It really bothers me that when Star Wars, Avatar, Transformers, etc make a ton of money we have people dismissing Jupiter Ascending because elf ears are so weird.

That isn't why people are dismissing this and you know it. They are dismissing it because it looks bad. The leads look beyond out of place, and the general design aesthetic looks like it was designed by a 12 year old anime fan. Some of it is cool, some of it doesn't work at all.

Complete nonsense, you can do better.

The leads, based on the trailer, are completely fine.

The aesthetic indeed looks like it's partly inspired by Japanese comic books ... OH MY GOD that's so much worse than American comic books !!!

Oh wait no it's not. We can only wish Hollywood respected anime as much as it respects Transformers and Captain America.

Meanwhile, a lot of the same people rejecting the prospect of trying out a new style are excited about seeing X-Wings fly over water brought to you by the hack director of Star Trek into Darkness, Jar Jar Abrams.

Seeing X-Wings fly over the water got me ten times more excited than anything I've seen from Jupiter Ascending.

It doesn't look bad though. It just became the cool thing to hate on.

If instead of Jupiter Ascending at the end of a trailer if it had like a marvel or starwars label it would be eaten up.

You are entitled to your opinion, but the leads look ridiculous to me and many others here. It is not like I dislike either of them, so why would I make that up? I love the Matrix and am a big fan of Speed Racer. I have watched plenty of anime in my life, still do. I have no reason to hate this.

Japanese comics and anime are just like American ones. Which is why over here we don't take the look and designs whole cloth from the comics. It is why we talk about adapting characters and the material. That includes Cap.

And you are damn right I love the X-Wings over the water. It is frackin' beautiful.

By the way, who exactly respects the Transformers films?

Wah why don't people love a goofy looking film from one hit wonders?! Wah!

Yeah, no. The aesthetics of Star Wars and Marvel are nothing like this disaster. Not GotG, not even the prequels. No one would be "eating this up" just with those labels. But I guess it is those on this board who are wrong. Can't imagine why WB moved it if looks great to them and test audiences.

By the way, you are entitled to like it. You can say it looks great. But you and Champion have no right to tell others how and why they feel the way they do about it. It is the height of arrogance.

The movie doesn't look bad at all though. The directors are a different story.

I just don't understand how people say it looks garbage based on the trailers or the tv spots, because it doesn't.

Saying its gonna be garbage based on the screen writers, directors, and stars makes more sense.

Im probably not even going to see the movie when it comes to dvd but I just find it funny that people like to jump on a hate bandwagon.

If the film is premiering at Sundance, maybe it's not all bad.

That's a lie though and you know thats a lie lol

And when did I ever tell others how and why to feel the way the feel? What are you talking about?

Im done talking about this movie though

What part of calling it the cool thing to hate and saying that if it was labelled as something else people would like it? How is that not expressly telling people how and why they feel the way they do about this film?

I can't wait to see this. I'm still a huge fan of the Wachowskis. The structure of Cloud Atlas is amazing; great editing. I've always said that people would've been drooling over Speed Racer if a company like Pixar released it.

I read somewhere that the Matrix sequels changed a lot during production. I'm very curious about that.

I'll probably say yes.

I really, really like Speed Racer. But I am curious why you'd think if Pixar released it people would love it. After all they don't do live action and have never made a film anything like it. Not even the mediocre Cars films.

The Wachowskis never lost it.

People lost the Wachowskis.

Take a look through the Wachowskis' back catalogue (i.e. Bound, The Matrix) and their unproduced scripts (i.e. Carnivore, Plastic Man, even their original script for Assassins) and you'll see that the Wachowskis write mainstream entertainments with terrifying ease and deftness.

In 1999, people were ready for The Matrix, which had robots and kung fu and just enough philosophical noodling to make hipster teens feel cool.

Then, in 2003, instead of giving audiences Matrix 2: Matrix Harder and Matrix 3: Matrix with a Vengeance, the Wachowskis had the audacity to thematically and aesthetically deconstruct their beloved original with the first sequel. Then they turned around and did it again with the second.

People were pissed.

The Wachowskis restored some good will with their screenplay for V for Vendetta in 2005. But they pissed us off again in 2008 when the cyber-noir duo inaugurated their long-awaited return to directing with an unflinchingly cheesy live action cartoon in Speed Racer.

Ignoring the fact that Speed Racer was, in fact, a scathing critique of the film industry disguised as a candy-coloured cartoon, irritated audiences were then confronted in 2012 with Cloud Atlas – a film that did the first thing filmmakers are taught not to do: mix tones. Let alone six different ones over a period of nearly three hours.

This isn't the filmography of filmmakers going, "Oops, we did it again!"

It's the filmography of filmmakers going, "Catch us if you can!"

Some of us are clinging on by our fingernails and loving the ride. Others have just exited the chase completely.

That ride might not last long if this film tanks. I like their ambition , but they may lose the financing on dream projects if they don't produce another hit. Maybe they should do a more popular comic film after this.

Pixar essentially did make a live action film, it was called "John Carter." Spoiler alert, most people didn't love that film.

Maybe the Wachowskis can repackage their script and concept art for Jupiter Ascending 2 into a Star Wars stand alone film should this film fail.

After all, wasn't Independence Day just the sequel to.Stargate?

Oh, I just meant if it was Pixar movie or something along those lines (brand name, I guess), it'd be embraced as a family classic or just a classic in general. Just my 2 cents. It's such a cool movie.

And don't get me started on John Carter. I dug the hell out of that too. :csad:

No one has ever in the history of ever jumped on a bandwagon? Nothing has ever been hated on more than it deserved? Nothing has ever been over hyped based on past goodwill?

Stop it.

No where did I ever tell anyone they should like this movie that Im not even going to watch. I never said you hopped on the hate bandwagon or singled out anyone else. Youre just trying to start an argument now and its silly.
