I do wish they stretched out Bane's story more to make him just a tad more complex. The part where he was tearing up during Talia's moment showed vulnrability that I wish was explored more in terms of his past, his passions, and what motivates his ideals. All of the characters and villians in the Nolanverse have had ideals that have motivated them - with the guise of a mask, also Nolanesque in and of itself. Batman is a mask/symbol, Dr. Crane, the Joker and his make up which emphaiszes his scars, Bane's, and Ra's dual-persona trickery. So that being said, there was a greater potentiality for Bane's backstory whcih highlighted his motivations, and ideals. Sure, we didn't get that, but the Joker is an enigma in essence, an absurdity by nature, and a natural trickster; as he said inthe Killing Joke, he could be a bit of all three stories he tells people. So, in terms of villian, as hte Joker was always unpredictable, resiliant, and so on, he was the best villian. Second goes to Ra's, Two-Face, and Salina - although I hate rankings , they're so entirely too structural and institutional! >.<
