I'll be honest...I never really got the whole fanfiction thing.

see....even Sailor doesn't get it, that should give you all a ****ing hint

You've never imagined the characters from something you like in an original story? Or in the case of 95% of all fan fiction, you've never imagined yourself inserted into your favorite franchise?

Pretty much.

no....because I'm not a self indulgent ******* with low self esteem to the point where I need to ram myself into a fantasy life

....don't like your ****** life, sitting at home in your PJs writing about a circle jerk with Spider-Man and Reed Richards isn't going to make your life better...maybe if you spent that three hours it took writing that story to maybe take a class or get some exercise or maybe just go out and talk to real live people, your life might not suck so bad

Sure, but I hope to break into comics and think of those as stories I'd like to tell. I've also never really written them down in mass or anything on a website or whatever. Though, on the other point, I can honestly say I've never really wanted to insert myself into the fiction. I can see the appeal to it, but it's not something I think I'd really do.

:word:

I tried that once. Made a sweet Doctor Midnight. They yelled at me for getting details wrong.
Most of the time (at least in the Ultimate DC RPG) we're pretty good about being polite and trying to be helpful to newcomers. And since it's the Ultimate universe, most of the details can be fudged quite a bit. Our Dr. Destiny might end up being a woman, for instance. And we're only in our second season in that game, so there's not much continuity behind it at the moment.

Of course, details can be a lot stricter in the non-Ultimate DC RPG, where it actually is based on the comics and has quite a few seasons under its belt, so there's a ton of continuity and it can be frustrating (or at least it was back when I played in it) when a player deviates from that. For example, one of the guys who used to play the Flash suddenly gave Wally the power to teleport.

I'll show you a waste of 3 hours, sir!

*opens Word and writes about Reed Richards & Spider-Man giving each other handies*

Don't you play fantasy football? Isn't that basically the same kind of thing

Is it part of the Facebook chat thingy? I'm always set to Offline, so I'm not seeing any group chat.

Yeah, I'm always offline cuz people only messaged me when I was in the middle of something else(not porn)

It was fun talking to all those strangers for 15 minutes.

not when there is money involved.....and it's based on an actual thing happening....

Fantasy sports are now a multi million dollar a year industry and are pretty much endorsed by their respective leagues

Well, despite how you justify it, still seems like playing a fantasy game with your favorite teams outside the actual "canon" of football to me. Is there more to it than that?

again...fantasy sports ARE endorsed by their respective leagues....guys that play in the NFL play fantasy football among themselves and with people in their organization

Yeah...I got that, but so what? Does that alone elevate it beyond what it is? If Dan Didio and Joey Q gave their nod towards fanfic, and showed some of their own, would it mean that's instantly elevated to okay status? I'm just trying hard to understand where the actual dividing line here is, or if this is just another of those, whatever you call them, 'hopeful hypocritical' situations.
