The Star Tropics Games Are Now On The Wii U Virtual Console In North America. May 26, 2016 . 9:00am

Nintendo Wii U owners in North America can send Mike to pick up his yo-yo and do what he does best in Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II.

People have easy access to the Star Tropics series in North America again. Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II have both been added to the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console in North America. (They’re already immediately available in Europe and Australia.)

Both Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II are unique in that Nintendo created and released them only in western locals. They were created for North America and Europe, not Japan, with the sequel only originally appearing in North America and being the last game Nintendo developed only for the original NES.

Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II both star Mike, a young man who goes to visit Dr. Steven Jones, his archaeologist uncle. In the original game, he sets out in search of his kidnapped uncle, learning more about each location, then heading off to stop some sort of problem and fight enemies with weapons like a yo-yo. In the sequel, Princess Mica, a woman Mike rescued in the first game, asks for his help. He ends up traveling through time to different locations, saving more people and collecting Tetrads and getting closer to defeating Zoda.

The Nintendo Wii U versions of Star Tropics and Zoda’s Revenge: Star Tropics II are available for $4.99 each.

XSEED Games to publish Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity, and Exile’s End

Published 6 hours ago. 83 comments.
All three new indie titles playable at E3 2016.

XSEED Games has announced a trio of independent games it will publish in the North American market in the coming months.

The new titles include physical and digital edition of WayForward Technologies’ crowdfunded Shantae: Half-Genie Hero for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and Wii U, Touhou Project fan series game Scarlet Curiosity for PlayStation 4, and Exile’s End from Magnetic Realms and Marvelous for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and Wii U. All three titles will be playable at E3 from June 14 to 16.

Get the full lineup below.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (PS4, PS Vita, Wii U)

Due out digitally and physically this fall

In the magical world of Sequin Land lives Shantae, a spirited young half-genie. She has dedicated her life to defending her home of Scuttle Town from evil in all forms, and has been called upon again as pirates attack! Using her trademark Hair-Whip Attack and special ability to transform herself into various kinds of creatures by way of magical belly-dancing, she must fight her way through steamy jungles, ancient ruins, and stormy deserts to topple the villainous Barons behind each criminal caper, preparing for the ultimate showdown against her arch-nemesis: the bodacious buccaneer Risky Boots!

After three successful outings, Shantae is ready to embark on her first full HD adventure in Shantae: Half-Genie Hero for PS4TM, “PSVita”, and Wii U. Vibrant, high-definition sprites complement the excellent action-packed exploration and platforming the series is known for. As Shantae masters her transformative powers, old stages can be explored again to unearth new items and secrets, ensuring there’s plenty of content for casual players and platforming gurus alike!
XSEED Games will be publishing Shantae: Half-Genie Hero physically on all three announced platforms this fall, as a special “Risky Beats” retail release packaged with a musical selections CD containing over 20 songs from the game’s soundtrack, and each offered at a suggested retail price of $29.99.

Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity (PS4)

Due out digitally this fall

Immortality can be boring. At 500 years old, the so-called “Scarlet Devil,” Remilia Scarlet, is desperately searching for something new to end the monotony. After stumbling upon a newspaper article about a powerful, mysterious monster terrorizing the countryside, she rushes out to see if this could finally be the excitement for which she yearns. Unfortunately, not only is she unsuccessful in her search for the monster, but she returns to find her manor in ruins. It would seem the monster has come to her! With a renewed sense of determination (and a much-needed respite from her boredom), she vows to take revenge on this fiend and make it pay!

Set in the ever-evolving Touhou Project universe, the fan-created Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity trades in the series’ top-down “bullet hell” roots for an action RPG approach, drawing inspiration from series such as Ys while still retaining a distinctly indie feel . Players take the role of the titular vampire, Remilia Scarlet, or her devoted maid, Sakuya Izayoi, as they explore a wide variety of environments and battle aggressive creatures. Fast-paced combat and the series’ trademark complex patterns and waves of projectiles will keep players on their toes as they fight to retake Scarlet’s manor!

XSEED Games will be publishing Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity digitally on the PlayStation Store for PS4 later this fall. More information will be provided in the coming months.

