The Woman in the Window (Amy Adams)

It’s just... dead. :( The test screenings were bad IIRC so I’m not expecting much.
Very well. And hello again, I’ve been away from the forums for a good while, but I’ll be back again here and there.

Hey you! It’s been a while indeed! :hrt:

Looking forward to it, but I'm also prepared to be disappointed.

It looks like a decent Hitchcock flavoured thriller.

*Scott Rudin expose comes out in THR*

*Scott Rudin screams at executive to release trailer to distract*

*Executive gets panic attack*

Same, considering the third act had to be completely reshot.

Not sure if the twist from the book is what confused test audiences and THAT's what's getting changed but just to be safe, here it is:

Turns out the murder really DID happen and Amy Adams's character Anna is therefore NOT crazy, but it was the neighbor Alistair's (Garry Oldman's character) teenage adopted son Ethan who did it, not Alistair himself. Katie, the murdered woman, was Ethan's biological mother, and he killed her because he was resentful for Alistair abusing him as a child. Alistair DID help cover it up, however to protect the supposed "stand-in" Jane, who really WAS his wife and just HAPPENED to look exactly like Katie (hence the confusion and alleged possible insanity towards Anna). A fight/chase between Anna and Ethan happens and Ethan is killed from Anna pushing him through an old skylight on the roof and Alistair is arrested as an accessory to the earlier murder.

Not sure how much of that is going to be changed or if the movie's ending was originally different from this and was changed to be more like the book, but we'll see in May.

Surprised that Disney let NetfliX had one of their films. I guess the offer was good.

Damn and I was actually really looking forward to this because I thought it atleast looked decent. I'll still check it out, but man what a waste of a great cast.

Yeah i’ll still watch it as someone who liked the book. I feel like you cant go too wrong with Amy.

Woof, this was definitely a stinker. Crazy how this one turned out.

I applaud the restraint to title this Amy Adams is the Woman in the Window.

I must ask: is the third act exactly how I described from the book or was it changed? I know they reshot the entire third act before COVID happened because test audiences thought it was too confusing but I'm not sure if the original book ending was used first or if it wasn't and then it was reshot to be more faithful to it, if you get my drift.

Its the same. Wikipedia says:

Anna finds a picture she had taken of the "Jane" she met and shows it to Ethan. He breaks down and tells her the truth: Jane and Alistair are his adoptive parents, and Katie, the woman Anna assumed was Jane, is his biological mother. Katie tracked the family down in order to see her son again, but her frequent unwanted visits led to an altercation with Jane, which resulted in Katie being stabbed. Alistair and Jane hid the body and lied to the police.

Anna urges Ethan to talk to the police, but he convinces her that he will talk his parents into turning themselves in. Ethan later sends a text confirming he and his parents are going to the police. That night, Anna realizes that Ethan mentioned something that he couldn't have known. She is startled by Ethan in her room, where he confesses that he has psychopathic tendencies, that he has been sneaking into her home at night to watch her, and that he has stalked other women as well. He reveals that he was the one who killed Katie because of his resentment about the abuse and neglect he faced as a child under her care, and that his father knew, but kept it a secret to protect Jane.

Realizing that he intends to kill her too, Anna flees. He pursues her to the roof where she pushes him through an old skylight to his death. Alistair is arrested as an accessory to Katie's murder, and Anna slowly starts her life over again.

I thought Amy Adams was great in this and I mostly enjoyed it, but damn does it go off the rails at the end and so much of this cast felt wasted IMO.

Then what the hell was the ORIGINAL version that was shot? Or is it another New Mutants situation where the reshots just never happened and this is it?
