Is it really that difficult to add a little development to the TF's? Back story events and stuff?

What Transformers were you watching?

The Transformers I was watching gave me enough details on the main characters and gave me enough story that I could understand.

Maybe I'm just not an idiot who needs to be explained "differently".

Just saw this yesterday and thought it was amazing, yeah it had faults, but it is definately the best rollercoaster ride so far this year.

I thought the Autobots were amazing, and i could easily tell which one was which during the movie and i genuinly felt sorry for Jazz at the end, as i liked him along with all the other Autobots.

The Decepticons were a mixed bag however, we only really got to know Megatron and Frenzy, the others we barely got to know at all.

And even though the action was amazing, i thought all of the fights were WAY too short, especially Megatron vs Prime, that should have lasted a lot longer and we should have seen more of it. I understand the fact that we need to see what the humans are doing, but, please, in any sequel, show the full robot fights as well. I wanted to see how Prime did against Megatron after initially getting a beating, and i wanted to see how Bumblebee subdued Barricade. I also thought it was a bit strange that the Deceptacons seemed a lot stronger and more powerful than the Autobots.

LeBeouf was great though, and i enjoyed Fox's perfromance (as well as her looks of course, she is truly stunning), Both of those NEED to come back for a sequel, and i ended up liking the soldiers a lot more than i initially thought i would, they really got involved in the 3rd act and it made me care for them more. The older actors, like Voight and Tuturro were the one's I least cared about, and i found most of their scene's (when Lebeouf or Fox wasnt involved) quite boring and stale.

I rate this 9/10 as it was a great rollercoaster ride, but please, let us see the full fights in the sequel.

I just came back from watching 'Transformers' and... oh man! It was great! This is exactly what I like when I go to the cinema, the frenetic action. Michael Bay may not be the best director ever, but he surely knows how to make AN ACTION MOVIE.

Beleive it or not, I really liked what Bay did to the movie. He really brought the transformers in a realistic world. I beleive that if he used used a blocky type (ALA G1) robots it will just look like a glorified Power rangers show-yeah the robots in those shows. That wouldn't look good. The robots are so detailed. I've always wondered how they are going to do the mouth? Will it look like liquid crystal, like T2, or almost a cgi beast wars? But even the mouth was done right in the movie. It consist of different small part not just liquid crystal, and they can even show different emotion. Incredible! That was an awesome job. The robots looks flawless, they look so real, and i've seen it 5Xs. It looks like there was a lot of love and care putting this movie together. Thanks to Mr. Bay & Spielberg.

TRANSFORMERS

Transformers(Details here),based on the hit cartoon series of the eighties, claims to be a spectacular action film that pleases fans, which is always a hard task. After a string of poor movies over this summer, there is a need for the vacuum to be filled, which Transformers just about manages.

Coming to Earth in search of the ‘Allspark cube’, two groups of living transforming robots battle each other in order to obtain it. The Autobots trying to preserve the world and human life, the Decepticons wish to harness the power to destroy and conquer.

Obviously special effects are the focus for this film, and they are most impressive indeed, blending computer graphics with specially made robotic models to create a more realistic set of effects. However the direction only capitalises on this in a few money shots, the rest of the time, the effects are wasted with shaky camera work and blurred images.

Performances are nothing special, east actor is type cast in a role they have always played. The writing has some appropriate comedic elements, then some which are very out of place. Drama comes and goes, but fails to give much of a lasting impression and fails to recognise possible opportunities for making something much more.

The films continues too long after it’s climax, and reduces the last half hour into nothing more than a special effects showcase without any heart or soul. Editing and camera work show no real ambition or great talent.

Overall, Transformers is a decent adaptation, and whilst disgustingly cliché from the outset, with a multitude of terrible characters, there are several saving graces littered throughout the film. It’s not a good film, but okay, and better than the previous ‘summer blockbusters’. A must see for fans of the cartoon.

Wow, just saw this yesterday and and the film was really a big nothing movie.

Optimus Prime, they kinda got him, Megatron and Starscream a little too, but generally the TF's were not anything like the original generation one Transformers, in appearence or character.

The sfx were cool, but why the overly complex transformations?
It just looked totally unfeasable. That was the cool thing about the original series, you could see how everything transformed and fitted together. The transformations in this film just looked ott and implausable.

The story/script was crap too. I did not care about the humans so why was the film all about them w/ Transformers inc. It should have been the other way round. A Transformers film w/ a small human element.