Exile’s End (PS4, PS Vita, Wii U)
Due out digitally this summer

In the distant future, mega-corporation Ravenwood exists more as an interplanetary government than a company, controlling commerce and manipulating the economy with its own private army. So when its president’s son goes missing on a remote mining planet and all contact is lost, the company quickly dispatches a team of mercenaries to investigate. Immediately upon their arrival in orbit, however, the team’s ship experiences an electrical failure and careens toward the surface. Numerous soldiers eject from the crashing ship via escape pods, but only one seems to make landfall relatively unscathed: an old, embittered private named Jameson. In his efforts to restore communications on the planet, he ends up discovering the remains of the mining colony and learns a truth far more sinister than he ever could have imagined…
A dark and futuristic 2D sidescroller offering adventure-style puzzles, exploration-driven platforming, and dangerous extraterrestrials, Exile’s End is part Metroidvania and part “cinematic platformer,” drawing heavy inspiration from classics of the genre like Out of This World and Flashback: The Quest for Identity. Boasting uniquely stylized animated cutscenes, multiple endings, and an atmospheric soundtrack by Keiji Yamagishi of Ninja Gaiden and Tecmo Super Bowl fame, players who take up Jameson’s mantle will find themselves investigating a massive, interconnected alien world as they solve the mysteries of a dark, underground complex and experience a story filled with ancient riddles and modern-day hubris. Backed by Japanese publisher Marvelous Inc., Exile’s End is a collaboration between Tokyo-based indie game developer Matt Fielding and many talented local industry veterans, and a partial remake of Fielding’s first game, Inescapable, that significantly expands on its general ideas and themes.
XSEED Games will be publishing Exile’s End digitally on the PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS Vita, as well as on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U later this summer. More information will be provided in the coming months.

Looks like they will be cutting Devil's Third online play at the end of the year.

And the 15 players will be sad.

My local Wal-Mart broke the street date on Tokyo Mirage Sessions. They had three or four copies out to buy. I'm torn on that game. Knowing it's one of maybe four Wii U games coming this year makes me want it, but I just don't really like JRPG's enough to invest my time into it.

Looks like a pure JRPG from what I can tell, so I wouldn't bother with it if you're not into the genre at all.

EP Daily Rundown for June 30, 2016
It's the Thursday before a long weekend, but before you check out, sit back and enjoy an all-new edition of The Rundown. Today, we have the latest rumours about Left 4 Dead 3, get Lost in Space with Netflix, have the first official look at the BioShock collection, have some cool yet troubling info from Apple, and finally, find out what classic Mario game you can re-play over the weekend.
It looks like game maker Valve knows how to count to three after all. The studio might be in the middle of developing Left 4 Dead 3, the long-rumoured new entry in their zombie multiplayer series. A Valve employee recently released a tutorial for their latest VR development software, and it included screenshots of his desktop that showed a folder called ‘Left4Dead3′. This could just be Valve’s way of trolling fans, although the post has since been edited to remove the folder, so it might be legit. Valve fans have been desperate for a third Left 4 Dead game, along with a third Portal and Half-Life instalment, leading many to joke that Valve doesn’t know how to count to three. The studio is notoriously secretive and there have already been loads of rumours about their upcoming projects, so until official announcements are made, it’s wise not to get your hopes up. We do know that Valve currently has a third of its staff working on new VR technology for the HTC Vive. A new Left 4 Dead or Half-Life game would be perfect for VR. Just saying.
Danger! Danger! Netflix subscribers are about to be lost in space. The online streaming juggernaut has greenlit a remake of the classic science fiction series Lost in Space. The original series ran for three season in the mid-60s, and focused on the futuristic adventures of the Robinson family, who are stranded in the outer reaches of the galaxy after their spaceship malfunctions. Because it’s from the 60s, the show had a lot of camp, and Netflix says they want to recapture the same sense of adventure and family drama. Their new series is being run by Prison Break producer Zack Estrin, and will consist of a 10-episode first season when it hits Earth in 2018. This is just the latest in a long line of original programming created by Netflix, and it won’t be the first new take on Lost in Space, either. The show was adapted into a big screen movie in the late 90s, which was actually pretty fun.
Gamers can head back under the sea, or above the clouds, with a less-than-shocking new collection. 2K Games has officially revealed the worst kept secret in gaming, the long-rumoured BioShock Collection. Details of the set have already appeared online many times over the last few months, so it seems 2K has more leaks than the underwater city of Rapture. As expected, the collection will feature all three BioShock games remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One. They’ll look and sound better than ever, and include all the single-player DLC. One thing is missing though; the online multiplayer for BioShock 2 will not be included in the collection, making this a much more solitary experience. 2K is also updating the first two games for a PC version of the collection, although the third game, BioShock Infinite, will not be included because it already meets the current-gen PC standards. The BioShock Collection arrives September 13.
It looks like Apple doesn’t want you to use the iPhone camera in certain situations. A patent filed by Apple in 2009 has just surfaced online, showing that the company has the technology to automatically lock the iPhone’s camera when it enters a certain location or area. This could be used by movie theatres and concert venues to prevent people from illegally taking photos and videos, although, as with all technology, there’s also a downside. The same system could potentially be used by oppressive governments to prevent citizens from recording videos, which would make it easier to stifle dissent, especially in the age of social media. Since Apple filed the patent back in 2009 and still hasn’t done anything with it, there’s a chance the technology will never let see the light of day. We’ll just have to wait and see what they do.

We didn’t get a new Mario game at E3, but now we can relive one of the best games in the franchise. The classic Super Nintendo game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is now available on the Wii U virtual console in North America. Many have long been hoping that the game would find its way to the Wii U, so this is sure to make Nintendo fans happy. First released in 1996, Super Mario RPG is a collaboration between Nintendo and Final Fantasy developer Square, now known as Square Enix. It combines turn-based Final Fantasy-style RPG gameplay with Mario-style action, and was notable for including 3D graphics on the Super Nintendo. A pair of direct sequels were released, and it also helped spawn other Mario RPG franchises like Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto recently confirmed to IGN that, although they didn’t show off a new Mario game at E3 this year, they do have one coming down the pipe. Miyamoto hopes it will be out in the next year or two.

Hey Miiverse,

Playing games this summer? Camp Miiverse is coming back on July 14th! This week-long event will feature events based on popular Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games. And with every camp competition, we'll play choosing a side in a team - so choose wisely.

And new for this year, we want you to help shape our camp!

We will be featuring popular games like Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, but let us know if you have any great ideas on what teams should play against each other, and what game you would like to see featured and the challenge.
If you let us know your thoughts in the comments below, you might see your idea being used in this summer’s Camp Miiverse! Here are the questions:

1.) What team theme would work for this year? (like Team Mario vs. Team Link)
2.) What Wii U game, and its challenge do you think will be fun? (example: finish 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. with your fastest time)
3.) What Nintendo 3DS game and challenge do you think would be fun?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Anyone with a Miiverse access will be able to join the camp beginning July 14th. All you have to do is access the Camp Miiverse community and participate in the challenges during camping season. Happy camping!

Hoping the NX is backwards compatible, but that seems like an impossibility, given the Game Pad. Ended up skipping the Wii U in favor of the 3DS because it only seemed like a few titles like Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Ninja Gaiden, and Xenoblade, looked appealing, but not enough. Hopefully the NX has a stronger showing when it launches and that Nintendo has some titles to announce at next year's E3.

There has been a few rumors of NX versions of some of the Wii U's greatest hits to sort of pad out the NX's games.

I will say this, the Wii U's library may not be that large, but there is such a high quality to the content, that the Wii U has been worth every penny I've spent.

686 viewsEP Daily Rundown for August 9, 2016
Today in the Rundown, we find out when you'll get to see the new season of Star Wars Rebels, have some sweet new deals from Nintendo, get the latest from the small screen DC universe, get a new look at Marvel's Luke Cage, examine the new Resident Evil movie and game, and finally, take a look at a cool new science fiction movie from the director of Prisoners and Sicario.

The rebellion against the Galactic Empire is getting a lot more intense next month. The third season of the hit animated series Star Wars Rebels will premiere with a special one-hour episode on Saturday, September 24. First unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration earlier this summer, the new season will see Ezra and Sabine take on new and more influential roles within the Rebel Alliance, upping their stand against the Empire. They’re about to encounter their biggest challenge yet though, because the new season will introduce the powerful and ruthless villain Grand Admiral Thrawn. He’s been a staple of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, appearing in countless novels, comics, and video games, and he’s easily the most popular Star Wars character outside of the movies and shows. The fact that he’s appearing in the new season of Rebels is big news for Star Wars fans because it means that he’s now part of the official Star Wars canon, so he can appear in other shows and movies down the line. Expect him to make a cunning adversary for the characters on the show when the new season begins.

