The ending to me wasn't all puppies and ice cream.AI was a very good movie. I would have liked it a million times better if they didn't have the tacked on happy ending...but I digress.
David gets his wish but ultimately you realize how futile his journey was and how human nature was incapable of giving him the basic unconditional love he desperately hungered for and defined his very existence.
These evolved machines are far more thoughtful and compassionate than humans ever were. And when the movie's over we have to live with that fact and continue our journey that's more like David's quest to be loved than we want to admit.

. Personally I always found Kubrick to be a little overrated.
If from what you said is true, then technically he had better emotion in Armageddon which so many people call typical Bay crap. Don't get me wrong, I liked Transformers a lot but this threw me off.
