The Weinsteins....anyone else hate these %$^#!?

I think Matt Damon once said that Harvey Weinstein is a scorpion.

I guess one can argue they've done some good and bad.

No I'm not "such a fan", yeah they have done stuff I don't like but they have also done alot of stuff I do like and the yarent any worse then other producers in hollywood. You want someone to REALLY hate.....Jon Peters.

You want someone to REALLY hate.....Jon Peters.

Peters seems more passively stupid and inept while the Weinsteins seem actively aggressive and ego maniacal. Plenty of hate for both. :cwink:

LMAO look I think producers are just stupid (well 99% of them) but theres different levels to the stupid.

Kinda like how all girls are crazy but theres different levels to the crazy, from "huh..thats a bit odd" right up to "Margot Kidder nuts"

Forest Whitaker laments the Weinsteins handling of one of his latest films, Hurricane Season.:o

From Los Angeles Times:

Forest Whitaker on the Weinsteins dumping his movie: 'It's a travesty'

Lil' Wayne may be the hottest rapper in the business and Forest Whitaker may be an Oscar-winner for "The Last King of Scotland," but that didn't stop the not-so-deep pocketed Weinstein Co. from dumping the duo's film, "Hurricane Season," which showed up earlier this month in the direct-to-video bins.

You'd think with all the money the Weinsteins are spending on full-page ads trying to win an Oscar for Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" that they'd have a little extra dough stashed away to actually promote a new film, especially one that recounts the inspirational story of a New Orleans high school basketball coach whose team of cast-off kids wins the state championship.

You can't say the film, directed by "Fantastic Four" filmmaker Tim Story, doesn't have enough star power. In addition to Whitaker, who plays the coach, the picture features Wayne, Isaiah Washington, Taraji P. Henson, Bow Wow and Michael Gaston. The Weinsteins have been claiming that the film didn't test well, but that hasn't soothed Whitaker's hurt feelings. In fact, he's royally peeved that the Weinsteins promised him a theatrical release and then -- prepare to be shocked -- went back on their word.

According to this post from the Playlist, Whitaker, who's now at work on a biopic about Louis Armstrong, minced few words. "I think that was a travesty," he said of the video dump. "... It's not just about me, the fact that they didn't do what they said they were going to do is amazing to me. I think that is the modus operandi. But a lot of people are telling me they saw the video on DVD and really responded to it and don't understand why it wasn't released and I say, 'You'll have to talk to the Weinsteins [about that], I can't help you.' "

This is hardly the only Weinstein project that, thanks to the company's financial woes, has ended up going straight to video. But it's a movie that deserved better, especially from Harvey Weinstein, who used to be the guy filmmakers went to with their passion projects, not the guy who was strapped so thin that he couldn't deliver the goods.

Maybe it's just me but i think there's something really wrong when Bow Wow and Lil Wayne can get ahead of Taraji P. Henson in billing.

LOL, you can throw this at me and then go on to mention Kevin Smith movies?? I dig the guy, but he's hardly a smoking gun in your argument.

Let's look at some of the more notorious examples of the Weinsteins' and their abuse of power.

Iron Monkey:
In its release in 2001, Miramax made several changes that the company felt would make it more marketable to American audiences. Since most Americans are unfamiliar with the story of Wong Fei Hung, his name was removed from the title. The subtitles were tailored to remove the political context of the story. Some scenes were trimmed to tone down the violence. Also, a new soundtrack was composed that emulated the classical score to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but in doing so the famous Wong Fei Hung theme was eliminated.

The Protector:
The Weinstein Company purchased the US distribution rights for Tom-Yum-Goong and retitled it The Protector (also the name of a 1985 Jackie Chan film). For the US theatrical cut, the film's length was reduced by at least 25 minutes, going so far as to trim down some of the fight scenes, even though it was given an "R" rating restricting audiences to people aged 17 and over. Out of all cuts outside of Thailand, it is the shortest cut of the film, even more so than the European cuts. It also features a new score by RZA. Some parts of the missing footage (including cuts to the "bone breaker" fight and Madame Rose envisioning herself in a red dress as queen) appeared in the US trailer and US TV Spots.

Mimic:
Director 'Guillermo Del Toro' disowned the film after constant clashes with Bob Weinstein, who would frequently visit the set and make unreasonable demands about what should be shot, deviating away from the script. Since then Del Toro has never worked with the Weinsteins.

Princess Mononoke:
On hearing that Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein would try to cut animator Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke to make it more marketable, one of Studio Ghibli's producers sent an authentic katana with a simple message: "No cuts".

But as long as Kevin Smith can make gems like Dogma we shouldn't worry about anything else.
Don't forget the butchering of Richard Stanley's Dust Devil, going so far as to remove all of the supernatural themes from the movie and trim it down from 2 hours to 72 minutes without the consult of Stanley. Their reason for this hack job? To cash in on the success of Silence of the Lambs.

1. Mimic still sucked.

2. I'm not a fan of the Asian films that were butchered.

3. I don't care that Chris Lee couldn't be able to be a part of The Crow movie, the movie would be have been good regardless.

4. I don't care about a butchered sports movie that Forest made or whatever.

5. Kill Bill 2 was good enough,Kill Bill 1 however should have been better I suppose.

6. From a business standpoint, they( The Weinsteins) shouldn't have caused all the trouble that they did.

I think that the Weinsteins are at the point where the only directors who'll work with them are ones who got their big break from their generosity. Like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.

There was a lot of bad blood between Wes Craven and the Weinsteins after Cursed came out. Craven said that if he worked with the Weinsteins again for Scream 4, that they'd have to pay him well and let him do his own movie. And so yesterday, Scream 4 was announced with both Bob and Wes making joint statements about being 'honored to continue the franchise' and 'delighted to accept Bob Weinstein's offer[...]".

ummm the weinsteins have done nothiiiiingg wrong with tarantino...

they were the only ones with balls to release a movie like grindhouse... and when it bombed at the box office they had no choice but to split them up.

Kill Bill was better being split into two movies imo... i read the script for the version where it was one film and it wasnt as good.

they're also the only ones to give tarantino 100% freedom to do whatever he wants...

as far as other movies go idk

Outlander, Killshot and Fanboys were all laying on the shelf for a long time before they got very limited theatrical releases or went straight to dvd.
To be fear. That Forrest movie looks horribly cliched.

Haven't seen a trailer since their isn't one available. At least not an official one.:o

Even if it does look cliched would it hurt for them to put some effort in to promoting the films they invested money in?

This is film's official website: http://www.hurricaneseason-movie.com/

That's so typical.
