AI was a very good movie. I would have liked it a million times better if they didn't have the tacked on happy ending...but I digress.
The ending to me wasn't all puppies and ice cream.

David gets his wish but ultimately you realize how futile his journey was and how human nature was incapable of giving him the basic unconditional love he desperately hungered for and defined his very existence.

These evolved machines are far more thoughtful and compassionate than humans ever were. And when the movie's over we have to live with that fact and continue our journey that's more like David's quest to be loved than we want to admit.

Very insightful. For the record, I like A.I. but I would never call it a "cerebral masterpiece". It's a pretty decent flick, but who knows how good it could've been under Kubrick.

I'm curious if someone, anyone, can explain the difference in the emotion in Transformers compared to say Armageddon another Bay film. Mainly referring to the scene with Liv Tyler and Bruce Willis saying their goodbyes.
The scene from Armageddon made people cry, the scenes from Transformers didn't.

That all depends on if he would have stuck with the same script and not changed anything around as he is directing, which some directors like to do. I remember when that was being made/released so many people were saying "Never let a Spielberg do a Kubrick job" :whatever: . Personally I always found Kubrick to be a little overrated.

Yeah, I think people forget that Spielberg is more than summer blockbusters.

That's my point, why do people knock him for lack of emotion in his movies and then a lot of the same people are now saying that Transformers didn't feel like a Bay film because it had emotion. If from what you said is true, then technically he had better emotion in Armageddon which so many people call typical Bay crap. Don't get me wrong, I liked Transformers a lot but this threw me off.

I don't know. Personally I don't particularly understand the hate on Transformers. What I do know is that Spielberg directed Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, and that ET made me cry when I was a kid.

Well I'm one of the few people who feel it's terribly underrated. I realize I'm in the minority though.

It explores the human condition in ways most sci-fi movies don't. It gets right at the dirty honest truth about the human drive for love, sex, and family. And it ain't pretty.

I don't get it, are a lot of people now eating crow?? In relation to what I had asked.

Well some say when Bay creates a contrived scenario to evoke an emotional response from the audience he's being manipulative. But when other directors make tear jerkers they get a free pass.

So people have a double standard for Bay. But then again his movies sometimes show contempt for the audience. I just happen to think Transformers isn't one of those movies.

and if Transformers brought adults to tears, the word pretentious would come up 10 times in every TF review. :whatever:

PM me your paypal info and I'll send you the money. Fair is fair.

Thanks, that is basically the answer I was looking for. So in other words he wasn't exactly playing dumb to his audience with Transformers in emotional scenes as he might have done in the past.

It sure didn't feel as shoved in your face as it does in Armageddon.

Emotion??? How about the scene where sector 7 is capturing BB, sam goes after some sector 7 knocks the guy to the floor, PLUS the music. Gezzz thats emotional to me jeje

LOL

Well I'll be a monkey's bare-assed uncle.

So sorry, Ragdus. :csad: :csad: :csad:

But, if it helps you feel any better... I threw both movies out there as examples of what certain "sci-fi" fans would consider good sci-fi. The other movie I gave in that example, would not appear in any of my personal lists of movies. But, of course, the point was missed.

LOL hey no problem. I didn't have to mount such a staunch defense. Sometimes we all eat some crow man.

I still think you're getting unfairly singled out, but that doesn't save me $100 :-P

Meh...just send him the special edition of AI and call it a day.

well i loved it and certainly wasnt expecting too....i suppose i got the opposite of this than what someone like Cflash got...even though i basically agreed with all his arguments against the film prior to release.
but this movie rocked my world...silly faults and all....really, look back at the g1 cartoon, and compare it to this....G1 had faults and cheesiness and dumbness galore.. but the characters rocked, and i got the same vibe out of this movie...
normally i am not a fan of big dumb hollywood blockbusters...[although i have a soft spot for superhero and comic films]. but this was so damn entertaining...
my fave movies of the past year.
children of men.
the departed.
pans labyrinth.
transformers.

For what it's worth, I liked AI also.

I would have gone for Blade Runner or Alien though :D
