I agree too. I find Wolf of Wall Street the better movie, and to me it comes down to the directing, and to an extent, the writing. I really liked American Hustle for the most part, but I there are times where the plot (mostly the ABScam stuff) wears down the movie to the point of confusions and the characters explaining every last detail of what they do becomes distracting and takes you out of it at times (mostly because this is a character driven movie that tries to be plot driven at times), but not enough for me to dislike the movie. I understand why critics and people like American Hustle more, mostly because it's more character driven than Wolf of Wall Street.

I love the parts in Wolf of Wall Street where Jordan starts to go into detail about how the Stock Market works, only to stop himself and say that we wouldn't understand or care. Right when he did that I told my friend "Why couldn't American Hustle do the same thing?"

I thought the same ****ing thing. When he started I was like, "****, I'm gonna have to pay attention now because this is gonna have a significant part of the plot and American Hustle pulled this same ****." But nope. In the hands of another writer or director, there could have been this long winded explanation. But that's part of the genius of this film.

Taxi Driver 10/10
The King of Comedy 9.5/ 10
The Wolf of Wall Street 9.5/10
Mean Streets 9/10
The Departed 9/10
Hugo 8.5/10
Shutter Island 8.5/10
The Last Temptation of Christ 8/10
Casino 8/10
The Aviator 8/10
Cape Fear 7/10
Gangs of New York 7/10

I've not watched After Hours and Bringing Out the Dead.

TWOWS is the best of 2013 for me, my favorite movie of the new decade (The Master is No. 2), but it might change after i watch 12 years a Slave later.

Bringing Out the Dead is prime Nic Cage, basically everything there is to like about him with few of the drawbacks, and as far as presentations of New York City go, I think it is oddly distinct in a way that doesn't get talked about enough.

There are an odd amount of digital compositions and special effects in Wolf of Wall street

That kind of work is overlooked because it is so well done. Meanwhile I'm starting to suspect Peter Jackson just kind of likes the way horrible greenscreen looks.

Note: 7/10 means you actually liked the movie. Just sayin'....

Of course man, this movie is good. I just deem it overrated, but at the same time i'd love for Dicaprio to finally get his Oscar after all these years.

lighting. the greenscreen in the backround is just an object that gets erased. what you are left is the actors and set. and if the lighting is fake the whole shot will look fake.

i know that you knew. but i had to writte it. :woot:

the italy scenes looked obvious greenscreen to me.

I would have never guessed that special effects were used in that scene. I genuinely thought it was Italy haha

Man, saw this last night, not much to say that hasn't been said but what a (animalistic, raunchy, wild) ride it was. 3 hours breeze by like nothing and yet I felt exhausted when it's time to leave the theater. Leo's never been more magnetic, showing great comic timing than he is here, he cranked it up to 11 and kept it there 'till the end. This together with The Aviator might perhaps be the best DiCaprio/Scorsese collaboration for me.

Saw it last night too, damn what a riot this movie was! Unexpectedly hilarious (wasn't expecting it to be as funny as it was) and so much revelry that it was just awesome. Damn this movie was just off-the-charts when it came to sex, drugs, & money, and it was amazing. Loved the comedic aspect of it, just so many one-liners and crazy scenes (the cerebral palsy one comes to mind). I too thought 3 hours sounded too long but it just flew by.

I've never been that much a fan of DiCaprio - I think he's a good actor, just not great and am admittedly getting sort of mystified by all the award noms that he's been getting recently, when it seems like that most of his movie characters since 2000 have been larger-than-life off-the-wall types, or variations on them. His characters from Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, Revolutionary Road, J. Edgar, and TWOWS are all ambitious & driven (especially towards money and/or status), selfish/self-centered, womanizing, and mentally unhinged (if not outright crazy, like in Shutter Island).

Not saying DiCaprio wasn't good, I really enjoyed his part & character, but it just seems like he hasn't varied his characters that much recently and it sort of comes across that he's not stretching that far from his real-life persona to play them. Definitely got that impression from TWOWS the most.

She learns the Rangers lose

David Ehrlich of Film.com, a Rangers fan, took his opportunity interviewing Robbie to quiz her on her Rangers fandom:

How did you become a Rangers fan?

“Well I always wanted to play ice hockey back in Australia, I’m not sure why, but we didn’t have any ice where I lived. It was very hot, a coastal town. So I played field hockey, but then when I moved to America I was finally able to join a team once I wasn’t contracted to a show, but when I was contracted to a show I wasn’t able to play. But I was living in New York, so I was able to watch, and the Rangers were my default team. [short pause]

“And not just by default, but also because they’re the best team ever. And I just became absolutely dedicated and loyal to them immediately, and have been ever since.

“Are there any particular Rangers to whom you’ve become attached? … Lundqvist. He’s just, I mean…”

He’s a beautiful man. I don’t mean for that to sound patronizing, it’s just true.

“I love him so much. He’s so brilliant. And I really love Ryan Callahan, and I really love Brian Boyle, they’re two of my favorites as well.

Does she think they can make the playoffs?

“[Very serious] I always have faith that we’re going to make the playoffs. It’s been a really tough year for us, and I think that we’ve needed that extra pressure. I think that it’s going to motivate us to do better, I think that we perform well under pressure.”

Sounds like a keeper

I think the acclaim is warranted by this point.

time to open a new thread about her new movie with Will Smith. haha

I bet you a ton of fanboys would like to see a Blue Is The Warmest color American remake starring Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence. :wow:

That movie would break all kinds of box office records. :funny:
