The Wolverine The Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition Blu-Ray: December 3

Actually recording a commentary track wouldn't take a long time. Maybe 3 to 5 hours inside a recording booth, with a feew breaks since I don't think they could finish their commentary for the whole movie in 1 sitting.

I just don't think the home video department of FOX has put a lot of effort with the bonus features of the recent X-Men movies.

I'm trying to figure out who would have been beating him up in that scene. If it was the Yakuza, wouldn't they have gone after Mariko if they'd managed to beat up Logan? Maybe they were just some random thugs? It was the seedy part of town, after all.

I agree, it doesn't sound like something that was vital to the story. But now I'm just curious to see what the hell else was going on in that scene.

I'm guessing it was just random thugs looking to rob him, which means he must have fought them off I guess, as I didn't see Mariko fighting.

Yeah, I'd definitely include it as a deleted scene.

Agreed. I'm eager to see an extended cut but am curious about this scene. I would hope this new cut only adds the stuff Mangold wanted but couldn't for ratings' sake. Many deleted scenes are deleted for a reason.

Not been this excited for a home release in a long time.

I think the key thing to be added back in from what Mangold has said is thew fight between Wolverine and the Ninja in the snowy village, and I can't wait to see it.

Sometimes the studio is just too cheap to spring for a commentary.

I'm looking at you, The Fountain. :BA

So where does it say the extended cut is 13 extra minutes? I remember him saying 20-25 extra minutes.

Definitely the Yakuza but I feel like this part was another nightmare. He's suffering from all these injuries that he isn't used to so he envisions the Yakuza coming to finish him off.

I cant remember if it was an interview with Mangold he said it or if it was one of his twitter posts.

Interesting... I would have liked the straight up original 2h30 minute long cut but anything is good. That rain scene was actually one I was most curious about in the trailers..it would be nice to see it. If its 2 minutes long, thats still 10 mins of other stuff. Its amazing how much happens in movies in a short.amount of time. You think its been an hour when its really like 20 minutes...

Yeah just an extra 12 minutes would be a lot of time in movie terms. Some fights that feel epic can actually only be 2 minutes in actual time.

When VHS was new, we had to wait a year.
I own Spider-Man and X-Men on VHS, they were still releasing both at the start of the century. I still use a VCR in one room. If I can't stay old school who will?

I expect James, but not sure about Hugh? Has he done commentary before?

The X films have always disappointed me with the lack of cast commentary but I realise getting so many big stars together for just a two hour session in a booth can be difficult. And rather nothing than the horrific splicing commentary fad.

I love commentary on Marvel films. I actually throw on a lot of Marvel films, put the commentary track on and fall asleep listening to it. Since I know the films, it's perfect to close the eyes and drift off listening to that. Branagh on Thor and Gavin Hood on Origins are the most soothing!

The X films have been a mixed commentary bag. Singer did a great job but the X3 track is like frat-boy night. A lot of giggling and not many insightful comments. It figures with Ratner and Co. There was no track for First Class at least on regular DVD.

It appears the extended cut is finished. :awesome:

Apparently it's 12 minutes longer, bloodier, and has a new music que Marco Beltrami wrote for "an excised sequence" (which I'm guessing is the ninja fight).

This great news gives me hope that it will be released immediately in October/November and not held back with a theatrical cut release first.

I was just thinking that :D. If Mangold's been working on it for these past few weeks, it likely means it'll be released sooner, rather than later.

Also, probably why we've received no news on the Blu-ray release date and specs.

I was thinking the same thing. I've already gotten per-order emails for Elysium and Kick-Ass 2 from Amazon, but nothing yet for The Wolverine. You can pre-order it on their site, but I think that's still just a placeholder.

YES!

seems like the extended cut will be released alongside the theatrical cut. so no having to wait and double dip

Sweet! Extended cut finished AND a new piece of score by Beltrami? Excellent. I was listening to "Where to?" as I read that.

Excellent news, get to be excited for it all over again later in the year when it gets released and it will even be different from that already viewed in the cinema.

Cant wait for that ninja fight in full!!
