For me, art is really important when determining whether or not I'll pick up a book. Lucky for them, the art is decent enough without the color. I just think it would have made it look even better. :)

The B&W aspect of the book actually got me more interested in it. It just fits the story better, I feel.

Dammit, now I need to get book six already.

Drive up to the Borders in Wareham, Massachusetts. They have at least two of 'em. :D It's only an 8 hour drive, more or less. :p

My only complaint about the book is that it's not in color. :( I'm not used to so much grey scale since I don't read manga books.

See I'm the opposite. I've been reading the Marvel Essentials collections for so long that color seems to distract me.

I love art and the more vibrant the color the better. Best mini I ever read was Kiliian's Tide from the Fathom series. Every page had such rich and contrasting color I just wanted to cry with joy. :p Somebody put a lot of thought into what the book should look like.

Cant really see TWD being in "vibrant" color. Just wouldnt fit the grim and gritty nature. Even the show is shot in such a way that the pallette is pretty dark and washed out. (except for the pre-zombie portion of the premiere)

alexdunn has been doing a fantastic job of coloring the book....

I've decided I'm going to attempt to color the entire first issue of The Walking Dead. Here's page one:

Page 2 in glorious technicolor!:

I gotta say, although I like how these are coming out, The Walking Dead is really meant for black and white. It looks way better.

By the way, here's page 3 and 4 of The Walking Dead in COLOR:

Here is page 5

The next one is a doozy.

I dunno, I think black and white or extremely limited color palettes can be far more amazing than color.. you just need someone who really knows what they are doing with it.

Mark Schultz, for example, of Xenozoic Tales:

Moore's not too shabby himself..

Never really cared for Adlard's artwork though.. thankfully the story was more than enough to keep me going.

Those are fantastic colorings, but I still prefer the black & white. It just works best with the sparse nature of the series.

I see colorings like this as the alternate takes. Sort of like Darabont wanting to put a black & white version of the pilot on the DVD release.

The Walking Dead is nominated for Best Television Drama at the Golden Globes this year!!

This is really good news for the show. I did expect The Walking Dead to get some "Best New Television Drama" nominations from some of the smaller award ceremonies, but to get a Golden Globe nomination, not for "Best NEW Television Drama" but "Best Television Drama" as a whole, on the back of just 6 episodes, is very impressive.

I don't think it will win, though. Season 4 of Mad Men was the best the show has produced so far, and I hear Boardwalk Empire is amazing. But just to get a nomination alongside all these critical darlings is a good sign of genre TV getting some recognition.

Yeeeeeeeuh, thanks dude. that reminds me, I have to post the next page. I can't right now, I'm at a school computer, but I'll do it when I get home. I haven't had time to keep going, but I hope to finish issue one eventually.

I don't know. As much as I like the show, I don't feel like it's fully taken shape yet. We're dealing with a show that's been on for slightly less than half a cable season. We haven't really done THAT much with the characters when all is said and done. They haven't really been as broken down to their core as it may seem. I think the end of the finale was the only true moment of them all realizing just how bad things are, even more so than the camp attack. But that's really it.

There have been some great moments, and I definitely recommend the show to people, but nominating now is a bit premature. It's a bit of a tease, 'cause there's no conceivable chance of it winning. Not because it's a genre show, but because it really hasn't given us nearly as much to go on as far as how it'll endure. There's every likelihood that the show could go to s**t next season. If Heroes taught us anything, it's that you can go from being a critical darling to being "marked for death" in the blink of an eye.

Those pages look great! :D Wish the whole series was like that.

How did Sons of Anarchy not make the year's best list? That show is the greatest.

How the hell was Justified not on that list? Justified and TWD are two of my favorite shows, right up with Burn Notice.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA.

Okay I'm done.

Alexdunn, nice coloring. What do you use, photoshop? It's sick.

Nice job with the coloring but as you can see it really changes the dynamic the comic goes for. In color it has a pop art look but it works best with its more somber black and grays to match the atmosphere that's presented.

So they are trying to charge 40dollars for S1...better drop that down to 20.

$40 for 6 episodes? lmfao they better have a lotta awesome extra features and cast/director/writer commentary for every one.
