The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 3 "Thank You" Discussion Thread

Wow, I thought this was a great episode.

Michonne's speech and interactions with Heath about his distrust about her only looking out for her own people and not all of Alexandria was really well done. Especially when it pays off later in understanding what it's like to be on the outside.

The foreshadowing with Glenn looking at the watch and calling Rick a dumbass in the callback to Atlanta, he knew what he was doing was a practical suicide mission. I was wondering how Glenn and Nicholas were going to get out of that situation, or if a new character was going to swoop in for the save. I did think for a moment that the walkers were going to push the dumpster towards the building and they would escape to the roof.

Now, is Glenn alive or dead? Talking Dead had a statement that makes it seem he is alive and they didn't have him in the Memorium they always do. Clues in the actual episode are the way it was shot and what the episode as well as previous episodes have established to getting eaten by multiple walkers. Firstly, the two deaths earlier in the episode showed their gruesome demise and they were spitting out blood. Glenn wasn't spitting out blood, Nicholas and him were wearing the same looking outfits, and Nicholas fell on top of him. Plus when Glenn raises his head screaming, the height of his "chest" doesn't line up with his neck.

So I'm in two trains of thought with this one, it seems too obvious that he's alive and if he comes out unscathed, then they really shouldn't have put him in that kind of scenario where the odds are that overwhelming. Maybe they should have had them find a way into the building, Nicholas offs himself when they're holding fort, and last scene is Glenn fleeing inside of the building in order to find a way out. I don't know. I won't mind if he's alive either, Glenn has been Houdini throughout the entire series, so he can escape this.

If he's dead, logically there might not be anything left of him due to the sheer amount of walkers, but if he does turn I hope they have Maggie find him and do what Carol did in the comics.

I really liked how this entire scenario played out with Rick in the RV. He convinces Daryl to let the people of the town fend for themselves until he sees the baby food, and now it's become something important for them to do. Then of course, the Wolves who Morgan let go and have a gun, almost kill Rick and put him in a situation where he has a useless vehicle about to be surrounded by walkers.

Two weeks until we find out if he's dead or alive. Such a clever way to keep people watching and talking.

According to The Spoil Dead Fans there was filming today and Glenn was spotted, they tried hiding him behind an entourage, or human shield. There aren't any pics just yet but we'll see.

Secondly, seeing him miraculously survive against the odds will lure viewers into a false sense of security…”he survived THIS, so surely he will be okay for a long time”, which would [BLACKOUT]make his encounter with Negan all the more horrific. [/BLACKOUT]

This is what i usually refer to as the Flowers for Algernon effect. Show the audience something inherently sad, then give them heart-warming and beautifully sweet relief, and then take it back with a heart-wrenching vengeance.

I find it to be the most deliciously emotionally responsive story-telling technique.

I don't know why but I love this post LMAO.

I call it manipulative and poorly executed.

That's why it's a widely debated tactic. It has everyone talking about it and not the merits of the fake out itself.

the thing is there was no fake out. they show him squirming towards the dumpster. reason their is a debate is because no one took the time to watch and just jumped to the conclusion that he was a goner.

great work by TWD. no cheap tricks just great directing.

I don't think Glenn is dead, I think they just ate the other guy and didn't see him (It's a little dumb but I think that's the writers choose to do.)

They got a lot of buzz over it which was the point, lol.

The Talking Dead ep stated that the producers said Glen would return 'in some form'; so it may be in flashbacks, or as a walker, etc.....

Also, there was a lot of gun fire heard coming from Alexandria; i don't remember that much gun fire during the previous ep. Did the Wolves return to Alexandria after their initial attack?

So the deliberate camera angle to imply he was being eaten alive, the subsequent comments by Scott Gimple, the guy running the show implying he may be dead but may not be dead aren't a fake out?

[BLACKOUT]"So I'll say this: In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again"[/BLACKOUT]

Is clearly not a way to elusively state his future is uncertain. Yeah, don't call it a fake out, we all know it's a fake out but since it is so clear they obsfuscate it instead.

we are talking about the episode not the talking dead.

the scene shows Glenn trying to get away from underneath nicholas. most of us including myself were too caught up in the scene before that we didnt catch it.

not their fault we didnt catch it until now.

i guess it all depends on one's definition of a "fake out"

If he is alive, you can replace the magical negro trope with the magical asian. That ***** got some powers.

Great episode all around. I loved Michonne and Heath's heated exchange in the pet store. I don't think Glenn is gone. It looked like total misdirection and it was Nicholas who the walkers were chowing down because his corpse was on top of Glenn's.

Though even then he's in a hell of a tight spot. He's trapped and completely surrounded. How are the walkers not going to eat him, unless he starts to stink of Nicholas's dead corpse blood and gore all over him, and pull the trick he and Rick pulled in season 1 and just walk right through the walkers covered in dead gore.

They're obviously not outright going to say that he's alive, so yeah, they play the mystery card, it's just brilliant, a brilliant cliffhanger even though it came 10 min before the episode ended, and we're going to have to wait to see how he makes it, awesome !

This episode happened during the Wolves' attack on Alexandria, so they didn't turn back. I think the only survivors were the group that Morgan let escape and attacked Rick in the RV.

Can someone care to explain what happened to Nicholas? And what led him to say "Thank You" to Glenn moments before [BLACKOUT]shooting himself[/BLACKOUT]

Also, anyone else think that they could've made out of that dead end by jumping onto that fence on the side of them? Getting on top of the dumpster gave them plenty of height to make the jump.

I think ole Nicholas was having a psychotic break, and **** was getting way too real. I think he was thanking Glenn for forgiving him for killing Noah and attempting to kill Glenn. Also, allowing him to attempt to redeem himself as he failed miserably leading them to around town and away from the herd.

As was mentioned, somewhere I can't remember, Michonne's little speech about not knowing who's blood is on you, yours, walker or your friend. They shot up a lot of walkers while on that dumpster he could grab some guts and slather up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