It looks like Nintendo wants to get rid of some of their older products before the NX comes out. Nintendo has announced a slate of new bundles and for the 3DS and Wii U. The biggest is a Mario-themed version of the regular-sized New 3DS,which comes with the game Super Mario 3D Land for the price of $199 CDN, which is $4
0 less expensive than previous bundles. That launches August 19. On September 9, Nintendo is also releasing five new bundles for the Wii U, which will package games like Yoshi’s Woolly World, Mario Party 10, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker with their compatible amiibo figures for the discounted price of $50 CDN. Finally, Nintendo is cutting the price of several 3DS and Wii U games by themselves, including Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Zelda: Wind Waker HD. The price cuts and bundles are clearly a move on Nintendo’s part to sell off old games and systems before the NX arrives early next year. The new system is rumoured to be a hybrid console and mobile platform, and we should be getting an official unveiling very soon.

Hollywood might be taking another stab at some of the members of the Suicide Squad. Following the release of the critically-panned yet financially-successful Suicide Squad film, two of the iconic DC villains depicted in the movie might be coming to the Batman prequel TV series Gotham. Speaking with reporters at a recent press event, the show’s executive producer John Stephens revealed that future episodes will introduce early versions of two characters: Killer Croc and Harley Quinn. They may not be exactly what fans are expecting though. Stephens adds that these will be proto-versions of the two characters that could turn into their more familiar versions in the future, kind of like what the show is already doing with The Joker. Whatever they end up doing with Harley Quinn or Killer Croc, hopefully it’s better than what we got out of Suicide Squad. The upcoming third season of Gotham will premiere on September 19.
That’s not the only small screen DC news. Over on The CW, it looks like all four of the network’s DC shows will be getting a long-rumoured crossover episode. Arrow star Stephen Amell has released a set photo featuring him with what appears to be Grant Gustin and The Flash and Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, along with Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz as White Canary and Brandon Routh as Atom. If a crossover episode for all four shows is already filming, it likely means that we’ll be getting it early in the next season, probably before the end of the year. Although some of these characters have already appeared together, a crossover episode featuring all of them hasn’t happened until now. The new seasons of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow will all premiere in the first week of October.
And DC’s arch-nemesis Marvel wants to make their small screen presence a lot stronger with their next project. Here’s the first full-length trailer for Luke Cage, the latest series from Marvel and Netflix. Like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, this one looks pretty bad ass, with Spartan Locke himself Mike Colter reprising his role as the super strong, bulletproof vigilante. Let’s take a look.
Can’t wait to binge watch that one. The entire first season of Luke Cage will be available to stream on Netflix starting September 30. Marvel and Netflix are already working on their next show Iron Fist, coming early next year, along with the crossover series The Defenders, which will unite all four of their Hell’s Kitchen vigilantes. They’re also developing a Punisher spin-off series, along with new seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones. It’s a great time to be a Marvel fan.
The big screen Resident Evil series about to come to an end. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which as the title suggests, will be the sixth and final entry in the series based on the zombies games. We should say that the films are loosely based on the games, because they’ve been going in their own direction pretty much since the start. This one will see Alice, played by Milla Jovovich, return to where it all began, Raccoon City, in a bid to finally destroy the Umbrella Corporation once and for all. Why the Umbrella Corp is still trying to make zombies after the entire world has already been destroyed is kind of confusing, but whatever, just go with it. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hits theatres in January.
That’s not the only Resident Evil coming in January. The all-new game Resident Evil 7 will hit the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on January 24, with full support for the PlayStation VR headset. This one is played entirely in a first-person perspective, and will have a stronger emphasis on survival and evasion, with fewer weapons and combat than some of the more recent games in the series. Looks terrifying. Capcom has more zombies coming our way. They’ve announced that the new Dead Rising Triple Pack will hit the PS4 and Xbox One on September 13. It features new remastered versions of Dead Rising 1 and 2, along with the second game’s DLC expansion off the record. This will be the first time Dead Rising 1 will be released on a Sony platform, so better late than never. PlayStation fans are out of luck when it comes to the next game though. The all-new Dead Rising 4 will launch exclusively on the Xbox One and PC this December.

Okay, one more trailer. Before we go, take a look at the first teaser for the new sci-fi thriller Arrival. It’s directed by Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, and sees Amy Adams play a linguistic expert brought to make first contact with a mysterious alien ship that has landed on Earth. It’s visual style harkens back to the moody sci-fi movies of the 1970s, and given Villeneuve’s previous films like Sicario and Prisoners, we couldn’t be more excited. Arrival will arrive in theatres this November. Villeneuve will next helm the Blade Runner sequel with Harrison Ford, which arrives late next year.
