday the 13th, you can guarantee that most of the reviews will be bad because the critics will have written it off as "trash."

I was watching Jumper the other day and I was shocked to see Kristen Stewart in that movie. She made this very strange face though that had me laughing me.

Here it is at the :24 second mark. It's like she's so horrifically disgusted.

2/5

It was quite a bit better than I thought it would be. I had expected an utter pile of crap, but wound up watching most of it and found it to be merely mediocre.

The performances from the love triangle are better than much of the earlier instalments. Jacob doesn't come across as a half wolf, half fencepost like he did in the previous two.

The plot more of a problem.

Best way to watch...
Take a 15 minute break as soon as they get to the island retreat. I went and replaced some blown lights. Meanwhile on screen they agonised over interspecies relationships and played chess. Rejoin the plot about the time Bella figures out that she's preggers.

The plot fizzles and gives little spurts for a while once everyone's back at Cullen House as well. I'd say a good 15 minutes of useless fluff could have headed for the proverbial "cutting room floor" and left Breaking Dawn all the better for it.

A comment on the effects...

A.) The wolves have not improved.
B.) Anorexic Bella looks realistically freaky-thin. Her skin and bones appearances looked quite effective to me.

Ultimately, Breaking Dawn is not worth seeing unless you're a dedicated fan. Which is a fairly routine position to take for this franchise by this point.

I've just got a question, is there an actual conflict in this movie. Do the Cullen vampires go after the Wolves or Dakota Fanning's group? Just wondering, since I'm going to see the movie this weekend as a sorry to my girlfriend for dragging her to Tron and Green Lantern. All she's really told me is Bella gets married, gets pregnant, then finally becomes a vampire. Just don't know how that plot can sustain two movies. Not trying to say anything bad or start a fight, just asking a question about the plot.

There is conflict between Edward and Bella over whether or not she should keep the baby or not (Edward wants to abort it because it's killing her and he thinks it's basically Satan's spawn), there's conflict between Jacob and the other wolves over the baby (they want to kill Bella and the Cullens over it because, like Edward, they think it's hellspawn. Jacob wants to kill "the thing" after it's born, mostly because he assumes Bella will be dead and so they won't have to kill her). The wolves try to force Jacob to see their side, he decides enough is enough and splits from the pack to protect Bella and the Cullens until after the birth, after which, should Bella not survive, he'll betray them and kill "the thing" and take out as many of the Cullens as he can before he assumedly dies himself. Two other wolves, Leah and her brother Seth, join Jacob in protecting Bella and the Cullens. There's also conflict within the Cullen family itself due to the baby. Some want to abort it (Edward, Alice, Jasper), others (Rosalie, Bella, Esme) want to keep it, and Carlisle and Emmett agree with Edward but don't really push the issue to avoid upsetting their mates.

As for The Volturi, they'll show up in part 2.

saw it last night
as a fan i thought it was alot better then the last ones
the acting from the main 3 was certainly alot better
bella's sickness effects were really well done, the direction/shots were alot better too

7.5/10

I'm guessing this is gonna pull in $150 million for the weekend.

You guys wanna hear a really funny story? My dad who is 47 years old likes these movies. He doesn't go to theaters to see them of course, but he rents them as soon as they hit redbox. My mom and I both chuckle when he sneaks home and watches them lol. Anyway, I just wanted to wish the Twilight fans well since this is the big weekend. I will be having nerdgasms like they do for this movie when The Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, and Amazing Spider Man hits theaters next year. Have fun Twilight fans!

(Honestly, as a 23 year old dude, some of the plot points in this movie has me kinda interested lol).

The pregnancy scenes were great. And when Bella goes into labor... it was awesome.

So far, I haven't heard whether Breaking Dawn has broken the midnight show record. We did fill up 8-9 auditoriums (we have 15 in all), so maybe not. Too early to tell, though.

Strange thing though, people started laughing at the Titanic 3D trailer. The exact same demographic that made that movie insanely popular 14 years ago... the new generation is laughing at it. (Of course, it could've been due to that overplayed Celine Dion song.)

I will be seeing this in full tonight, just for the audience reaction. And I hear Bill Condon got some good acting out of the two leads.

I went to this last night with my girlfriend. Probably the best comedy of the year. The story was dumb, the dialogue was ridiculous, the acting is still bad and the special effects are awful. The worst part though is without a doubt Kristen Stewart, she has the most bland face I've ever seen in movies. She just sits there with this stupid look on her face the whole movie, she is good in other movies I've seen but man she is bad in this one. This movie didn't have to be broken into 2 movies, they could have easily done 1 movie. I wouldn't say this is the worst movie I've seen this year but it is really close.