Anyway I am very surprised that so many posters here rated this so highly.
It was very average and soulless film, but then it is Michael Bay- director of other acclaimed suckfests such as Pearl Harbour.
Nuff said.

It goes without saying that Tranformers the movie craps on this new film from an IMMENSE height.

I know some of you grew up with the movie but come on....be a LITTLE objective about it....jesus...i dont think there is any non-TF fan that likes it...SW rippoff for money,nothing more.

That WAS the objective of the movie,to bring it to the masses and if most of the die-hards made it,it would've flop and it would've been watched by no one except the 324 die hards just like the 1986 movie which flopped hard too.

I'm not saying it's perfect but it did exactly what SP1 did...introduce the characters without going to far and make the pavement for even a better sequel

Nope i'm very happy with the movie,it's a huge success,it probably will win an sfx oscar and a sequel is on the way...so my feelings are just fine

you on the other hand go watch the planet-transformer that eats other planets...that's feasable.

Seriously i like the cartoon for what it is...but i'm constanly amazed by the people who see some deep philosophical meanings behind it,when in reality it's just wishfull thinking.

I just recently rewatched the first 2 seasons and the animated movie and i coudnt watch a single episode without thinking my brain is dying...there are 30 plot holes in every episode let alone the whole seasons as a whole...new characters are just thrown in for the sake of it (to sell more toys of course) without any explanation...and the worst of all,how do we make a new toy line?Make a movie kill the characters even though they were shooting at each other for 2 seasons without any damage and introduce the new ones.

I respect anyones oppinion greatly and if you dont like the movie fine...but when you compare the movies and act as if the 1986 one is kind of art,some kind of astonishing piece of work...it's very silly

The transformations in the new film were overley complex just for the sake of it. It looked like bollocks too me.
In other words,- if the human eye can not trace the anatomy of how the transformations work, then the sfx guys may as well just make up whatever they want for the transformation sequences because it would not matter if the robot to car forms actually fitted together or not. That's what it seems like they did to me.

I don't expect you have seen Transformers Armada, well anyway designs similar to those featured on Armada would have proved much more believable and satisfying to watch from the pov of someone who actually likes to be able to understand how they transform from one form to another.

So there might be some plot holes in the first two seasons of Transformers..., there are plot holes in the new film also, what is your point? The difference is that original show and movie were entertaining and had a soul, by comparrisson the new film is a soulless and often tideous sfx showcase. I never said the original film was astonishing, but it is a great film and FAR superior to the new flick.

Ok, as much as I like the original Movie, I can't see how it could be called art. Sounds to me like a heavy case of nostalgia and bias. Come on, half the old cast gets killed off, mostly annyoing characters get introduced. They travel across the galaxy to fight against a metal kraken, land on some trash planet with TV talking maniacs, etc.

Ok,you're not biased at all so you win the debate....a 90 minute toy commercial is better then a movie that made the same toy commercial look as real and plauseble as is probably possible considering the source? If you say so.

The thing is the 2007 movie is a LOT better cause it made people care about TF ...the 1986 movie made them laugh when the idea of motion picture came.

You can say whatever you want...but the general audiences and the non-biased fans love the movie and are anticipating the sequels and it made a lot of money not because of the Sfx...Superman Returns has good Sfx,so did X-Men 3 but they didnt made even half the money that TF makes because it presented the idea of a serious movie about TF with humor,action and some drama...the Sfx are of course neceserry but even SP3 had more Sfx then TF.

The 1986 one was purelly a SW idea with Unicron as the Death Star,Hot Rod as Luke Skywalker that was made only to make profit and nothing else but it didnt even manage to do that so...

The cartoon would cheat just as much as the new Movie. Parts of the Transformer would simply shrink or grow in size, fit into impossible places or simply vanish.

the cartoon movie was definatetly better, it's not the masterpiece people think it is, but it's still alright. The live action TF film was not a greadt film at all, it had moments, but there was no consequentialism or anything, it felt like they didn't care about the drama, just the action.

We see one of the good guy transformers ripped apart, and we barely notice it really, however inthe cartoon, the loss of a companion has some resonance.

For a cartoon thought, that's pretty big, however in a live action film, you kind of deserve more emotion etc.

I thought the emotion was there. Sure, there practically wasn't any when Jazz died, but there was quite a lot of it there between Bumblebee and Sam. For instance when BB got captured or lost his legs and Sam started to tear up.
