The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

But you can't ignore what he does after New Moon, its still part of his character progression.

I wanted more Cronenberg, from the "birthing scene", especially with the way it plays in the book. I mean, I'll never look at strawberry jam and cream cheese the same way again, but I just wanted more bang for my buck. Of couse I know why they had to tone it down but this was the chance for them to reddeem themselves with me and damnit they didn't deliver.

Hell, everyone in that theater has read the book, so why not go for broke?

They turned Jacob into a jackass to make it seem like Bella made the right choice. But in New Moon it's a different story. He's actually a decent character and Bella had the chance to escape the emo-fest.

She never had a chance of escaping the emo-fest. She is her own emo-fest. Though I do agree, I did like Jacob in NM. He brought out better qualities in her when they were together.

I wouldn't give Bill Condon too much credit. Alexandre Desplat and Howard Shore took the music a different direction. So, Burwell just followed their lead - to the point that he even used some of their themes in his score.

I strained my ears to hear any of Desplat or Shore's material in the score, but Burwell either integrated it so well I didn't notice or I wasn't paying attention during some scenes. Can you point out the scenes where Burwell incorporates them?

Plus, Bill Condon's collaboration with Burwell in the past has resulted in very nice scores for Kinsey and Gods and Monsters (and BD1 is in the same vein, albeit on an epic scale). So Condon did have some involvement in how the score was approached.

It was an okay movie I don't think it was the best of the bunch. I personally felt the movie felt rushed and didn't give some scenes time to play out. Two biggest issues was Jaspers haircut, its like WTF did they do, and the other was the whole 'wolf pack' talk in the lumber yard, another WTF moment.
The good was I think Bella was better portrayed in this movie, and Jacob was actually a little less stiff acting than in the other movies, imo.
1. Eclipse
2. Twilight
3. New Moon
4. Breaking Dawn pt. 1

I think Bella could have outgrown the emo nonsense. She just needed time to grow up and leave her childish behavior behind. With Edward, she got way too committed and results in all this nonsense. With Jacob, even if the relationship didn't ultimately work out, she would have had time to become an adult and get a normal life.

Apparently repeatedly posting this isn't enough for some people, since I just had to delete a bunch of posts on the subject. So let's try this again:

And since we're on a new page...time to repeat it:

Reminders, now that the movie is almost here:

This thread is to discuss the new Twilight film, and the franchise in general. It is not for:

- Making fun of Twilight fans. If you are coming into this thread to do that, stop now. If you can't stop yourself and post something bashing Twilight fans, you will be receive a one-month probation. No exceptions.

- Bashing Twilight for the sake of bashing Twilight. We realize this series has as many detractors as it does fans. However, if your purpose coming into this thread to announce that Twilight sucks just for the purpose of aggravating Twilight fans, you will also be dealing with some time off from the boards. Again, no exceptions.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your cooperation.

Everyone got it? Let's hope so.

I have no idea why the reviews for this film have been so weak, i really liked it. Granted the films have never been critic favourites, but both Twilight and Eclipse got at least a MIXED reception sitting around the 50% on RottenTomatoes.com.

Seems like BD has been getting the same main issue complaint as NEW MOON [which was also equally as slated by critics], with it being too boring. I suppose if you don't care about the story you'd be bored since it does lack "action", but i didn't find it boring at all. The melodrama was enough, as was the pacing imo.

Anyway, it turned out better than expected. I think both Rob and Kristen have finally grown into their characters, with serious chemistry lacking between them for most of this franchise, child/birth and marriage seems to be a situation that suits them both best. I can't say the same for Jacob though, who not only is annoying as ever in this [mostly for the first ahlf of the film], but Taylor's acting seems to be getting worse. I did however like Jacob finally growing a pair and standing up to Sam, a lot of people didn't seem to like that scene, but i thought it was dramatic and nicely done.

The birth scene may not have been the gore fest it was in the books, but i didn't really care to be honest. They made up for that with Bella looking pretty much horrendous during her pregnancy anyway. She looked really gross.

My only real issue was once again with the vampire make up, not with the Cullens, but with the OTHER vampires that attended the wedding. I was laughing when i saw those vamp chicks on screen, they looked beyond stupid, the make up is just WAY too much in these movies sometimes. I know the vamps are supposed to look other wordly, but there is no way in hell ANY of those girls could walk around in day to day life with those ridiculous gold eyes, perfect skin and Barbie doll hair, they just looked silly.

All in all, as a fan of the books, i think it delivered and story wise i thought it was the best of the series, mostly because so mnay NEW things happen that are unique to the final section of the story [birth, sex, marriage ect]. I don't think it's the best of the films so far, that still goes to Eclipse, but i think BD was a good part 1 to what will no doubt be a much more "action packed" part 2 next year.

I liked it.

The birth scene was intense as hell. It didn't need to be ultra-mega-gory for the emotion of the scene to get across. And I started to cry when Edward was desperately trying to save her when her heart stopped.

Ever since the first film the general issue(with the critics) has been most of the main leads are not likeable/interesting. And it really hasn't changed that much throughout the series. So for the first hour of this movie with not much going on and just the two leads it makes sense why they wouldn't enjoy it.

not starting trouble but why were posts deleted i read all of them no one was trolling at all people were giving intelligent opinions on what they disliked about the film people weren't bashing the movie just to be trolls they did'nt like the film or some character moments they were giving intelligent critiques this is a discussion forum after all not a love forum

Yeah it was pulled off well, i was surprised. He looked genuinly upset. I felt bad for Bella throughout this too, i usually can't stand her.

The posts that were deleted (and in at least two cases, infracted) were because they were in regards to a link to a video someone posted that had a ton of language, and another because it had uncensored curse word. No one's deleting dissenting opinions about the movie.

