I think that had to do more with the fans being solidly behind Bryan and refusing not to be, and significantly less with Punk at home sitting on his ass.
Not saying the fans weren't a part, but it's obvious (and been reported several times) that they had to scramble to change plans in the wake of Punk's absence. Punk was going to work with HHH, so with him gone, that gave Bryan the chance to fight him.
MAYBE Bryan would have gotten in the triple threat regardless, but I don't know how anyone could deny Punk leaving increased those odds significantly.
And I don't know how anyone could disparage Punk for leaving considering all the things he's done for our entertainment, and all the crap he's been put through since day 1 in WWE. If you disagree with his choice to leave, okay, but it's far more than just "He quit, screw him."
