this is the first 3D movie for them. hmmm interesting. i dont think i read if they filmed with 3D cameras.

Yes, it was filmed in 3D. It will be interesting to watch the trailer in 3D when I go to see Horbbit 2.

Pacific Rim made more than 4.07M worldwide, it broke even. It's not like only money from American Boxoffice counts.

breaking even's only a goal when you're in the hole.

is it just me or is this the least convincing, most underwhelming end-trailer yell in ages, courtesy of Tatum? instead of "JUPITER!!!!" you get something more like "Jupiter..."

True...In most cases.
However....Pacific Rim :csad:

You forgot The Conjuring, which WB released a week after. Its profit:cost ratio was pretty much what WB was hoping Pacific Rim would get. Even with PR underperforming, The Conjuring made up for it.

I think people have different ways of expressing feelings. For example, some people cried loud when then lost someone dear to them, some people remained silent. The same thing here. So the cry has to be loud to be convincing? Just for the sake of being dramatic?

no, of course not, i'm just saying this yell doesn't achieve the desired effect the trailer is going for. for all i know this shot is actually from a scene in the movie where Tatum's basically saying whatup to Jupiter from across the room.

I have a theory why we root for Channing:

He's like the jock who wants to become an opera singer. It's weird because he has the right looks of a typical American actor, but there's many of them so who does one stand out? It seems that Channing is aware of that, so it does seems like he is pushing himself to be..more then what he is sometimes. And I think people admire that. If you look at his resume, he has done many indie movies.

Any other actor of his caliber would've been stuck doing dance movies all their life, but not Channing.

That's my thought on him. You can crack jokes about the dude, but he's not an idiot. He knows he has to do certain flicks to pay the bills but he genuinely does want to branch out and do better work. If anything you should want him to do better as opposed to "he's taking roles from guys who can REALLY act."

I'll also add that he was really solid in Side Effects, for the small amount he was in that film.

I like Tatum in comedies and I'm fine with him in supporting roles in dramas from what I've seen but lead action hero Tatum just isn't working for me. I definitely do not hate him though.

yeah, i like him fine, i just didn't like him in this trailer. but that's not much to go off of.

Jupiter Ascending is IMO a movie that the Wachowski made to get some money for their small movies. yes i think in their mind this is a movie for the masses.
they said no to all the comicbook movies because they need some freedom to have some weird characters in weird suits. i like it......i f.... like it. after the SPeed racer bomb they still say NO to hollywood.

so i dont have a problem with this movie.

Yeah, he was pretty good in that, but the part mostly called for him to just look stupid and act confused.

really? I think the scene of Jenko writing all those chemical formula (?) on the blackboard after taking drugs requires more than that.

I think there is this prejudice against Tatum because his look and his lack of experience. And some people are too biased to notice that he has been improving over the years. Bashing and mocking Tatum is becoming a habit for some, which is unfair. In this video Tatum addressed the hate thrown at him. I am glad he didn't give up just because some people think he sucks in what he is doing.

How is it prejudice? He just isn't that good at acting. Do you have to be the equivalent of Uwe Boll for people to acknowledge that you aren't good at something? It reminds me of those that try and defend the musical talents of Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift.

In many forums, when some people first heard the news about the casting of Channing Tatum, they would immediately claimed that he would ruin the movie. This is the prejudice I am talking about. It is only fair to judge anyone's performance in one movie after you actually see the complete movie (not just a teaser trailer).

Also many actors aren't that good when they started their career, such as Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. If they stick around for long enough, they will improve. I just don't think Tatum in 2013 is as bad as some people try to make him to be. Maybe give your memory a update? What is the last Tatum movie you actually watch?

No one his judging his performance. We just see the trailer, have watched him in the past and forming an opinion. What is wrong with that? I understand that the results might be different in the final film, but given the track record of actors, why can't people have preconceived notions, an opinion on their skill? You might be wrong, but the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. It is why fans get excited for Nolan, Edgar Wright or Scorsese films before they ever see a single frame. Because of their past work, they feel like they will be getting something they will enjoy. It is also the same reasoning for why most people don't go to the theater to see Uwe Boll films.

Also there is a big difference between bashing and actor, and forming an opinion on them. I agree, general bashing for bashing sake is ridiculous and completely pointless. It serves no one.

And the last Tatum filmed I watched was "White House Down". Bad movie, but I liked him in it.

Watched the trailer for this a couple days ago and couldn't help but notice that the acting looks phoned in by Kunis and Tatum.