I was surprised at how well Pattinson sold the scene, especially when he realizes the wolves are coming and calls Alice and Jasper. I don't think I've seen him carry a scene this well in the franchise at all until this movie.

I wonder if Condon can weave that same magic for Part 2.

After this movie's huge worldwide opening weekend can we please stop it with the it's a fad comments? The series obviously is not a fad, it's a series that a lot of people like and a lot of people hate.

FADS DON'T INVOLVE FOUR HIT MOVIES IN A ROW!

BTW: The movie was cheesy and sucked just like the other films but for some inexplicable reason I'm going to see the second half and finish out the series. For some reason I like these bad movies.

Mini Review

Although Breaking Dawn features the best acting and direction yet it also has the weakest and dumbest story yet. The anti abortion at all cost message is reprehensible and the movie is poorly written and like all Twilight movies nothing happens until near the end. Eclipse is still the franchise's best by far.

The trailer looked interesting so yes i sat through this in the theatre.
Unfortunately all of the interesting and almost edge of your seat moments happen toward the last 30 minutes of the movie.Sure there are some fun moments, with intentional and unintentional laughs.Yes i know these films are for the die hard fans who definitely swooned in the audience and obnoxiously blurted out plot twists. But i sat there for the most part waiting for something to happen.
There are some entertaining moments especially when the film enters Rosemary's baby territory, but it sure felt like a lot was edited to keep a PG-13 rating. The Wolves looked a bit more impressive this time around though some of the other SFX looked choppy.
I think i will leave Breaking Dawn part 2 to the die hards.
Scale of 1-10 a 6

I think alot of hate with this movie is the fact it has attractive young men which appeals to young (and probably older) woman. Young men seem offended by it. There are so many movies targeted at males that sexualize woman as nothing but a walking pair ass and lips. How many times have we seen people running around with Megan Fox avatars even though she can't actually act to save herself and every movie she has been in is terrible? Yet when we have a sexualized young attractive male (who are developed and rounded characters by comparsion) people seem to act up. Probably out of insecurity at the nickelodeon boys ripped muscles and young baby face that looks like Selena Gomez if she was a boy. There are far worse things in the world to get angry about.

Most of the women who saw the movie this weekend were over the age of 21. The idea that this is a teen series is just flat out not true.

I have no problem with people bashing the films and disliking them but they should not pretend that this is the first bad film series to make a ****load of cash.

And it's not a ****ing fad. You hating or disliking it doesn't make it a fad.

It's as much a fad as the New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Jonas Bros, Justin Bieber, etc... It's a pop culture thing aimed at girls and will be forgotten when the next franchise grabs their interest.

Saw the movie this weekend with my girlfriend. I just thought it was awful, it was pretty boring throughout, but the scene that killed me was the same as what killed Star Wars Episode 3, when Jacob tells the wolves about the baby knowing what their reaction will be, then is pissed by it and turns on them. It was like when Anakin finds out Palpatine was evil, turns him in, then turns on jedi, it's just ridiculous and bad storytelling. Also why didn't the Cullen's get a restraining order for Jacob, he's prime number 1 candidate for one. Another thing I didn't get is why no one thought it weird that the groom's side of the wedding all had yellow eyes. Why doesn't this raise any eyebrows throughout the series?

The message has been terrible in all the Twilight movies. So, I'm not gonna single this one out. But that being said, I did love the idea of a human getting impregnated by a vampire. I know it has been done before, but this is the first film (that I've seen) where the whole drama is played out.

I think it's a fad. These movies are pretty empty and meaningless, with horrible messages for young girls, i.e your identity is tied to whatever man your with and you are worth nothing without them.

The characters are nothing but empty shells. There's nothing to them, they really don't develop and the mythology is really just a novelty and nothing more. It could have easily be swamp monsters and Yeti's as opposed to Vampires and Werewolves.

I've not read the books (nor do I intend to), but if they are anything like the movies it's no wonder Stephen King ripped Stephanie Meyer so much.

Just because the movies made money, doesn't mean their good (see Transformers). They make money because they have a couple of hot guys and a hot chick, and it's really nothing more than soft porn for teenagers.

BD pt 1 was in particularly bad compared to the others. After all the build up to the sex, it was pretty dissapointing (kinda like real life HA!). I mean they freaking teased about those two getting it on for 3 movies, and now they're all embarassed about it, after the countless publicity shots of Bella and Edward together in bed.

I guess what's sad, is that somwhere in all this mess, I can see the sembalance of what might be a good movie. It's just not this one, and it probably wouldn't have made as much money. What can I say? Sex sells, even bad sex.

The only character I like in any of these movies is the dad. Now you could make a great movie about the dad going out drinking reineer beer and killing vampires. Now that's a movie I'd pay to see.

As for BD pt 1? 3/10

I'm not going to disagree about the quality but they aren't a fad, if they were this last movie would have opened with 75mil instead of 140mil. The fad would have played out by now. If this is a fad then surely the equally vapid and terrible Transformers movies are but I forgot...they aren't directed towards females exclusively so they can't be a fad.

The reason why I'd say Transformers aren't a fad is because they've lasted over 25 years now in different incarnations. The movies are just the latest incarnation of the franchise. A fad can last for 3-4 years, how long were the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync around? However, now that their fad is over, you hear about only one of them and that's because he changed his career path. I'm not knocking the franchise, but Twilight isn't going to stand the test of time like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. Those are true franchises.

I would say Transformers is a fad. People will not remember these movies in years to come. The closest comparision I can make is Independance Day. It made a huge amount of money for the time it came out. Not many people remember or care to remember it some 15 years later.

All I'm saying is Twilight will not be remembered with Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings as great epic novell transcribed to the screen.
