Perhaps Hannibal in Silence or Darth Vader in ESB. That's really about all I can think of.

The Joker. He was the most interesting, most visually appealing fully decked out in his purple suit, white face, cut smile, and green hair. Ledger vanished into the role and created a psychopathic monster who was endlessly entertaining. His screen time was perfection. Not over used or under used.

Its Joker for me, as good as Bane is there is a reason the Joker is the greatest comic book villain of all time and we saw it in TDK

I just rewatched TDK tonight and man... I can't deny, as much as I'm stoked for TDKR I still think that character will be the pinnacle of the trilogy, the performance is just too good. R.I.P Heath.

Maroni kicked major BUTTOCKS. I like Eric Roberts as an actor tho.

And as far as badasses go? Crane/Scarecrow OWNED that s**t. He was able to turn psycho/hallucinogenic spraying sociopath/masked terrorizer on and off like a friggin LIGHT SWITCH.

SCARECROW FOR THE WIN. The sole survivor of the trilogy.

I do wish they stretched out Bane's story more to make him just a tad more complex. The part where he was tearing up during Talia's moment showed vulnrability that I wish was explored more in terms of his past, his passions, and what motivates his ideals. All of the characters and villians in the Nolanverse have had ideals that have motivated them - with the guise of a mask, also Nolanesque in and of itself. Batman is a mask/symbol, Dr. Crane, the Joker and his make up which emphaiszes his scars, Bane's, and Ra's dual-persona trickery. So that being said, there was a greater potentiality for Bane's backstory whcih highlighted his motivations, and ideals. Sure, we didn't get that, but the Joker is an enigma in essence, an absurdity by nature, and a natural trickster; as he said inthe Killing Joke, he could be a bit of all three stories he tells people. So, in terms of villian, as hte Joker was always unpredictable, resiliant, and so on, he was the best villian. Second goes to Ra's, Two-Face, and Salina - although I hate rankings , they're so entirely too structural and institutional! >.<

Joker still holds my love and admiration for being the most entertaining villain in this franchise. He was captivating and unpredictable and I couldn't wait for his next scene to unfold. Great performance by Ledger.

Anne's Selina/Catwoman is my hands down favourite.

^ I'm surprised you think she's a villain, AnneFan, given your username.

Way back when the first TDKR press release came out, I was one of the few people who was adamant that Selina Kyle/Catwoman ought not to be thought of as being one of the film's villains, and I can now unequivocally say that I was 100% correct in my initial assessment.

Yes, she had allied herself with Daggett (and, by extension, Bane) and led Bruce/Batman into a trap, but those actions do not make her a villain; they make her an ANTAGONIST (and no, villains and antagonists are not the same thing).

To illustrate my point about villains and antagonists being different, let's consider Severus Snape. He spent the large majority of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series - both in film and in print - as an antagonist, but was revealed to be anything but a villain, and the situation is similar with Selena Kyle/Catwoman in this film. None of the actions she takes in this film are, in and of themselves, villainous, although they are certainly morally questionable (as were many of Snape's actions).

Anyway, I digress. I personally wouldn't have considered Falcone and Maroni as eligible for this poll, and won't be considering them in my answer, so here's how I'd rank the trilogy's villains:
1. Ras al Ghul
2. The Joker
3. Bane & Miranda Tate (tie)
4. The Scarecrow

She's in the poll therefore I voted for her. I wouldn't classify her as a 'villain' either, but out of all the characters, she is my favourite.

^ Why would you vote for her as a villain - even though she isn't one - simply because the OP erroneously included her in their poll? That makes no sense whatsoever.

The Joker, his intentions were never clear, he just wanted 'to watch the world burn'

I'm looking at this poll as favourite characters out of all the ones listed. It's nothing to get upset over or make a big deal about. I simply liked Catwoman over Ras, Scarecrow, Bane etc and I have stated as such.

AnneFan: Treating the poll and this discussion as something other than what it is - a discussion and poll about the trilogy's villains - makes even less sense than voting for Catwoman as your favorite villain even though she isn't one.

Selina was in fact my favorite character from the movie, but just because she's my favorite character from the film doesn't mean that I'd vote for her as my favorite villain because she isn't one.

Sorry if I offended you, DigificWriter.

I am well aware that Catwoman isn't a villain, so perhaps my enthusiasm for the character is too great.

I feel Catwoman is more of a redemptive villain. She was a villain who became a hero, which, in my opinion, can make for a really interesting character. It's a gray area, which is tricky to categorize.

TDKR SPOILERS
The Joker
Two-Face
Bane
Ra's al Ghul
Scarecrow

Talia al Ghul

You didn't offend me; I'm just confused as to your thought process. :)

My thoughts exactly. She was my favorite part of this movie and would her right behind the Joker as just great overall character.

Of the villains though
The Joker
Bane
The Scarecrow

This.

On the poll, I voted for Ras Al Ghuk, through Catwoman.

Joker for me hands down! Any of the other heroes were either scary, or powerful, or knew alot of things about Bruce, but with Joker we got the polar opposite of Batman, the Yin to his Yang, the only villain that truly understood Batman, and the one who got the most decisive victory over him. In short: WE GOT THE ARCH-NEMESIS

The Joker / Bane
Ra's al ghul
catwoman
scarecrow

all others were either meh, or forgettable.

Joker
Bane
Two-Face
Ra's al Ghul
Scarecrow
Talia al Ghul

I'm not counting the mob or Catwoman though.
