Seeing as the old thread was just recently closed due to it's size I thought I'd start up the new one. Also since it is now Ultimate Comics I updated the title as well. So let's talk Spidey :spidey:

SHH said we could restart this thread, so here it is, appropriately restarted as the series is rebooted!

DISCUSS! :spidey:

D'oh! You beat me to it by a few seconds!!! :wow:

Well, I'll post here. I'm a team player like that!

I loved the first issue. It seemed like a good "return to basics" for the characters. Its going to be interesting seeing what happened in the time since Ultimatum. Gwen is his girl....I'm betting that he and MJ split up due to the fact that she thought Peter was dead, and she didn't want to go through that again...and that was the common thread that he and Gwen needed to go to the next level.

Just maybe.

Damn, I was posting in that old thread from the when it first started up. How time flies....

Anyway, like I posted in the other topic, I loved the first issue.

If done correctly Peter/Gwen should lead to some pretty interesting stories.

This book needs a new artist. Pronto. They need to lure Bagley away from DC so he can come back to drawing this book. Otherwise my money is going elsewhere.

I'm perfectly fine with Lafuente's art. I hope he sticks with the title, the less artists the better.

I find this funny, oddly. Peter and Gwen became closer to each other because they both lived a near-death experience (well, Gwen actually experienced death)? Well, let's wait for the word of Bendis.

I'll be honest, I'm not getting all the hatred for Lafuente's artwork on Spidey. I don't much care for the round M&M head, but Bagley went with a Peanut M&M head, and I prefer regular M&Ms. Um...I had a point...

...oh yeah. His artwork was brilliant! His backgrounds were very well detailed, the characters were easily distinguishable, and the action was VERY kinetic. Do I prefer Immomen? Yeah. He's totally awesome. Lafuente's work really fits with USM, I think, and I hope he gets a chance to grow on everyone else!

That being said, I wish they'd done a different cover. He looks like a small child on it...and it's not very reflective of how the art looks inside. Still, I enjoyed the issue, and the ending was a long time coming. It'll be interesting to see how Spidey handles everything. Also, I think the mysterious hooded character is probably either a) Moon Knight with another new personality or b) Cloak, from Cloak and Dagger...although it'll probably be someone completely different.

haven't picked this up yet but my interests have been piqued

you guys think doc ock will resurface soon?

I hope so and maybe some explanation to his magnetic powers. I really hope Bendis ties up some of the leftover threads from Vol. 1

I haven't read the new issue, and honestly I don't plan on it. But Peter dating Gwen...she's still Carnage, right? That's kinda...weird. Hmmmm.

Gwen has been cleaned of the symbiote, she's now a totally normal teenage girl, and a perfect copy of the first Gwen Stacy, both genetically and mentally. Except for the eyes. Why did Bendis choose to change the eyes?

Well, it is still perfectly clear that Bendis wants us to consider her as the real Gwen Stacy, and not a clone. He has been planning this ever since she died I heard. Makes you wonder why he killed her in the first place.

How long will it takes for Peter and MJ back again? :D

Apparently they can't be happy together in any reality. :csad:

I'm liking the whole Gwen thing right now. Let here have a chance in the spotlight and as Pete's love interest for a while. No need to have a carbon of the 616 Universe.

I feel the same way, i was one of the ones rooting for Kitty when she was dating Peter. I thought they had a good dynamic together plus it was different than the 616. Let's see where this goes.

Maybe I was a little hard on the artwork earlier in the thread. Still though I really don't like the way this guy draws Spider-Man. :o I mean the eyelets are really the only thing that is on the thing! :wow:

Though everything else looks pretty good and I liked Bendis referencing The Beatles with Mysterio there, heh. Maybe I will continue with this book but I don't think I'll ever get used to the way he draws Spider-Man.

Yeah, the Spidey-melon bugs me, but I really dig everything else he does. I guess, as an artist myself, I find it hard to knock another artist unless they are jsut doing a horrendus job on something. Take Humberto Ramos; I HATE the way he draws people, and I probably wouldn't buy anything he was drawing, but his backgrounds, layouts, and knack for action and composition are tops.

Lafuente may not draw my favorite Spidey, but his characters, backgrounds, layouts, and such are all spot-on.

I enjoyed the first issue very much. The art doesn't bother me, but it's def. different from Bagley and Immomen. I'm excited about the Peter/Gwen relationship, but it'll be interesting to see how Pete and MJ interact once we seem them at school/in public. I like that Mysterio comes off like a major player. He always seemed like a "prank" kinda villian in most stuff I've seen/read.
